For anyone curious about Stephanie's Law, here's the story: In 2001, Stephanie Fuller, a resident of Bay Shore, Long Island, who surreptiously videotaped by her landlord, one William Schultz. Without Stephanie's consent or knowledge, Schultz put a small video camera in the smoke-detector that faced her bed. A line led from the camera into Schultz's own apartment, from which he both viewed and recorded the images. His crime was exposed when Stephanie's boyfriend noticed suspicious wires coming out of the smoke-detector. The couple called the police, and Schultz was arrested. Because New York State's "Peeping Tom" laws only covered the use of a camera or other device to "peer" through a window, Schultz was charged and convicted with trespassing instead of "video voyeurism." In other words, had he been convicted of entering Stephanie's apartment and placing a wad of gum (rather than a video camera) on the smoke-detector, his punishment would have been the same: a $1,500 fine, probation for one to three years, and 280 hours of community service. Fuller believed that Schultz got off easy, and campaigned for harsher penalties, and Stephanie's Law was signed into law on 23 June 2003.
I'll be honest, kind of weirdly uplifting to find out the the Law (which I had always assumed the show made up) was passed through Stephanie's efforts and not in her memory.

When I first this episode back then I wondered weather or not if pedophile was really to call her. Why I say this? She was crazy with her husband, sexually assaulted the 12 year old, and sexually assaulted Elliot Stabler. Considering that she would assault just about anyone, kid or adult, is she really a pedophile because she was not assaulting little boys exclusively. I could be wrong though.
They were called in to investigate a hidden camera. It makes sense that they would bring the tech guy along and that he would bring his equipment, at least a bag with some basic stuff.
@@seanwebb605 My husband works in IT. He carries one in his own bag and has another at home. It's a pretty basic piece of equipment for someone who works with electronics to carry.
I hate when they give these bullshit explanations. Like NASA has the means to drastically improve the image quality of a very low quality recording. Anyone who knows anything at all about video and television at the time knows in production terms they simply recorded a good quality image then reduced the quality with filters and compression.
Afterwards though, after she accepted the plea deal, she found out she was pregnant by Shane. When she tried to tell him, she got jumped by Shane’s mom and was arrested for violating her probation for trying to see him.
The sad part of this episode is that this boy doesn't realize he is a victim and this woman needs medical help. Worse they said in the ending that she is pregnant. I am not sure whether she is mentally or she doesn't know which father this baby is. Her husband or the boy? This is really sad. However, this case happens in real life, kids were either groomed or sexually assaulted and they didn't realize they were the victim of known child molesters or rapists.

Sexual assault, can happen to anyone. And heaven forbid that they come forward about it and then get ridiculed or seen as less for it. These victims, they deserve better.
@eiji862 Truth well thought and written. I agree with You.
I love the fact that everyone is focusing on the video dude and not the child grapest 😂, hell even calling him a creep when they explain why he is the way he is.
Explanations don’t make him less of a creep or criminal. He was still filming people without consent

"Gives a whole new meaning to 'live streaming video' ", freaking Munch 😂
SVU always finding a way to make parents freak the F out. Judt when you think you've considered every possible danger 😢😢😢😢
Well, these episodes are usually at least somewhat based on real events.
I'm sorry, did you not consider until 5 days ago that it was possible for someone to assault a child??
I love these episodes of law and order I can watch them all day long.
The hilarious part? The creep himself is the voice of Dr. Rusty Venture on THE VENTURE BROTHERS.
Classic how while watching a scary/disturbing movie, Finn sees what's about to happen and tells the victim to be what not to do... like they can hear him!😕
Safe to say this guy would be Public Enemy... Number One :D
Or PUBIC enemy number one.
One of my favorite episodes. Was really intrigued by how the storyline shifted & shedding a light on adult females molesting children
So James Urbaniak just uses his regular voice for Rusty. Who knew.
This camera thing is a big problem in South Korea. It's so bad that companys (hotels, office building) would hire people to look for hidden cameras to make their staff feel safe.
Imagine being like “I’m disgusting, but I’m not so disgusting to not comment on how disgusting that guy is”
Huh I guess there is a hierarchy to these kinds of things.
Becoming abusive because you were abused is a reason not an excuse.
She also had a brain tumor
My favorite character in Law and order SVU, guy that won't stop moving boxes despite the murder police being there
There are dozens of breaches of the Constitution in this TV series. No warrants for entry or seizure of property. No warrants for arrest. Everything the police are not allowed to do, are in this series.
Now I’m gonna check every toilet I come across
I'd like to point out that this is another good example of a Mulaney-like scene where Odafin gets a perversion explained to him. 😂
good job uploading content with no resolution
I miss BD Wong on the show. One of the best actors ever, and such a great character.
I never understand why ppl like stuff like that

