I had a winter shearing system. We got on top of foot problems by carefully paring the ewe’s feet as they left the lambing pen. They then went through a foot bath before being reunited with their lambs in the bulking up pen. Yes extra work at lambing, but hardly any problems once they go out. Also footbathing at each muster.
I noticed some Texel influence in the ewes.

Richard says that they would be ok on slats as long as there wasn't a draft getting underneath them. If you are shearing sheep in January you need to make sure that they are warm enough. If there are no chilly drafts in the barn then slats would be fine.
