The second track on this album has Francesco Paoli, who is the frontman/guitarist (and now bassist since longtime founding member Paolo Rossi left this year) of Fleshgod Apocalypse. Fleshgod Apocalypse released a new song last week called "Pendulum". It was their first single since that HORRIBLE fall Francesco had while mountain climbing back in 2021.
I haven't jammed a lot of aborted so hopefully this will be a good place to start, I'm gonna play it right now. Also, I love the silly thumbnails, they're a lot of fun lol! Edit: Great stuff, I look forward to the review. Also, please give a suggestion as to what album by them I should listen to next:)
@@jamesgwarrior1981 Yeah, I agree. They are a bit deathcore, a bit brutal death metal and a bit mello death all at the same time and with very modern production. But I really dug the record, I definitely have to check some of the older ones out.
Your best bet to deep dive into Aborted is Goremaggedon. That record showcases everything they do. The Melo Death tag is very much way off. It's called Deathgrind, a hybrid of Death Metal and Grindcore You could also start that their very first record The Purity of Perversion and work your way to the new one The new album has some of the Deathcore flavor but to my ears it more when the guest vocals show up
I agree with what you guys are saying. How do you do these songs live with every song having a guest vocalists? I very much enjoyed this album, but after Lorna Shore blew up last year with " Pain Remains" a lot of Death Metal bands are starting to use this Symphonic element that I don't much care for in Death Metal. Leave that to Shadow of Intent and band like that because they just do it so well. Cheers guys for a great review 🤘😎🍻
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! From what I hear Sven's just going to do all the vocal parts live which he's more than capable. Yeah, I'm not big on the whole "symphonic deathcore" movement at all. I really didn't enjoy Pain Remains and outside of some of the stuff from Shadow of Intent I just can't get into the sound.
I admit this is my first time listening to a full Aborted record. Really enjoyed it, will probably have to go through the back catalogue. You guys should check out the new Defect Designer album on Transcending Obscurity. It's really weird death metal you guys would dig a lot.
Necrotic Nick- I've been a fan for years but I'd say just work your way backwards from this one and you'll probably find a ton more stuff you dig. They're very consistent. I'll have to check out Defect Designer. The last weird death metal act I checked out on Transcending Obscurity was Fathomless Ritual and it was awesome.
Just got through blasting this one boys and well, in the words of my Tennessee metal brother Zach Moonshine it's brutal as a fuck! 4 of 5 from me boys!
The album cover is Mortician worship lol. I did enjoy it though but nothing groundbreaking but that's okay . Y'all are right about the features they shouldnt be on every track but it would be cool if they brought Travis Ryan back for a feature.
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, that does look a lot like Hacked Up for a Barbecue lol. I like it but it really feels cluttered this time not only with the overuse of guest vocalists but the production itself. Sven definitely needed a few more dynamic guests like a Travis Ryan on here but overall it was still pretty damn good.
Retrogore is always going to be my favorite, but damnit if I haven’t loved everything Sven and the guys have released. Just enough nuance in a crowded genre for me to always look forward to a new release. Killer review, gents 🤘
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Man, that's a hard call on my favorite for Aborted but I do love Retrogore. They just a super consistent band overall and they really have their own sound. I also love their passion for horror and irreverence as well. They're just a fun band.
The math - rock guitar approach doesn't help decipher the overall cacophony either. It's difficult to identify any hooks or memorable chugs if there aren't any to start with. Just sayin'. Great channel. Keep up the great work..
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I get that it does get too busy for it's own good and the super dense production doesn't help in terms of making out the riffs on this one.
I was a big fan of Goremagedon and Engineering. I just can't get into their newer stuff for some reason. I can't really put my finger on it, but it seems like they're trying to fit in with the deathcore crowd. There's nothing really creative or interesting, it's just double bass and growls.
Necrotic Nick- There's a definite argument to be made there. I still think they're a death metal overall but a lot of their guests here lately seem more cut from the deathcore cloth. They've kinda had a similar gear with their albums since Global Flatline but this one feels really bloated with guests and really overproduced. Still, I enjoyed it for the most part but I definitely enjoy more of their past stuff.
Might be a dumb question, but how are you guys listening to the music, and at what volume? Headphones, speakers,.....? My ears aint what they used to be.
Necrotic Nick- Not a dumb question here at all. We have a really nice blue tooth speaker that we sit around and jam while taking notes. It's generally on a higher volume but we frequently pause it to talk about points we have about the album we're jamming.
Gonna blast this one later on and then come back with my rating and critique of it and then come back and see what y'all got to say and then I'll get to the Vltimas s tomorrow morning.
I agree a couple of weak tracks, I have to remind myself how much I love this band in general because listening to it its easy a 4.5 but up against albums like retrogrore and the necrotic manifesto maybe it's not their best. 4/5 though easy for me.
Necrotic Nick- It's still 100% Aborted but it's just bloated with guests and overproduction. It's still loaded with bangers though but sonically I'd take The Necrotic Manifesto of Retrogore over this one.

Necrotic Nick- Bare minimum: Aborted is always fun. I love their energy and their love of campy horror and ridiculous gore. I'm not sure how well that pairs with a steak and parsley salad but I'd give it a whirl lol. Sven is such an awesome dude. I've had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and the dude's a blast to talk to. I think he's down a good job bridging the gaps between death metal and deathcore but I think he may have overloaded with this one with too many guests and the overproduction got to be a bit much. Still, it's a solid album and there's once again some serious bangers on it.
Necrotic Nick- OK. That's Sputnik overall take. We don't think it's a bad album but we do think it's bogged down by guests. It's just our opinion though just as yours is that it's not bogged down by guests. To each their own.
@@thrallsofmetal no, that's a total of the fan reviews. If you understand the nature of the site that says a lot. Whether that stands overtime obviously has yet to be seen. Also, since when has it become that a collaberative effort by any band now is seen as a bad thing? That used to be the damn norm.
Necrotic Nick- I know it Sputnik is a review aggregator but again it's all subjective. It's opinions. In our opinion it was overloaded with guests and often guests that sounded a lot like Sven so they didn't stand out that much. That was our opinion therefore it's not an "objective measure" when it came down to the quality of the album. It's just something we personally didn't care for.
Necrotic Nick- We gave it a 3.5 which is a positive review... should it have a been a negative one? lol. Seriously though, taste is subjective. If this is higher or lower for you then that's how you feel about it. There's no wrong or right answer here since it's just an opinion.
@@thrallsofmetal ahah yeah sure, but we also can come around at some point. You should know by this point Aborted ain't fuckin around. I take aborted over cattle any day, and I have me fun with cattle as well.
Necrotic Nick- Any opinion can change over time. I could think this one is even better after more listens or I could think it's worse. Aborted is super consistent and always fun but I did have some issues with this one where, while it's not bad, it just doesn't hit as hard as past efforts. There's still some absolute bangers on this one but I don't think it'll unseat any of my favorite albums by the band at this point.
