    I always think of sugar bread in contrast to tea bread. Sugar bread is basically a sweet tasting white bread. Tea bread, if that is sold any more in Ghana, is basically a less sweet white loaf bread. I always think of these two as companions because at least back some 30 years ago, these were sold side by side by street hawkers. Don't know what the situation is like any more.

    My Grandma used to make rolls that had a sweeter than normal bread taste with a slight doughiness and at the same time sponginess, as a kid, I ate blocks of the things at one sitting , they were great with or without butter, but I never learned how make them.....I bet this bread is very tasty with the sugar, nutmeg and vanilla, and it's texture looks like grandma's bread.....gonna have to try it

    Omg.....I have been looking for a Sugar Bread recipe that is close my grandmother's Finnish Sweet Cardamom Recipe. I made 2 loaves of bread today....my arms are pooped...lol. But, I AM going to be making this bread for my husband, tomorrow! He will love it.
    My grandmother gave me her handwritten Cardamom Sugar Bread recipe before she died, in 2010. But I had a 5 rollover car accident soon, there after, and all my things were destroyed, along with her recipes.
    So, I have been looking for this type of recipe for a long time!
    Thank you! And God bless you!
    I am a new sub, and watched both of your Butter Bread recipes, which I will make in 2 days...after I make this bread! Lol 😊🍞💛
    Much love to you & your family!

    Greetings Nanaaba; my sister from Ghana! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. I tried it out for the first time today. I followed it to the letter and it came out fantastic! I havevtobtell you though that the first rising of dough I did for one hour and after shaping the dough and shaping into two logs I placed them into separate loaf pans (rectangular) and I proofed them for another 45 minutes as you instructed. They rose but not as high as I would have liked. They rose to 3/4 of the pans they were in and after I baked them for 35 minutes at 350 degrees fahrenheit they rose but still not even close to the rims. Perhaps I should have proofed them for at least an hour ir more the second time. In your video, the loaves rose well above the rims of the baking tin.
    Other than that they tasted great.
    Oh btw, I also baked Ghanian butter bread 3 times and each time they were flawless and also rised well above the rim. The butter bread recipes however were single loafed bread recipes. The common ingredient with both recipes was nutmeg.
    Could you also please tell me are they the same bread with different names or what are the differences? One love.

    • @NanaabasKitchen
      @NanaabasKitchen  5 лет назад +2

      Jamaican Wash, thank you so much for trying the recipes! The factors that directly impact proofing time vary vastly with temperature. It gets hot out here where I live a majority of the entire year and that can shorten the proofing time for me. I recommend adjusting the proofing time as needed based on the unique conditions where you are. It may require a longer proofing time for you and that’s certainly fine.
      Yes, the butter bread and sugar bread are similar in terms of flavor and taste except the sugar bread tends to be sweeter and the butter bread, more buttery, however, I adjusted the sugar amount in the sugar bread by using lesser amount, and also used less butter in the butter bread just my personal preference, and for health reasons. I hope this helps sis🙏🏾💕💕💕

      @@NanaabasKitchen Thank you sooo very much for your reply! You information helps me a whole heap! I live in USA in the north east and it gets really cold in the winter time and it is obviously much cooler than it is in Ghana. I think Ghana; like Jamaica and rest of Caribbean is tropical. I thought weather and climate had an impact. So I figured right that proofing time was longer because of that. Thank you so much for the info. I'll try thr recipe again and let you know how it comes out! More time.

    • @NanaabasKitchen
      @NanaabasKitchen  5 лет назад +1

      Sis, a tip you might find useful dear.... when I lived in the northeast USA a few years ago, I’d turn my oven on for 2 mins, and then turn it off, and proof my bread dough in it with the oven door partially open, propped with eg, a wooden spoon. One thing though, is it will proof so quickly you’d need a timer, to check/monitor every 10-15 mins. Try that sis. Hope this is helpful and please let me know if I may be of further assistance 🙏🏾💕

      @@NanaabasKitchen Hi. I tried again and got the same results. My breads didnt rise very high and still below the pan rims. I think I may use wvenvelopes of yeast. Aldo I had a wild thought of axding raisins to the bread. I know that sounds totally unorthodox and un-Ghanaian and un-African. Perhaps Im wrong but what do you think? Thank you. This is coming from a desparate brother who is trying to get the recipe right with some revisions.

    I finally tried this sugar bread recipe and its amazing only problem is trying to get my mum away from it cos she's dangerously close to finishing a loaf by herself. I also tried the wet version of puff puff and let's just say breakfast in my house was a chewy delight. Thank you so much Nanaaba your recipes are simple, delicious and lifesaving. Thanks again.
