- This is certainly one of the best vintage lighter from its time, thanks to a fabulous design by Dieter Rams. The choice of materials and the simple lines just gives a timeless look to this lighter that is now 50 years old
"Made in West Germany" man that's old-school
It was 30 some years ago, not as long as it feels tho
@@aurelien5747in 1990?
@@ninjirealYeah?
Name Braun on it 💪🏻
I remember my mum used to have a Braun cordless curling iron in the 90s that she filled up with butane. It got hot as heck!
The designs made by Dieter Rams at Braun are what inspired the Apple design language
Braun made many very well designed products at least from an aesthetic perspective
The comment I was looking for.
Finally someone said it 💯
Sony inspired them more.. even tried to pilage Sony back then. Yeah i was there.
Yoooo I was about to write what you say
They stopped with the inspiration when they figgured out that normal people can fix it.
If you can repair it... it ain't made by apple
pin this comment and give them a reward
I was about to comment that as well 😂
It also has multiple differing screw sizes and requires specialized tools for routine maintenance...that's Apple alright.
If you needed to replace the flint you'd have to send it into a repair center then they'd tell you you'd need a full replacement.
Depends when they made it. My 1980s Apple IIGS was super repairable
I love that characteristic Braun industrial design.
Oh yeah... And look at the plastic junk they've been pumping out since 90s...
They've tried to disguise chinese nonames under plastic cases made to resemble that design (sometimes ending up with absurdly unnecessarily humongous plastic contraptions for things like a toaster)...
Sometimes guts inside those abominations even got to last... More often - not.
And since 2000s there was just nothing to write home about. Instead of buying Braun you just could buy something similar at a local fair or order it from china. Lifespan of the products was the same.
That's how a company went from designing ergonomically and visually iconic products to making up less visually offensive outer shells for el cheaperooni chinese goods.
As history knows, once you go down that rabbithole of KPIs, QDCs, BBCs and another management bullshit - there's no turning back. The only good thing that can happen after that is workers boycotting the production to cut the milking time for those digit-sniffing rats in leather seats.
If it were made by apple it would be a solid white plastic box with a single button for a striker and unscrewed to put both the flint and butane inthe same hole, and would void your warranty if you tried disassembling it because you didn't take it to a certified apple technician and spent 150$ in labor and double that in parts
It's OK my friend, You're an android user now, they can't hurt you anymore.
@@Cyclonejack1988They literally can hurt everyone. They're one of the leading corporations against the right to repair laws. They show up to any case to make sure corps win, like the John Deere cases against farmers.
@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise *pats your head* shhh shhh shhh it's ok. Here have a google pixel instead.
@@Cyclonejack1988I wonder if Apple would do something inhumane and makes the IPhone or even Other Apple consumers, Such as MacBook users, buy the pieces for the device, just to make more profit for the company...
Oh wait...
They're doing it, aren't they...?
@@robertpopa7161 Didnt Apple copy the design language of Braun?
Possible, Apple used a lot of old Braun products as inspiration. Even the calculator on the iphne is in the style of an old Braun calculator
yes, i recall even iPod and iMac even possilby
Impeccable choice of music.
First and only daft punk able I checked out. Gotta listen to more but I loved this song off it
Has a liminal feel to it
Can't tell if honest or just living up to username
@@OmegaTheCollector nah, Veridis Quo is always a good choice
Veridis Quo is honestly one of my favorite Daft Punk songs
If Apple made a lighter it would cost a hundred dollars, extra flint would be subscription based for twenty a month and shaped specifically so that you couldn't use another brand, the extra butane would come in a can with a proprietary nozzle, and there would be a hundred adapters and flint shavers on Amazon.
Apple doesn't do subscriptions like that
I can tell you never used an Apple product by your comment.
Dieter Rams is the designer who inspired apples products. I really encourage everyone to look at some of his other designs. What a pretty lighter.
this song with the lighters is just perfection
Verticals shot was AWESOME
Bout time! 😅
Very risky for the lens though
Like a truly mini nuke!
YES! Very different point of view for the flame propagation.. and very cool.
The song is _Veridis quo_ by _Daft Punk_
The only other person to get it.
No you guys are not alone. @@KiwiClawDHA
One of my favorites from the Discovery album
Not alone brother, one of my favorites from the robots
Everything Braun designed in the 80s-90s is just amazing
Dieter Rams was designing for Braun from the mid 50’s.
That flame made a mushroom cloud
I went to the comments just to find this 😂👌
Dude you have the best taste in music.
In the good old days, the West German company Braun produced excellent industrial design. Braun hi-fi systems were incredibly good-looking. Design, made in West Germany. Made in Germany.
Now they have ads with topless mastectomy scarred women on hormones shaving their face.
I said to myself before you even grabbed the lighter “it’s gonna be braun” but I wasn’t sure if they ever made a lighter.
My father got two big lighters from Braun, which my grandfather got as a gift from his old Company. They were specially made for lighting cigarettes and cigars
Daft Punk Veridis Quo. I can't believe no one said Daft Punk yet. I love tgis for using this track. Also, nice lighter videos.
If it was made by Apple it would have required a Lightning cable to charge and it would be unrepairable
40 dollar a month flame subscription
And the next model will have rounded corners. Then 2 years after it will have sharp corners again. And then 2 more years it will be back to rounded corners. A "feature$ that needs to be highlighted every time
Don't forget the exclusive lighter fluid that runs out quicker than the other lighter fluids but is way more expensive.