Is it me or season 5 had crazy wtf endings?
Walking threw a busy office. Being able to hear from across the room and finishing each others sentences.
One of the best SVU episodes, in my humble opinion.
What season and episode is this
This one stuck with me it was good

Bro this acting and writing is terrible what are you talking about...
This does seem like something that Doc Venture would do lol

I worked for a Chiropractor and my friend was married to said Chiropractor. The Joint and Dr. Vanderhyde always gave us the creeps. This does not surprise me.
Thanks for the closure
Ouch, that's.....awkward. But count on them for "layers!"
7:14 the couldn’t tell it’s a athletic cup in till they enhanced it.
Agreed
This was definitely one of the most haunting episodes I have ever seen in the series...just cause of how many losers there was in the situation, it ended with solid dread. Very woeful
For years, I was looking for the episode.
Ok, the “live streaming” joke got me…
1:23 okay did no one catch the pun there or...😂😂
No can u explain 😂🤣
Shame on you, Rusty.
“Live streaming video” was a A+ line.
Then you find out she had a tumor in her head which makes her situation pitiable.
A kiddy diddler is still a kiddy diddler stop excusing the actions of a fake sexual predator lol

Wish you guys added the outcome, the ending. 😅😭
I'm surprised that the police would bring some specialist to retrieve the camera and they would bring a voltage tester.
They were called in to investigate a hidden camera. It makes sense that they would bring the tech guy along and that he would bring his equipment, at least a bag with some basic stuff.
@@memawknowsbest4978 Very odd that a testing metre would be part of a kit to retrieve a camera.
@@seanwebb605 My husband works in IT. He carries one in his own bag and has another at home. It's a pretty basic piece of equipment for someone who works with electronics to carry.
I remember this one. I still think about it sometimes, the way the brain is so delicate.
@2:19 tbf, I've left the tv and the lights on before leaving the house even though no one's home

New technology on loan from NASA. Yeah, riiiight.
I hate when they give these bullshit explanations. Like NASA has the means to drastically improve the image quality of a very low quality recording. Anyone who knows anything at all about video and television at the time knows in production terms they simply recorded a good quality image then reduced the quality with filters and compression.
Reduce his sentence?! He should have been charged with Accessory After the Fact to CA/CSA!
Anyone else reminded of the peeping tom crisis in South Korea?
So what happens in the end? Did the teacher end up going to jail?
She made a deal got probation & put on the registry
I wouldn’t like that if someone was spying on me with a camera in the restroom, that’s disgusting horrible even if you know what I mean. Love you. Olivia Benson.
The kid is played by the same guy who played Deran Cody in Animal Kingdom.
Also plays Kevin from Fred the movie
Urine-luck 😂😂😂😂😂😂
ain’t that kevin in the fred movies
I wonder what type of abuse actually made him start spying on people in the bathroom? No excuse of his actions though of course.
Stacy Edwards as Special Guest in L&O suspect is guilty or not guilty
The dialogue on this show is so spontaneous and organic, I can't believe it's scripted!!

Peeping Toms and bathrooms don't mix. It isn't every day that you see a camera on a toilet in a public restroom which is divided by gender in the world.
