We finally got a chance to get back out to the Drift mine through all of this heat and did some fantastic Placer mining in my Wifes drift ....PG ..PG.... Found a Monster Gold Nugget and looking for the 5 ouncers ..... and along the way we wanted to show you our new shaft sinking bucket to punch throw the sump and get all that Gold ....you can keep the Red Worms. Great Video Jeff......Could you talk about the Silver Reef found by John Kemple in Utah. He discovered a vein of silver in a sandstone. Its a very unique story....Thanks bud......
I saw a documentary of the silver reef just north of St. George. One day I’ll go to the museum there.
Maybe that’s the story with examples of silver going into fossilized wood. I remember somewhere someone said it’s possible to find fossilized wood that’s been replaced with silver or something. That truly would be amazing to see
Going down that inactive drift illustrated something scarier than spiders and Jeff’s potty: infrastructure costs. There must have been tens of thousands of dollars worth of lumber that’s locked in place and can’t be repurposed. Ground quality relative to timbering and other support systems must be a huge variable in profitability for a lot of mines.

We used to call un cemented sandstone Suger Sand. It's really Dangerous when it's above you and your roof bolts are driven into you have zero support slab city. Our ground was fractured with feet of sugar sand. Sometimes, the sugar sand would just run out of the ceiling.

My Grandfather was a rock hound - had all kinds of rocks - I am glad I found this channel - very educational - you have taught me things I didn't know - for one there was still so much gold out there
I bought a rock collection from an estate sale for $5. Found +/- 4 oz of gold loaded up in quartz. It's still extracting. Nugget #1 10g, so far.
I bought a bunch of his mining tools too. His kids had no idea he was into gold prospecting. They said he was a rock hound.
What's amazing to me is that all of the pictures of the old timers they sure don't look like they work so hard and work so long. They look like average guys

The .gov is aggressively closing down prospecting out East and we don’t have mining claim laws to protect us. Any advice and help you can give? Prospectors/miners MUST support each other and not be those fence sitting it doesn’t affect me weasels..cough Canada cough cough.
How is the government closing down prospecting back east when it’s private land? Also doesn’t a lot of that land have mineral rights given to the land owner?
The west is also being closed. Biden just locked up like a million acres north of the Grand Canyon. I’m honestly surprised the democrats or environmentalists haven’t passed a bill to actually make national parks and monuments in every state east of Colorado. I remember when I lived in Delaware and was honestly shocked at the small state park and that the federal government hasn’t made massive monuments or national parks there. There was tons of new cities and roads and development as people moved to Delaware from New Jersey. Crazy how the west is locked up even more and nothing is being locked up or “conserved” back east. Like the massive forest in New York I always thought was a national park but I looked it up and it’s not
Also didn’t Congress pass a bill to support mining of critical minerals or something? It was a few years ago and it could be virtue signaling. It seems the US may be wanting more mining in Canada and Australia but not the U.S. cause I think some money was to go to finance mines in other countries which is kind of absurd cause it’s like not promoting mining in the U.S. but politics are worried about finding new supply chains that’s in the west

There are a lot of mine safety rules that you could say are written in blood. I've noticed they wear reflective vests underground. That tells me they're "sticking to the letter of the law" or rather mining regs.

Ya gotta wonder what source was upstream back then. Doesn't look like the gold traveled very far, compared to most I've seen. The blue sheen to the heavies made me think of the Comstock, so I didn't try to lose all the "black" sands. Also, just to be thorough, soaked the caliche chunks in white vinegar for a few days to dissolve as much as possible, in case there were any flakes there. There weren't! Maybe you need to improvise one of those rotary rock gougers they use for tearing out softer stuff, no clue WTF they call 'em. One of these days you'll find where the real river of gold runs.

I won a Cold War mistake panel that has 32 lips of gold! That’s my prospecting lol I’ll have to send off to see how much gold. Good way to get silver and gold is online auctions! Course you have to pay top dollar usually, but with the price of gold/ silver going up, not a bid investment!!

Like those hard hats, jeff with the rim all the way round wore one for 30 years that rim may save your nose or an ear one day from a rock .those rock climbing hard hats have very little protection, and makes me laugh.when I see people wearing them 😅

I wish there was gold in NE. Ohio all we have that iam aware of is coal lots of and Natural gas and oil its a real shale of a Paradise real porous totally for real unstable Mable and lots of acidic runoff from these previously used mines. Nice work as always Jeff Williams you are always giving and you may give away gold but the real value here is his knowledge of geology and his willingness to offer it and teach others this real value and his experience to pass along to the other generation this is the true value of a person who likes to influence and share his passion thank you
Would a strong shop vac be of use in picking up you muck, maybe not monster chunks but the anything that will fit in the hose. Have it dump out into the ore cart.

I went to Lake Superior yesterday to a old port in a huge bay that gets constantly hit by huge waves. Pushes huge rocks up on shore. Makes a mountain that has to be pushed back in. The surrounding cliffs are sand with trees, dirt on top a 100 ft tall being eaten away by the lake. Full of gold. In Wisconsin. I found a lot of meteors. You can pan there but no sleuth boxes. Or digging up the bank or streams. You can shovel in the middle of the stream or on the lake shore. Cant encourage erosion by altering the bank. Those meteors are cool Jeff 🤠 i found a lot of them. The lake washes them up.
Hey I just thought of something you should try to get the worms out. Get a couple copper stakes and wire them up to a battery with a voltage regulator so you can turn it up. Then stake the stakes in the ground and hook up the battery to see if that electricity brings them to the surface.
