Sam gave the best advice on how to use a live trap ever!!!!!!!! everytime i set the trap the animals around my deck would eat it and run....all the websites advise u to give them TOO much bait....but Sam will tell uu the truth....strap the bait to the cage and force him to stay in there! :) I caught my first possum!! Thanks Sam! :)
Most of the time when people talk alot in there videos I usually just quit watching. But I watch every bit of this one. Lots of useful information. Thank you sir.
Nice video Sam. Gave you a thumbs up. I like the idea of tieing off the bait and only exposing some of it. That will definitely help me up my numbers with a live cage trap.
Sam, I live in Houston and I work as a Maintenace Technician for a privately owned apartments with 22 bldgs and 154 units. I started working here 2 years ago and it was then that a we got a call about a critter scratching from the inside of the walls. We found an entry point on the roof where this citter had dug into a rotted osb board to gain access inside for what Im assuming is heat. We set traps out but never caught anything. And while we were doing that we left the hole open but had a board nearby to cover it in the case we see it outside. It turned out to be a possum. I assume the possum found a new place because no one again complained about animal scatching from inside the walls or anything to that effect. Unfortunately, this possum is back and from surveillance cameras I found that the possum was not alone. On the video right behind the big one followed 2 tiny posslings so it appears that an entire family of possums has chosen the property as home. I have several question but Ill start with the one that I cant seem make a decision on..... Should we charge the possum for rent on a 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom apartment? How about a deposit? But seriously, I have tried nothing and Im all out of ideas. Ive even placed an eviction notice. Ive tried to them via phone but it keeps going to voicemail and so Im being avoided. I would like to get rid of this possum problem ok nce and for all. I will be placing traps by the entrance point. And board up the hole at created by this possum once I have caugt it and its roomies My real questions are will the trap you used on this video for the coon work for a possum? And what bait should one use to lure this animal into a trap? Are there anything about POSSUMS 101 that you would care to share with me. Thsnk you ahead of time. I enjoy the videos that you share.
Nice!!!! used marshmallows first in the attic, Coon ate them and got out. Bated again with mallows and didn't touch it. Put this outside with $1.00 Sardines in soybean oil done 1st night. I set out again with another can to verify. Awesome video and straight to the point. Caught, shot with cricket .22 and dumped, will never use anything else but $1.00 Dollar General Sardines and .22 to finish the job. Thanks a bunch. no competition from me but maybe start a biz in STX....
OK, I bought the same traps you have, the same cans of sardines & still can't catch the 2 racoons in my backyard. Tonight will be my 4th try. My camera shows them reaching in with their paws through the holes even though I blocked the end of the cage. Any suggestions?I guess I can block the sides too. I even staked the cages to the ground because they was dragging the cages across my yard.
you said sweet corn! they know just when I'm going to harvest and they got lots of hungry friends. i never see them. is there any critter who poopys as much. can i use a spring trap
Best ever for setting and not wasting bait. I seem to have luck using moist catfood (cheaper at Menards) but I will try half open can wired. Thanks. Please answer my other post on brand and model of trap.
Also when I trap the coon should I set the trap up in the same spot to catch more or move it to a different spot if so how far should I reset the trap? It's a 16x16 run in a half acre back yard South Carolina fella here really appreciate the feed back!
You have blown my mind. I never knew trappers set so many traps, as a boy many many yrs ago, I had 10 traps out once. I thought it was to much. Lmao, Little did I know. I love watching you videos, shows how little I knew. Wish I could go back with your wisdom. I'm 65. But still dream of doing things I use to do. Without our Dreams were finished. So I'll dream on, and keep watching you videos. Wish I would have found your channel lyears ago. God bless, Never let up you'll go down hill quickly. Love your high energy. 👍
Good video...makes sense. I bought a trap and baited like this yesterday, but the raccoon(s) didn't come last night (not uncommon). Question: do I have to put fresh bait in the trap daily, or will is last a few days? Thanks.
Man I use similar live trap last night it went off but for some reason he came out only thing I found is hair on entrance I wanna know is it really possible that he crawled under such tiny space?
Great video, thanks, Im trying to livetrap with house cats around, so all the info is helpful. Trying apples right now, but gonna try eggs tomorrow. --- So far, a cat, and a Blank and White Cat, as we call them Pole Cats! Thanks, The skunk was a young one and the mom or pop tried to dig around the trap, and boy was there a lot of dirt in the cage and around it! --- I moved the cover away, and gently talked to it, and moved away and let it disappear on its own!
helpful video Sam, thank you. Good to know the tips on baiting and setting. I've got at least 2 living in the rafters of my pole barn right now. I'm wondering... because I can't totally identify where they are coming in at (frickin 12' ceiling)....maybe they can go straight up a wall. Should I set up in the rafters? thanks
I used those cheap Tractor Supply cage traps and the $90.00 cage traps are better. Mainly because they're more stable and don't rock so much. However you can use tent stakes at each corner to stabilize them and hold them down.
on the video when you dye your traps i was wondering if you also wax your traps and if you do wax some of them, which traps do you wax and which ones do you only dye? Do you need to wax them if you dye them?
thanks Sam just bought alive trap to get rid of some. I have alarge wood pile along a fence .I,amwondering if they have ahome in there my dogs are always smelling over there. what do you think Sam . your video,s are super also.
I live near a creek...i have caught 23 raccoons and possum this summer alone...i use the same traps in video..i got mine at a farm store both only about $30.00. I took them about 6-10 miles out in country by river and let loose..i used balony, hot dogs, dog food..etc..whatever i had...love to waje up with a varment in my cages..
We use marshmallows for bait skewered on a stick at the back of the cage, they look like eggs as well as being sweet treats to attract them then we gas them with carbon monoxide,we are up North in Canada on Vancouver Island where gun rules are super strict so this is the only option, that cage looks just like the one we use but I put mesh where the bait is so they can not reach it from out of the cage and I peg the trap into the cage so they can't move them around
HELP!!!!!!!!!! We live in suburbs, lots trees in back, big three tier deck. We had to take out 2 BIG claims on our house, being raccoons caused most of water damage. They were living in joist in my bedroom upstairs cathedral ceiling , we didn’t know what it was until we had HUGE WATER DAMAGE. Flashing around chimney, the animal critter co. Patched it up years ago b4 ALL WATER DAMAGE IN our home, lots of Aspergillis mold ( prob why I’ve been SOOOO SICK ) Anyhow, they are back again , the guy caught 8 , & it was very costly. Caught one in our finished basement ceiling tiles. I told him I heard a raccoon , LOTS OF BIG NOISE By heat ducts, turned out he was walking on top of ducts or on the side. NO ONE BELIEVED me, until my Husband was fixing a leak, called me in PANIC a raccoon was right in his face when he peeked upin ceiling tiles. Sorry this is long, but this HAS BEEN MY LIFE. FOR YEARS. ANyhow I’m an expert in their sounds. NOW I HEAR THEM IN MY CEILING AGAIN in my cathedral ceiling upstairs. This guy made A LOT OF MONEY OFF US, in which we did not complain it’s only fair, but I think they are in attic. Is there anything we can do on our own, I feel like he doesn’t think it’s worth it to check it out & I don’t think he really checked roof that good. It’s been almost a YEAR FOR OUR CLAIM WITH LEAK ...UGH, I just don’t want the construction team to put dry wall back up if there in ceiling somewhere. This IS SOOO FRUSTRATING, my husband had to tear down our pool to get under deck in which some were living there. CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE, IM SOOO SORRY THIS IS SOO LONG....BUT RACCOONS ARE THE STORY & DESTRUCTION OF OUR LIVES! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING 😊🙏🏻
My coon has gotten out five times in a row and I can’t imagine how? Can another raccoon let him out? Just a standard Havahart but seems like no way he could get out???
I was eager to try this tying the sardine to the back method, but I realized once I had the sardines that I can't reach far enough to tie it to the back. This method is for big/tall dudes only.
Tractor Supply has this same trap, they actually have a two trap bundle (one large trap like the one shown here and a smaller trap), my cost was right at $30.00
Hey I watched your video I like it Can you tell me how much for the small cage for squirrels I have squirrels in my backyard I am going to trap them and release back to the wild I don’t like them I don’t wanna shoot them Please....... let me know if possible to sent me one I’ll take care whatever the cost is For squirrels only 🙏 sir
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SARDINE TRAP SET UP HAD TO SHOOT A RACCOON OFF MY CHICKEN RUN LAST NIGHT WOULD PREFER TO TRAP THEN SHOOT AWESOME INFO!! APPRECIATE IT BROTHER IM SUBSCRIBING!
Great Sam Sam do I have to boil a dog proof trap before I start using it or can I just use it right out of the box. Should I boil the extra Chain that’s on the trap. Hopefully you can get back to me I don’t know what year this video was done but I watch all your videos several times over keep up the good work thank you my friend.
Got a racoon, gonna try it, gonna buy a trap, sardines and a gun. Think babies are in my attic, dang, sounds like birds. This is the second time paying to have raccoons removed from attic. Can't understand why they always pick my house out of all the houses in the neighborhood. Hope this works, but that raccoon sound is scary.
The raccoon that is in my attic won't go for the sardines bait. I have a rope tied to the trap door to open it from a safe distance if it's caught. The thing is, the color and markings of the rope resembles a snake. I wonder if the rope is scaring it off. Does anyone know if raccoons are afraid of snakes? If they are, then I'll just buy a fake snake and hang it near the attic vent to scare it off.

