SX91 was one of the best ski boots ever made. Skied in those for a decade! Bring it back!

Very happy to see this video, I was 18 years old when i bought my SX91 boots here in Belgium/Europe, and am now 62...and still skying with the same boots. When i entered ski shops in Austria, and they see the boots, its like vintage, whoaa unbelievable. The cloth however of the boots is wearing off entirely, and am just wondering if i can buy new inner boots for them ?? I can not stress out enough how comfortable these boots are, and even more importantly, it takes me literaly 2 minutes to put them on, and am then waiting for another 10min until the others are ready...LOL. Great job Salomon. If ever i would need new ones (which i doubt..), i want exactly the same model..

Best ski boot ever. Skied an SX 90 and never understood, why the industry returned to buckles. The additional weight at that time due to double plastic layers isn‘t an issue with lightweigt modern plastics. Most touring boots and also Boa are only an optimisation of the initial SX 90 concept.

very interesting info/I hadn't skied in over 20 years and just skied again on my Salomon SX80 white boots. They've always been very comfortable - ion the 1980's and now in 2023.

Thanks Phil and Jim. I was lucky to do some dealer, pre-release intro events for Salomon back in the day. I was honored to win a pair of SX90E at a Spring race in Mammoth at the trade fair. That same Spring, previous to the intro, Salomon set up boot fitting vans at the Heavenly Valley Base, outfitting the celebrities with the new SX90's at the John Denver Celebrity Pro Ski Race. I got to help fit Clint Eastwood in his SX90E's. Me being more of a power skier, than a finesse skier, I loved the support of the SX90E, but once the SX91E and the wonderful SX92E I was in carving heaven. I still ski Salomon Skis, Boots and Bindings, but I miss the SX92E! Thanks for the great memories!

Fits like a mitt. Skis like a glove ! I loved my SX 90 and later on, the SX 90 equipe boots. the latter of the two were almost as stiff as the skis of that era.

Thanks for this fun video and the run down memory lane.
Skiied in those boots for almost a decade! The women's boot.. they were gray. They were responsive and comfortable. I have massive calves and haven't had a boot that comfortable since those. Bring them back!

What a great flashback to the history of these legendary ski boots! 👍 It would interesting to know what killed those rear entry boots. Those are so easy to step in and step out (compared to ordinary boots with buckles).

The bad rear entry boots brought the good ones down. We have been pushing for years for Salomon to bring an SX back to the market.

I recently skied Alta in Utah, and took my SX91s into the rental shop. They said they couldn’t fit a ski to the boot! I had rent new boots (rear entry Nordicas which weren’t as good as mine)

While you might not have liked them , I think you have them confused with many many other boots that were really bad. ;)

I still ski on my SX61 from the 80's, with a pair of SX91E as a backup. I don't need that extra flex adujustment anyway. I simply can't find another model with a better heel grip. I prefer them all the time over my third pair of boots, a modern front entry Dolomiti racing model, which takes about forever to step into.
