i believe it must have originally been demons souls 2, but was changed near the end of development to reflect the level design ethos of dark souls 1. each area feels as if it was created individually and then mashed together.
What actually happened was they developed a massive and well connected world but decided to rework the game toward the middle of development. After they took it apart and began reworking the map bandai moved the release deadline closer cutting off their second half of development. They slapped the map we have now together out of what they had finished in what little time they had left.
背景として見た時の位置と実際の位置に違いがあるのは、他のシリーズでもよくつかわれる手法だね。
アノールロンドから見た公爵の書庫しかり、葦名城天守から見た金剛山仙峯寺しかり。
実際のスケールで背景に表示すると狭い世界に見えすぎるし、かといって背景にあわせてマップ道中を長くしすぎるとダレるからね。