I thought I had a raccoon problem after hearing something under the floor and set up a trap . Next morning I had a coon . Next night noise again . Set trap next morning another coon long story short 8 full grown assholes caught . Tired of coon problem I skinned one out and hung it at entrance. Next morn skinned coon gone now I have a coyote problem . No more live traps I’m going 22 .
Heather Fultz The bastards love it just make sure you strap it down so they don’t reach in from the side n eat it all. Make sure to kill the ugly shits too!!!
Awesome idea about wiring the can to the back of the trap!!! Thanks for the tip Sam!!!!
'I don't get many beaver calls....'
Hang in there dude there's someone out there for ya...!
Nice video Sam. Gave you a thumbs up. I like the idea of tieing off the bait and only exposing some of it. That will definitely help me up my numbers with a live cage trap.
Great video and advice. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
Thanks for the tip about wiring the sardine can to the cage.
Excellent tips on live trapping setup of sardines cans and wired to the cage in the vertical position.
Your video was a godsend! I was able to snag a raccoon, but I didn't eat it! Too cute for good eats.
I don't get too many Beaver calls either. I used to get a lot more when I was younger and in good shape.
Sam, I live in Houston and I work as a Maintenace Technician for a privately owned apartments with 22 bldgs and 154 units. I was in tears when i seen Mr burrrrrrr the problem in the back seat for dinner!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Just got a couple of these traps today, glad I ran across your video here, thanks for sharing.
Hey sam i know this is an old video hope you reply. How big is the big live trap ? Do you know the sizes ? Thanks
Sam have you had problems with them bending the door on the trap and then escaping over night?
OK, I bought the same traps you have, the same cans of sardines & still can't catch the 2 racoons in my backyard. Tonight will be my 4th try. Very cool, thanks for the great advice.

