Backstepping through the fog was probably the first speedrun tech I ever discovered, me and my brother played through this game over and over and it's still the best movie game ever made.
"In one of the interviews, Elijah Wood's talking about how he's a pro gamer." Well, I mean, of course he is. Haven't you ever seen Spy Kids 3? He's _The Guy._
I'm getting a chuckle that youtube thinks this is Dragon's Dogma. But now that I think about it I'd kind of love to see a Dragon's Dogma speedrun at a GDQ event.
Man this game still looks amazing. So much time and effort was put into these games. I still think anyone my age still remembers the first time they saw this game in RL.
these games were a large chunk of my adolescent years. ... especially after I found the glitch in the GBA version that let you scale your weapon damage infinitely.
I love this game me and my best friend, who died last year rest his soul, used to play the absolute tar out of this game, we played for days loving the combat, doing the challenge missions and beating the story with whatever characters. I miss him and seeing this reminds me of playing with him... rest in peace man.
Honestly this is revolutionary... SO many things about this game in this time around 2006. To be honest the games really utilized the Transitions of gaming and actual movie scenes from the movie itself. It just to show that this type of gameplay would of been revolutionary and why this game was so uniquely remembered is because the game itself is like the movie exactly.. Sure you have to load certain moments in the game, But the game itself had proper Cutscenes that were already so well designed and recorded, they used the scenes in the movie... But then managed to make a 3D environment top down playable game like this... Sometimes I wish people would make some type of games like this more often, It makes so much more money to your budgets especially for releasing smaller games.
Brooo - Maxy is the best! His streams are always great to watch and he puts in the work on Twitch. Love his late night streams and loved this run. Great job Maxy!
I distinctly remember grinding southern gate out to the last orc with the always perfect cheat code on as a kid. Soooo many characters leveled that way.
That was actually frame perfect start of the time! Amazing! I have to agree this game was one of the best if not the best game based of a movie.. sadly enough the other way arround barely ever worked out :(
When I think of EA's Lord of the Ring games, I think of two things: How good they were and how infuriating the helm's deep: breached wall level was in the Two Towers game.
I feel like there is a LOT of optimization to be done here, but it was still nice to see the game on a GDQ! There's so much Experience left unspent, and those combos can't all be pointless, right?
A lot of combos have been tested, but none of them really seem to make the run faster on Easy difficulty. Harder difficulties would probably require more of the combos/abilities, though. (I also just got a 1:31 in this category on my twitch streams)
Getting to the point where those archers should have been shooting at the ent who is breaking the dam unlocked a deep angry memory in me lol. I definitely remember getting pissed off at the game at that point when I played it as a kid! How funny that they just don't spawn if you leave the previous archers.
Damn, this poor runner! This is one of the top 10 worst RNG in GDQ runs EVER. He goat'd on the bad luck that day, but still pulled through. Nice going.
Wait how did he skipped first Gandalf level???? Or is the Ents level first? I really should replay this game, I thought that Minas Tirith was first Gandalf level
Runner introduction starts at 0:23
Run starts at 4:21
Commentary is provided by bittie, decosmic and AnEternalEnigma
Bonnie Dimples is host
I thought it was so cool how it transfered to the movie cutscenes, it looked seamless back in the day.
Oh yeah. From a theatrical point of view they still. So good
I loved playing this when I was younger. Grinding to max out all the characters and playing every mission with each character was unique for sure
Backstepping through the fog was probably the first speedrun tech I ever discovered, me and my brother played through this game over and over and it's still the best movie game ever made.