@@BsedMan-if6tb Apple doesn't do subscriptions like that at all. Only for content like music and video and extra iCloud storage. macOS is free, none of their apps require subscriptions and none of their devices require any subscriptions for them to work.
@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise And Samsung and Pixel will copy them every single time.
I love Braun’s aesthetics.
Wow that top down shot was beautiful never seen that angle
The daft punk in back ground hit!
Wow that’s a good song
The whole album is good. And the album before it. And the albums after it. Have a listen sometime, you won't regret it. I will say that Human After All isn't for everyone though
The Discovery album by Daft punk is a musical masterpiece for sure
its veridis quo the by daft punk
Great video, and amazing song
I already miss your real voice :c
Very nice choice of music. Discovery is one of my favorite albums.
Bro you music taste is amazing, you brought back so many memories with this song
Love the daft punk track in the back bro and the lighters are out of this world cool!
Excellent song choice
These clips are so satisfying!
Love this song
I have a fascination with 70s "futuristic" objects. The aesthetics are just impeccable.
That top down shot of the flame was 🔥 no pun intended 😅
i love this song , very calming . i could work to this
For the editing alone you deserve a subscribe, love the soundtrack too
Jonathan Ive, apple’s designer, was most influenced by Dieter Rams, who worked for Braun. Perfect lighter …👍
This channel is so much better than all the ones who just dropship cheap temu lighters. I love seeing your collection, its awesome
Braun is still around and still makes lighters!
Beautiful lighter, beautiful music
Apple would've patented the screws... and the fluid... and the flints... and the wicks... and if you did any maintenance on the device they would've mailed you cease and desist letters.
Braun is one of the main inspirations for apple so that makes a lot of sense
Veridis Quo, nice
Nice touch with the Daft Punk....absolutely love these videos
Actually Apple was inspired by Braun and especially Dieter Rams. Did he design this lighter? Would love to have it.
Verdis quo being the background music is just perfect 👌🏽
Song?
Veridis quo daft punk. Listen to it on a nice surround setup
You should also take a listen to the entire album if you like. It's awesome
@joshuaquinones9760 if he does that he might as well watch the music video
I love the slowmo capturing the ignition of the flame, and the ‘mushroom’ flame formation
Actually thats pretty accurate, the lead designer at Apple for over 30 years has been Jonny Ive who said that he was very inspired by the bauhaus movement, that the company who made that lighter was one of the biggest followers of. So much so that he used to work there and that’s how Apple found him.
simply mesmerizing. great musix
wow, braun's logo has not changed in a long time. props for consistency.
I have a lighter like this! Is was from my grandfather and recently when he passed I took it, i was never allowed to touch it as a kid, so now i thought it was my time. The lighter itself looks brand new, but the little leather case was just completely gone. RIP opa, I miss you.
That upwards/vertical shot was amazing
A beauty of a lighter
Thank you for sharing your collection with me
Haven't seen this lighter in a long time. Thanks!
The lighter, the shots, the music. Perfection.
One great invention to get one hooked for life.
I love that whole cigarette POV shot at the end
Man I love DP! My favorite band!
I love the shot from right above the flame as the butane ignites! You can see the flame rising through the little gas cloud
Love the "clink" it makes when you flip it open
Your music is always on point
West Germany....strong yet humble. Dependable, resourceful ...somehow tells me everything is going to be alright, I remember.
When you see the made in Germany you already know it will be good beautiful and robust
That was sick edits and camera angles
That slow-mo shot of the flame was amazing
Perfect music for the aesthetic
The "Moroder-esque" background music is a _perfect_ touch. Wunderbar.
Your lighter collection is absolutely impressive.
The slow mo’s are so mesmerising 😮 what a piece of kit!
Nice Excalibur statuette! Also, nice angles and shots, gg!👍
Ending shots are epic!
The shot of the flame from above was absolutely AWESOME!!!
Braun actually gave the inspiration to the whole apple designs. Also for the calculator
I LOVE THE SLO-MO STRIKE AND LIGHT ! ! !
Excellent Choice of the soundtrack!
Omg sooo f-ing cool, love that over flame shot!!!🎉🎉🎉
I have an extreme affinity for anything made in West Germany during that time.
Coolest flame shot to date 🔥
Love your videos
I dont smoke or vape but i absolutely love these lighters
Impressed how quickly you got your gloves on to catch that lighter. 👏
A really elegant lighter 👌❤️
the right to repair on that lighter is awesome!
Looked like a mushroom cloud - awesome
That top down view was pretty lit NGL!
These videos are so relaxing to watch, T Y
❤ your channel man.
Beautiful.
Fun fact - todays apple took a lot of inspiration from Braun manufacturing designs, the famous braun t3 pocket radio looks like ipod, designed by Sir Dieter Rams in 1958. And more more devices which has minimalist design, including teenage engineering devices.
Braun designs are always great
Barun's products are literally what inspires apple's designs
My dad had one in my childhood. Always loved to play with it. The "click" is so satisfying...
Braun. My mother has had the same Braun mixer for the past +35 years now, still mixes dough for homemade bread etc with it. Braun made good stuff especially in the 60s-2000s especially. Had no clue they made lighters.
Now thats a timeless design
Your music taste is so exquisite
The song omg the song I love daft punk so much and just makes it perfection
Perfect track to go over the presentation. Remarkable work.
perfect music choice
I found one of those when I was a kid. It didn’t work unfortunately, but I remember how smooth and tactile the action felt. It was line a fidget for me.
