I love the camera shifts to ghosts stalking you. It feels so creepy yet subtle, with no need for jumpscares.
It's so good to finally get an opportunity to watch the true story that Luigi's Mansion was based on.

Fatal frame is to this day the only game to ever actually make me feel uneasy. I love the atmosphere
Man, Luigi's Mansion is a lot darker than I remember. It really snapped me out of my comfort zone.
All these photography puns made the run even better lol
Yeah, it really helped *develop* the runner's personality. But I don't really like puns. I wish he would *shutter* up with them and *focus* on the run.
Actually, the "based on a true story" b.s. on the game advertizement and box was tottaly a localization choice. The actual creators of the game stated they took inspiration from a few urban legends and ghost stories (duh!) but never made any claim the events of the game are based in "a true story".
this also is slightly untrue, Makoto Shibata has gone on record saying he has had paranormal experiences, and used the feelings he felt to guide the direction Fatal Frame 1 went in, and the localization team chose to exaggerate that tenfold
I have to inform you that I have watched the history channel many times and ghosts are historically real. And if you don't believe me why don't you go back in time!
We need more Fatal Frame series in GDQ events
I just played this game for the first time this summer and it legitimately creeped me out. Great atmosphere but it was scary!
Dead+ should be a title for the ghost exorcist anime.

Honestly, thanks for explaining. I know on my end I sort of just figured it out casually and never questioned it. It's nice to actually know
I always thought there was some deeper meaning behind it, but I think you're right on the money. Without knowing that, the puzzle seems to make even less sense when you fail it and the dolls move around. A great example of psychological horror games making you overthink something with a surprisingly simple solution. :)

i played this game with good surround sound when it first came out and it freaked the hell out of me.
Has anyone tried a 100% run of this? Must be maddening to catch some of the vanishing ghosts.
scxcr I e done it a few times it’s a nightmare because those ghosts pop in for a second you have to get a photo of and can be missed easily
I did. I'm almost sure some of the ghosts are uncatchable without some sort of glitch or cheating device.
@@sakurashounen Nah, it's possible. I finished the Ghost List 100% (on PS2, at least) a few years ago. It IS possible :) Compared to the OG Fatal Frame 4 on the Wii, at least. Glad that got fixed on PC, though.
Fatal Frame is the only horror game that i couldn't play till the end, so scary..
Both this and NightCry are awesome runs. Love seeing survival horror games at the AGDQ.

Finally beat the game today after it sitting on my shelves for years. It was really enjoyable except Night 3 which got too hectic for me lol.
This run really lifted my spirits!

Camera Obscura has nothing to do with capturing ghosts. Its basically just a very primitive pinhole camera. Not sure why he is using that term.

I knew I remembered that the wall of arms that was in the NightCry speedrun was also in another game.... that isn't a Resident Evil.

You know what's worse than ghost? Fatal frame rate.
I've played other Fatal Frames, but I just can't do this one. The way the movement stick swaps and you aim with the left one when the camera is out makes it unplayable for me.
I kinda liked the audiences in this run... they made a lot of ghost puns
