You have to remember that us older folks grew up with very little salt use and tire chains. This kind of snow was a lot more frequent. We just lived with it. Stay warm. God bless.
And we had a coal furnace for heat. No electricity needed. We also could go to bed when it got dark and stay in bed with warm blankets until dawn and figure out how to live with only flashlights, windows letting light in and sometimes a Coleman lantern. Warm water on the gas stove and do a sponge bath. Old times. Old solutions. God bless! Thanks for your videos!
Never ever discourage a teenager from doing work they enjoy… You should recognize how lucky you are he will even go outside without a phone in his hand and his head fully buried in it..
You've got nerves of steel, driving in that weather. I was holed up in the house for over a week. I gotta hand it to Iowa DOT - the roads do look good.
Ubering with Schmidt. Only operating in bad weather conditions. Back when I was trucking during the midwest winters the truck never shut down, and anti gel treatment was added at every fuel stop.
It’s been a rough few weeks in Iowa weather wise the few weeks. Saw pictures on TV of 10-12 foot drifts on IA141 between Mapleton and Ute where the DOT had to use a snowblower to open the highway

I'm glad uber dad and uber mom were able to stay warm. Most of our snow is finally gone. We were up to about three feet a couple weeks ago... Troy's a good kid. It's really surprising to see someone his age working hard in those weather conditions. I know you are Kurt, but you should be really proud of him.
You are truly blessed to be able to not work and take care of your family during the bad weather. My husband is working on the North Slope in Alaska and I sure wish he was here.

Never good news when they pull the plows, but what are you going to do? Mother nature has her way sometimes, and yes, just sit back and relax and enjoy the time off.
Not to brag, in Norfolk at a dandy -20 degrees i was outside clearing 2 of my neighbors' driveways (and mine) so they could gain access to the street if needed. Not anything I'd care to do daily. No problem. Glad you're all safe, warm and comfy.
@@Retread2006 For several years I knew Kent Morgan, we both worked at NUCOR Steel. I retired in 1998, no idea of his history after that. Thanks for the comment. Be well.
37 inchs and -57 here in da rockies of wyoming this last 2 weeks... We had a total of 11 days in the negatives..... Didn't see above zero till day 12 and we had road damage and quite a few folks without water due to busted pipes
Why are the stores closed? I grew up in Tomah WI in the 60's and your snow there is not bad at all. Wind chill is only what your skin feels. Actual temperature affecting trucks, etc. is the air temperature, not the wind chill.
These kinda snow storms are normal for Alberta Canada. Specially for the Calgary area. But We have had some snow but nothing like that your currently getting. Atm it’s melting for us lol. Last week we had minus -30 c or colder. Good video as always. Stay safe and warm for you and family. :)
You had more snow than we did last week in n c Kansas but the Same wind and temp. I am from Oklahoma so has been a long time since I saw this. I lived in Minnesota for a while so it is not like I haven’t ever lived with it but it has been 25 years. Poor Texans had snow all the way down to Laredo. Can you imagine their pain. Stay safe to all the Schmidt’s and blessings to you Good luck with First Class.
My sister moved to Cleburne,TX from KC because she was sick of winter...its been 5 years and each winter Texas has gotten screwed! And she has the added frustatration of finding out Texas doesnt bury the utility/water lines deep enough to not freeze. That'll teach her to move!
When I was in the army I drove the trucks that hauled around tanks and the order came down to shut down even though it was -50. Well I stayed up all night and started her up an shut her down in intervals. Made it seem like the column was taking turns heating their cabins but it was really just me. Staring up and shuttin down. No one bothered to leave their rig to find out what was going on (it was cold outside) Well morning came and guess what. Not one single driver got their truck started but mine. Command couldn’t even get mad at me because there was a amor crew that needed an emergency recovery and we were the only rig that could do it. Moral of the story never blindly follow orders, always question authority.
The reverse happened during the summertime. We were ordered to start and shut down in intervals so as the trucks wouldn’t overheat from constant runtime. Well the maintenance platoon doesn’t the next month and a half or more replacing blown up fan clutches on trucks that followed the interval procedure. Turns out the fan clutches didn’t take kindly to being shocked by needing immediate engagement on start up because it was so hot out the thermostat commanded them to clutch on start up due to the extreme heat. It must’ve been millions of dollars in damage done to what were essentially brand new trucks at the time and guess who got the blame. The maintenance platoon for not warning of the obvious problems that could arise from constantly starting and stopping big diesel engines in extreme heat. As if it wasn’t an obvious risk.
Good evening Kurt, and UBER DAD.THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. I see you got the snow storm that blew right pass us here in Oklahoma City Oklahoma.I wish we could have got that here.Well you guys stay warm and be safe out there on the road. It was nice seeing you 2 together.
Way back in the 60s and 70s we ran chains on the school buses and school wouldn't have a snow day until the snow reached the bumper of the bus. Now a days school would close in a heavy rain.
I like the snow! It makes my yard look as nice as my neighbors!! This heavy wet snow storm we just went thru I lost 5 trees and one bush. Lots of cutting to do come spring.

Back in the day when CONSOLIDATED FREIGHTWAYS, yes that was the name back then, when they were building their own trucks (later becoming FREIGHTLINER) they ran the exhaust pipes through the fuel tanks to keep the fuel from jelling up in the cold. Not a bad idea that I have not seen reproduced in modern trucks. I had the exact same motor in my furnace go out at the first of the year. The new motor is on its way. Had to fire up my wood stove and get the house up to 80+ degrees. We are not at cold temps outside, we are hovering around 50’s, that’s plus 50degrees.
