Nice job on the repair. The tappet cover on the side of the engine block could be your leak Lot of parts for those Jeeps from numerous military vendors. I always liked Ron Francis Jeep and Midwest military. I had a 52M38A1 which the CJ5 was based off of for many years. Keep plugging away. The old Jeep has come a long way! TGP
stick your finger in the puddle and have a sniff...gear oil smells much different than used motor oil.....even if you used motor oil in your transmission, the un-burned gasoline and products of combustion make the oil from the engine smell much different....also if you used the neoprene rubber seal in your rear main it will leak...the new ones do not fit properly...metalshaper here on you tube does a nice video explaining this....if you ever get around to changing it...use a rope seal.