it was damned good. glad u got that lil' mean SOB! should have done an in the pot video with that lil' mean sob.
Thanks for the helpful video.

damn it Sam. I love to get beaver calls. Now days it's far to little. lol
on a serious note do you have to mark your live traps with a tag like your foot holds
All traps in Wisconsin must be tagged
+Sam Wood Outdoors thanks for all you do and responding so quickly!!😂
I had no idea raccoons made those noises. Excuse my ignorance but I’m only watching raccoon videos because the bastards are in my attic.
Where can I purchase a good but inexpensive camera to see if coons are coming in my garden at night and where would I place it?
You have blown my mind. I never knew trappers set so many traps, as a boy many many yrs ago, I had 10 traps out once. I thought it was to much. Lmao, Little did I know. I only have .22 cal, 14.3 Gr. pellet rifle - do you think it can kill a raccoon in trap from short distance ?
Yes. I have killed Coyotes and Beavers with mine.
Good video...makes sense. I bought a trap and baited like this yesterday, but the raccoon(s) didn't come last night (not uncommon). Question: do I have to put fresh bait in the trap daily, or will is last a few days? Thanks.
Question for ya I covered my chicken run completely in chicken wire and used 1 and 3/4 staples in to 2x4 super tight you think they can get in?
Man I use similar live trap last night it went off but for some reason he came out only thing I found is hair on entrance I wanna know is it really possible that he crawled under such tiny space?

thanks sam. just started my nusiance wildlife business great vid.

Dave C. Nope just set up in a corner in shed. They will smell it
Thanks for the reply Sam! I'll give it a try for sure
hey Sam I have problems with them reaching through the trap and taking the bait piece by piece so what do I do?
You can put a panel up in the back wall to prevent them from reaching through.
Awesome information... thanks!
In the state of Tennessee you have to check your traps every 36 hours and they mostly recommend live traps.
I dye all of them, never wax my conibears and usually only was my coyote traps
+Sam Wood Outdoors thanks Sam I love all of your videos and look forward to watching the rest!!
Hey Sam, do you take them out with a 22 or will a bb gun do?
My uncle told me you charged him $359 for two coons!
Is that expensive or fair? I have the same problem with a racoon here at my place..they are getting in the atic!😏
Poor Bambi was responding to the coon’s distress call😅
do you shoot in inside the trap and what kind of gun and ammo do you use?
Scott McCollum yes. A 22 cal pellet gun
Great video! Subscribed!
thanks Sam just bought alive trap to get rid of some. I have alarge wood pile along a fence .I,amwondering if they have ahome in there my dogs are always smelling over there. what do you think Sam . your video,s are super also.
they might but also might be a hollow tree or a rock pile the live dang near anywhere
What do you mean you almost hit a deer what was that big clunking noise?
What kind of insurance do you get for nuisance work? What company do you use? I'm in WI also
That darn deer. 😂 13:20
we want more NUSIANCE CONTROL VIDS!!!!!
That lake would be a great feeder bucket site.
great vid Sam

