    This was very helpful because it's the real thing! No fancy editing/graphics/actors etc. But down and dirty real talk which is what us expecting mommas need. Glad to know to prioritize sleep that's something that I needed to hear! I'm 33 weeks and eagerly awaiting my 1st baby (girl) to arrive.

    I really wish I'd found you sooner. My birth and breastfeeding journey was SUCH a mess. It was our first child and I hadn't been around any babies since my brother was born when I was 3. We had NO idea what to do, and we just assumed we'd figure most of it out as we went and the hospital staff would tell us the rest. And we ended up with an emergency c section after my broke and laboring for 24 hours and he hadn't moved down at all. The breastfeeding was chaotic and painful and ultimately dried up by week 5.
    You're videos have been so incredibly helpful, both with processing where things went wrong Last time so I can let it go and move on, and educating me for what to do/expect for the next one in a few years. I've already told him I want to purchase all of your classes as soon as we're ready to try to conceive again.
    You made a comment about you already do a lot of things for free in this video, and I think its hard for people who haven't made videos or built and promoted their own business online to understand how much time and energy goes into it, and how difficult it can be not knowing when or how much you'll see a financial return from it. I think you do an amazing job with this, and you deserve to put a price tag on the things you want to. Time, energy and expertise have value, and time and energy are 2 things you don't have an unlimited supply of and can't get a refund for if it doesn't at least break even on the investment.
    I love the idea of the checklist, and we would buy it, along with the programs. I'm so thankful for the work you've already done, and I'm looking forward to having a very different experience this next time because we will be so much better prepared and informed. Thank you!!

    The part about the all night interruptions is so true. I think I was woken up every 30 to 60 min all night either by the baby or staff. I was given the option to go home after one night or spend 2 nights in the hospital and I went home after 1 mainly because I was exhausted and knew that at home I would actually get more sleep even with a newborn!

    Thank you both so much! I am so thankful to Hannah for being willing to share her birth story and give insight into her postpartum healing process. Sarah, I have watched so many of your videos, and thanks to you I feel prepared to have a home birth with an experienced midwife in seven weeks. I feel empowered, excited, and ready to flex and flow until I meet my little girl! One thing -- I would love a video for dads from Hannah's partner or just dads about the birth and postpartum period. I have had my husband watch quite a few videos so he feels ready too, but a dad's perspective on how to help postpartum and just what to expect would be awesome.

    I was so prepared for pregnancy and birth and never really thought about postpartum (besides Breastfeeding) with my first baby. I always say I would do pregnancy and birth a million times over before I would want to do postpartum again!! Breastfeeding was pretty easy for me! But I lost alot of blood (my hemoglobin was 7.2) and had a 3rd degree tear. Luckily my second postpartum experience was much easier.
    I love watching your birth and postpartum stories it brings up so many memories I love thinking about my birth stories the good and the bad. 💗

    • @traceymcswain4354
      @traceymcswain4354 4 года назад +1

      I lost a lot of blood too. I got a blood transfusion right after birth. To try to take care of me hubby let me sleep at night and bottle fed baby. We still have to supplement because I don't make enough. I trace it back to sleeping when I should have been feeding baby. Well know better for next time. It's encouraging to know you didn't have an issue the second time. My OB team suggested putting in my chart to have a bag of blood ready next time.

    My first postpartum nurse was awesome, helped me with feedings, got my abdominal binder set up (had a csection) told me to make sure I took my pain meds when needed, gave me lots of info. My next nurse (and the one I dealt with the most) was awful, terrible attitude, didn’t offer help, and worst of all made me feel guilty whenever I asked for pain meds (which it was hard enough for me to ask for them bc I’m very against taking pain meds due to family history of addiction). When I was discharged too she completely forgot about us, we were waiting on our room for like an hour and a half and my husband ended up having to go up to the desk to ask what was going on... apparently it shouldn’t have taken longer than 15 minutes to get discharged.

