I'm from St Louis and was a victim of the "knockout game" while walking home from work late one night in 2009. Walked past a group of black teenagers and as soon as they passed me one of them ran up and sucker-punched me. Woke up some time later bleeding from my mouth with a black eye. My liberal and leftist friends couldn't accept that I'd been the victim of a senseless attack because it didn't conform to the narrative that young black men are all helpless creatures unfairly maligned by the media. When I told them what happened they became uncomfortable and wouldn't say anything. Suffice it to say, I learned an important lesson about the dark side of white guilt after that.

I've lived in and around poor areas most of my life. I grew up poor. I grew up with other poor people who weren't super intelligent or special or anything. Not one person I've known my entire life has ever played the knockout game.
Economic conditions are not an excuse for a people's violent nature. Not having money doesn't force you to sucker punch complete strangers.