Id like to see you pet one, he will take your finger clean off
Lol
I have a "pet" raccoon when I was a kid. You still had to wear gloves to pet the little guy. Lol I don't recommend it.
great video.

I didn’t know they made that sound 😭
That sound means it getting pissed
Info on the raccoon traps,Please?
My coon has gotten out five times in a row and I can’t imagine how? Can another raccoon let him out? Just a standard Havahart but seems like no way he could get out???
I'm new and interested as I've just purchased the same
I was eager to try this tying the sardine to the back method, but I realized once I had the sardines that I can't reach far enough to tie it to the back. This method is for big/tall dudes only.
love your videos
9:47 that sound lmao
It sounds cute 😂
' I don't get many beaver calls'....... With your looks Sam? Say it ain't so!!
great video!
How much are the traps?
Tractor Supply has this same trap, they actually have a two trap bundle (one large trap like the one shown here and a smaller trap), my cost was right at $30.00
Ok thanks I think I might buy them
Hey I watched your video
I like it
Can you tell me how much for the small cage for squirrels
I have squirrels in my backyard
I am going to trap them and release back to the wild
I don’t like them
I don’t wanna shoot them
Please....... let me know if possible to sent me one
I’ll take care whatever the cost is
For squirrels only
🙏 sir
Wire mesh is not deep enough in the ground
Let it sit out for a day rubs some dirt on it stick a marshmallow in it and start stacking bodies .
10:35 i jumped like 10 feet in the air 🤣🤣🤣
lol same!
Sam Wood from Sam Wood's Outdoors .. hey buddy several months ago you said you were going to make a skunk trapping video. When's that coming?
a skunk has his tail down in a cage so he does not spray, I trapped several of them and released them near my neighbours lodge....
Were in Wisconsin sam I'm from janesville wisconsin ever been there
i have the same cleaning table your leaning on.
I even did the stick situation lol
The raccoon that is in my attic won't go for the sardines bait. I have a rope tied to the trap door to open it from a safe distance if it's caught. The thing is, the color and markings of the rope resembles a snake. I wonder if the rope is scaring it off. Does anyone know if raccoons are afraid of snakes? If they are, then I'll just buy a fake snake and hang it near the attic vent to scare it off.
so now you're going to dump the raccoon somewhere else and make someone else have to deal with it
did you not listen? he will "eliminate" the problem
LOL New subscriber here. From east Texas
well heck...might as well post a cooking recipe..
He has.
I have had luck tying a chunk of hot dog to the top of the cage, letting it dangle just above the bottom of the cage.
I get tons of different animal in my house and yard and I just patch up the hole, give them a scare and let them go. If you don't have any place for them to get in, you won't have this problem
I've found that a peanut butter sandwich with almond extract works really well for rodents
Dude... you don't seriously eat those things....
GuitarosaurusRex he's smart getting paid and food...:-)
funny how he throws the squirel cage
I caught a lot of coins just using dog food and maple syrup also some marshmallows and sardines
Similar= I use twist ties and meat bones plus put a 4x4 and 6x6 over end of trap so it cannot move. If he is docile I dump him off 20 miles away , if he is agressive I shoot him ! My chickens roam freely...
This raccoon is smarter than I am. He keeps steeling the bait and then goes and hides again.
this is great, tfs!
He'll be some fine eatin'
Do you have a email I can message you I have a raccoon problem
How do you tame a raccoon
There are a few techniques, my favorite is .22LR 🤷🏻♂️
Just kidding but in all seriousness the best way is to start with them as babies.
12:44 R.I.P. Harabme!
No more live traps I’m going 22 .
can u please do a video with your hounds
Can you put cat food in the cage
Heather Fultz The bastards love it just make sure you strap it down so they don’t reach in from the side n eat it all. Make sure to kill the ugly shits too!!!
I want to bring the differences in views between Canadians and Americans in wildlife protection in urban areas
