Sam gave the best advice on how to use a live trap ever!!!!!!!! everytime i set the trap the animals around my deck would eat it and run....all the websites advise u to give them TOO much bait....but Sam will tell uu the truth....strap the bait to the cage and force him to stay in there! :) I caught my first possum!! Thanks Sam! :)

Nice video Sam. Gave you a thumbs up. I like the idea of tieing off the bait and only exposing some of it. That will definitely help me up my numbers with a live cage trap.

Sam, I live in Houston and I work as a Maintenace Technician for a privately owned apartments with 22 bldgs and 154 units. I started working here 2 years ago and it was then that a we got a call about a critter scratching from the inside of the walls. We found an entry point on the roof where this citter had dug into a rotted osb board to gain access inside for what Im assuming is heat. We set traps out but never caught anything. And while we were doing that we left the hole open but had a board nearby to cover it in the case we see it outside. It turned out to be a possum. I assume the possum found a new place because no one again complained about animal scatching from inside the walls or anything to that effect. Unfortunately, this possum is back and from surveillance cameras I found that the possum was not alone. On the video right behind the big one followed 2 tiny posslings so it appears that an entire family of possums has chosen the property as home.
I have several question but Ill start with the one that I cant seem make a decision on.....
Should we charge the possum for rent on a 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom apartment? How about a deposit?
But seriously, I have tried nothing and Im all out of ideas. Ive even placed an eviction notice. Ive tried to them via phone but it keeps going to voicemail and so Im being avoided.
I would like to get rid of this possum problem ok nce and for all. I will be placing traps by the entrance point. And board up the hole at created by this possum once I have caugt it and its roomies
My real questions are will the trap you used on this video for the coon work for a possum? And what bait should one use to lure this animal into a trap? Are there anything about POSSUMS 101 that you would care to share with me. Thsnk you ahead of time. I enjoy the videos that you share.

Nice!!!! used marshmallows first in the attic, Coon ate them and got out. Bated again with mallows and didn't touch it. Put this outside with $1.00 Sardines in soybean oil done 1st night. I set out again with another can to verify. Awesome video and straight to the point. Caught, shot with cricket .22 and dumped, will never use anything else but $1.00 Dollar General Sardines and .22 to finish the job. Thanks a bunch. no competition from me but maybe start a biz in STX....

OK, I bought the same traps you have, the same cans of sardines & still can't catch the 2 racoons in my backyard. Tonight will be my 4th try. My camera shows them reaching in with their paws through the holes even though I blocked the end of the cage. Any suggestions?I guess I can block the sides too. I even staked the cages to the ground because they was dragging the cages across my yard.

  • @parrotbill9072

I used those cheap Tractor Supply cage traps and the $90.00 cage traps are better. Mainly because they're more stable and don't rock so much.
However you can use tent stakes at each corner to stabilize them and hold them down.

We use marshmallows for bait skewered on a stick at the back of the cage, they look like eggs as well as being sweet treats to attract them then we gas them with carbon monoxide,we are up North in Canada on Vancouver Island where gun rules are super strict so this is the only option, that cage looks just like the one we use but I put mesh where the bait is so they can not reach it from out of the cage and I peg the trap into the cage so they can't move them around

HELP!!!!!!!!!! We live in suburbs, lots trees in back, big three tier deck. We had to take out 2 BIG claims on our house, being raccoons caused most of water damage. They were living in joist in my bedroom upstairs cathedral ceiling , we didn’t know what it was until we had HUGE WATER DAMAGE. Flashing around chimney, the animal critter co. Patched it up years ago b4 ALL WATER DAMAGE IN our home, lots of Aspergillis mold ( prob why I’ve been SOOOO SICK )
Anyhow, they are back again , the guy caught 8 , & it was very costly. Caught one in our finished basement ceiling tiles. I told him I heard a raccoon , LOTS OF BIG NOISE By heat ducts, turned out he was walking on top of ducts or on the side. NO ONE BELIEVED me, until my Husband was fixing a leak, called me in PANIC a raccoon was right in his face when he peeked upin ceiling tiles. Sorry this is long, but this HAS BEEN MY LIFE. FOR YEARS. ANyhow I’m an expert in their sounds. NOW I HEAR THEM IN MY CEILING AGAIN in my cathedral ceiling upstairs. This guy made A LOT OF MONEY OFF US, in which we did not complain it’s only fair, but I think they are in attic. Is there anything we can do on our own, I feel like he doesn’t think it’s worth it to check it out & I don’t think he really checked roof that good. It’s been almost a YEAR FOR OUR CLAIM WITH LEAK ...UGH, I just don’t want the construction team to put dry wall back up if there in ceiling somewhere. This IS SOOO FRUSTRATING, my husband had to tear down our pool to get under deck in which some were living there. CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE, IM SOOO SORRY THIS IS SOO LONG....BUT RACCOONS ARE THE STORY & DESTRUCTION OF OUR LIVES! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING 😊🙏🏻

The raccoon that is in my attic won't go for the sardines bait. I have a rope tied to the trap door to open it from a safe distance if it's caught. The thing is, the color and markings of the rope resembles a snake. I wonder if the rope is scaring it off. Does anyone know if raccoons are afraid of snakes? If they are, then I'll just buy a fake snake and hang it near the attic vent to scare it off.

There are a few techniques, my favorite is .22LR 🤷🏻‍♂️
Just kidding but in all seriousness the best way is to start with them as babies.

I thought I had a raccoon problem after hearing something under the floor and set up a trap . Next morning I had a coon . Next night noise again . Set trap next morning another coon long story short 8 full grown assholes caught . Tired of coon problem I skinned one out and hung it at entrance. Next morn skinned coon gone now I have a coyote problem . No more live traps I’m going 22 .
