Cults are a legitimately terrifying concept, yet I also find it fascinating how easily humans can throw common sense and morality out the window when they’re at their lowest point, and the wrong person manages to latch onto their minds with false love and empty promises.
Like Trump's followers - every step Trump has made is to fleece money while building a fascist power base under the guise of a twisted "Christianity". Why is America such fertile ground for White Nationalist christo-fascism ?
Yeah well I think cults are more about false love and empty promises than anything else.
It's like herd mentality. Cult followers are like herd animal who can't think for themselves so need someone to do all the thinking for them so they can blindly follow their rules without overexerting themselves by "logic or morals".
It's even scarier when the cult leader mixes religion & politics to sell their false messages to the masses.
Children have no sense of "common sense" because they haven't experienced enough life and are not wise enough to avoid these religious creeps. 😢

This is one of the first episodes of L&O SVU I remember seeing as a kid. It still disturbs me to this day.
I remember this episode….so crazy!
This was a great episode because it delved into the psyche of all the team members. They all try to deny being effected, but it's clear how much it has been effecting them. B.D Wong going to everyone to counsel them was the highlight of this episode.
Jeff Kober also played an insane vampire named Zachary Kralic on Buffy.
He also play a religion nutcase in the First Power.

The emotion behind that line
Man the most beautiful irony of this story was that HIS OWN TEACHINGS KILLED HIM. He taught her nobody was greater than god and then got overconfident in his ability to control her and made a crucial mistake… he misspoke and it cost him his life. Such beautiful writing this episode. Cults are extremely real and very scary…

SVU always nails the absolute silence of finding some dead bodies. Detectives don’t say anything, because what is there to say? Feels terrifying real.
I have not seen the full episode but I feel like someone should check if one of the children is still alive. They do not look very dead yet.

It's terrible.
One of the most intense episodes of the entire series. Watching each of the detectives react to the aftermath of the massacre and then their psych interviews is some of the best acting I have ever seen.
And this is one of many problems I have with organized religion. This happens far too often and it's disgusting. I've had church going people approach me and my kids. All I ever say is "stay away from me and my kids"
The idea of God as the Bible describes Him isn't my problem. The notion that humanity is fallen and needs a savior isn't a problem. What is a problem is those same fallen humans use the notion of "faith" to twist the word of God to whatever they want and hide behind their "savior" to justify continuing their sh!tty behavior. Faith is often just taking the "church" at its word, not any notion of God.
Not every person who attends church is a cult leader who is going to hurt your kids. In fact they're the minority and they aren't even Christians at all.
People like this disgust me the most. Using religion as an excuse for theirbown selfish and horrible goals. It goes completely against what is said in the texts of God in those religions like Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, etc.

There’s something called demonic doctrine. Demonic spirits literally use the Word of God to manipulate mankind into creating these cults and religions branching out from the truths of the Bible and twisting them into deceptions to create this situations. The Word of God has power. It can build and destroy whole nations. The Bible talks about that many times. About the power and influence of Satan, about demonic doctrines etc. If we were able to see the spiritual world right now and walk on the crowds of people, we would be able to see millions upon millions of demonic entities influencing humanity into doing horrible things. Cults like this still exist, human trafficking is still a thing, they traffic children to use them for sacrifices, sexual pleasures and slavery.

Just looked up that she was actually 12 when this came out... I can't imagine how you get a 12 year old to play this kind of character without traumatizing them... would think it would have been played by an older teen who can at least understand. Hope she felt safe 🙏💙

I used to drive a cab and lived near a fairly well known cult in Texas. Every week, we took people from the airport out to the compound. These were some VERY determined people, nothing was going to keep them from joining the group. Nothing like this happened to my knowledge but there were rumors of child brides.
That little girl is a TERRIFIC actress! Why have we not seen anything from her since 2013 according to IMDB?! It's super hard to nail those emotions that she pulled out in that standoff scene, even for an adult actor/actress.

Stabler is not in all of the episode because since he is a family man and a bunch of kids were murdered and of the dead girls reminds Stabler of one of his daughters Captain Cragen and Dr. George Huang thought the case would be way too much for him so they ask him to go home and Stabler was really pissed off about it he wanted to stay on the case and Fin went home he had no problem of it because he has a son and the case was too much for him so it was Olivia and John Munch on the case.

I love this show because they do a great job on research and giving the audience a glimpse into the psychological aspects behind behaviors. I grew up in and survived a cult known by th major religion it is based on and I have to say that the portrayal of the psychological manipulation and control of cults is dead accurate. Bravo

This is one of the strongest episodes of the whole series. One of my favorites.

I don’t think it was the detective that convinced her to believe her. “He said he was greater than God but nobody is.” She realized right then that he couldn’t be telling the truth because it went against her beliefs. From what I've seen on shows or movies people who try to play god always end up dying in some big or messed up way
I wish people would stop making God all about themselves. This man is like a lot people trying to elevate and proclaim themselves higher than other people. Manipulating others who are impressionable who are at a low place in their lives and just seeking comfort. This poor little girl her mother should have known better.

It's terrible to watch this video and know, that somewhere out there this could be some childs reality. I'm more thankful than ever that my childhood was save and that my parents are people with common sense who love me.

Just another reason why I distrust ALL ORGANIZED RELIGIONS! Since you're being told and taught what to believe, and often enough its "teachings" have been interpreted differently than originally intended when it was created.
Your personal relationship with God is the most important. Spiritual books like the bible just help to strengthen that and help you to understand God's nature and commandments. A church is supposed to help members be strengthened and help one another. Corrupt leaders misinterpret the scriptures to get gain and will be held accountable in the last days for that.
It may only be a tv show but there are things like this that happen everyday all of the world

rewatching the series years later and im crying from olivias interrogation scene. i have seen this episode before but being older and a mom makes it so much more emotional

Admittedly, one can accurately state that all four weere equally angry, sad, shocked, and mortified at the same time, but when I read their faces, this is what I see.
The most creepy thing about this video are the comments under it... We have the perfect example of how blind faith destroys lives, only for people to comment that they are happy she found her true faith "He said he was greater than God... but nobody is.".