    @whatgwenloves 4 года назад +1

    Yes app for logging everything was so helpful. I used it for tracking breastfeeding for at least a year because my brain could never remember what side I left off on or what time i last fed her. I also used it to track her sleep so i could better see what her patterns were. I was too exhausted to retain any of that info in my head.
    And yes to the scary half awakw dreams!! I would wake up breastfeeding my blanket in bed and freak out that I couldn't find the baby....who was sleeping soundly in her bassinet. Postpartum sleep deprivation is literal torture.

    I wish I had hand expressed more. I was taught in the hospital but I didn't realize I needed to do it more He was super tired too and ended up dehydrated. I let him sleep figuring he would cue when he was hungry. He didn't cue until probably a week or more in (too late to avoid having to be supplemented) As a first time mom, that was really hard and discouraging.

But you made a distinction about those with GD and breastfeeding. Curious if you can share more on that topic! Thanks!

    I use Feed Baby app by Penguin Apps for android. It tracks pretty much everything from feeding, diaper changes to even teeth coming in and medicines.

    I pumped a whole ounce and my baby isn't born yet 😅 I was just trying to stimulate my nipples to spread up labor (which wooorked so severely, I've been in labor for three days and after I did that was when I went to the hospital with strong contractions

    Is it really the nurses job to help with breast feeding and latch in post partum? With my first child, I feel like I was just referred to contact lactation instead of assisting with the feed.

    What about when babies are born early? They made me give my baby formula for the glucose test. I didn't really want to formula feed because I heard that your drops and colostrum is enough. My baby was born at 37 weeks and was 6lbs 11oz.

    When discussing meds at minute 32.... What meds exactly do they give around the clock? I wasn't given any as I was told because I'm nursing there wasn't much I could take.

      Maybe what they allow is based on the hospital? I had labored & pushed, but ended up with a c/s to avoid shoulder dystocia. I refused narcotics, but they were offered (Dilaudid). I took them up on alternating Tylenol & Ibuprofen (administered every 4 and 8 hours respectively), continuing that for the first 72 hours. As Sarah mentioned, I had to communicate with my nurses about whether they planned to administer the meds on schedule or if they expected me to request them PRN. I breastfed during that time and my son’s pediatrician confirmed that the risk for him was so low compared to having me in terrible pain in those early days. I hope that if you want your next experience to be different, that they’ll be accommodating!

    Your breastfeeding story is exactly like mine. I had a c section and was completely out of it and they asked me 3 times to bf.. They eventually forced my boob in my lo mouth...omg!! That nurse almost got punch in the nose but she read my body language and backed up. I will know for next time.

    Sweet, a long video that I can clean to haha. With my toddler, when she was born, it was so hard to breastfeed. My breasts are flat so the shield was the only possible way at that initial time, helpful to learn, though my daughter was slightly tongue tied. So I tried for SO long and SO hard, SO many different ways -I felt like a failure especially because she was a c-section, breach and wouldnt turn with TWO ECV's. I then pumped and that just wasn't working, my OB thinks my PCOS and insulin resistance hindered it and def. my terrible, terrible PPD for about 5 months. I'm pregnant now again, hoping to have a better experience this time, and the actual ability to BF. A couple of my nurses made me feel bad because BF was so hard and kept saying no let's try to again, when I asked for formula and ignored me, and I didn't know they... they essentially worked for me - you're allowed to say no and that's something I wish I knew and some friends knew! Wow, this is long and nobody will probably read this, lmao.

    What a gift you are to your sister and her family.
    Both my babies were extremely sleepy. We had to strip both of them down to their diaper and use a wet facecloth to keep them awake to eat. No one told me about the manual expression and Syringe.

For me it has been hard work to get this far even and I thought it would be easier. Have to give myself a lot of grace 💜 sending love from Ecuador to you on your journey with this too!!

      @@livingdread2343 Actually, it's very uncommon. 75% of the world's men are intact and no other developed country cuts the genitals of infants like the US. The majority of doulas and midwifes speak out against it. It's unnecessary, extremely painful, damaging, pointless and comes with risks including death.