I loved this game back in the day. So glad to get some nostalgia today. Great run! Also, coolest vibes from the runner and couch. So much fun!
None of the puns got to me but the "arrow dynamic" one broke my cold demeanor. Bravo to everyone involved, very entertaining!
That's amazing, just finished playing this game the other day
I used to have this game on Gamecube back when it came out. It was definitely one of the better movie tie-in games. It was such a good time
I'm getting a chuckle that youtube thinks this is Dragon's Dogma.
But now that I think about it I'd kind of love to see a Dragon's Dogma speedrun at a GDQ event.
That would be interesting How would one even deal with the rng of the pawn system
Didn't the game have a speedrun mode built in?
Man this game still looks amazing. So much time and effort was put into these games. I still think anyone my age still remembers the first time they saw this game in RL.
Thank you so much for running this! I hope we get The Two Towers and The Third Age at GDQ!
I love that game. Now I need to replay it. It's so awesome to see it at GDQ
Excellent Run Maxylobes, and great commentary from the cou...chairs. Well done!
heck yeah, what a fun speedrun. if any game deserves a proper remake, its this one XD plus the gba version was a sleeper hit too
these games were a large chunk of my adolescent years.
... especially after I found the glitch in the GBA version that let you scale your weapon damage infinitely.
The GBA version was so much fun. Way better than it had any right to be. Making OP characters was so much fun.
I played ROTK on GBA to death. Absolutely fantastic games.
HAHA absolutely loved the It's Gandalf! and the n Bittie went "It's Me!" and its like super cute so i imagined Chibi Gandulf :P
"about tree fiddy" lmfaooo i was laughing so hard
I love this game me and my best friend, who died last year rest his soul, used to play the absolute tar out of this game, we played for days loving the combat, doing the challenge missions and beating the story with whatever characters. So many memories I got this game for Christmas when I was like 10
one of my favorite games of all time
This game was such a childhood gem for me.
Back when EA made good games, such a blast
Honestly this is revolutionary... SO many things about this game in this time around 2006.

loved this game as a kid
the absolute despair in his voice when he says "...and i didn't do the cutscene skip"
this game was so awesome loved it when i was younger
He beat the game faster than the movie lol
Brooo - Maxy is the best! His streams are always great to watch and he puts in the work on Twitch. Love his late night streams and loved this run. Great job Maxy!
I distinctly remember grinding southern gate out to the last orc with the always perfect cheat code on as a kid. Soooo many characters leveled that way.
Man I loved this game, it was so good! Not many movie games are this good anymore!
this game was a gold nugget amongst all the shit pile that were movie game adaptions at that time.
Ahahahahahahahah as a Scot, the opening line from the commentator cracked me up 😂 'bonnie' means beautiful, is no a town
I never had this one. I had The Two Towers. Both were great games and it's cool to see this. Maxylobes knocked it out of the park.
1:38:05 Gimli, sun of Glowin'
Such awesome movies, such a good game. Makes me want to dust off my Gamecube again. Thanks GDQ!
good books too. Tolkien wrote good books from fellowship to twin towers to return of the king.
I don't know how this gets decided, but for me RUclips thinks this is Dragon's Dogma, which is amazing
1:00 (in grandpa Simpson voice) Turn it up! TURN IT UP!
The alligator thing is called Grond
have to say, the cheese from the runner and company was adorable.
One of the most under rated games of all time. This was game breaking for me back in the day
That was actually frame perfect start of the time! Amazing! I have to agree this game was one of the best if not the best game based of a movie.. sadly enough the other way arround barely ever worked out :(
Such a solid game
When I think of EA's Lord of the Ring games, I think of two things: How good they were and how infuriating the helm's deep: breached wall level was in the Two Towers game.
Sad not to see Orc's Bane. I used that all the time to get Excellents right off the bat, then do a short combo for perfect.
everybody who played this game loved it :)
Was there a nearly identical "Top of the Wall" level in the Two Towers game? I remember that level, but I swear I never had this game.
Great run folks. Thanks for representing LotR.
“No maidens? No problem!”
I feel like there is a LOT of optimization to be done here, but it was still nice to see the game on a GDQ! There's so much Experience left unspent, and those combos can't all be pointless, right?

I love this game
would love this game on Xbox Series X or PS5 with achievements, and great run Maxy !!!!!!
Nostalgia
what a great run !
I know I never actually owned this game, that we just got it from rental on Blockbuster when I was a kid, but I still remember it so vividly.
Getting to the point where those archers should have been shooting at the ent who is breaking the dam unlocked a deep angry memory in me lol. I definitely remember getting pissed off at the game at that point when I played it as a kid!
How funny that they just don't spawn if you leave the previous archers.
So you're telling me I could have just ran straight past them.... bruh
Yoooooooo here's hoping a two towers run happens
50:49 - I respect the joke
lol that green screen in the cut-scene at 8:13
God, I remember being so impressed with the graphics in this game. It looks so flat now
28:15 😂😂😂
I miss having good LOTR games.
kudos this is NOT an easy game
1:14:38 was that an Austin Powers reference? Nice.
It was!
The ents level is first
i remember twin towers being a bit better but these games were fun back in the day
great game but doesnt touch the third age. omg what an amazing LOTR game.
Those puns were getting out of hand, like, gimli a break guys
Lord of the rng 😂😂
GROND
I liked the books better tbh
first.. i guess...
