Remember from the old days Gilley's in Pasadena when I worked thrre as a Bartender What a Great Joy from way back then I just 81& I still love watch & Listen to him Sing & play.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😢
I saw Jerry Jeff in the 70'S at a place called Dooleys in Tempe Arizona. He was so drunk he sang a couple songs then left the stage, I was pissed at the time but looking back it's now a great story!
Ladies and gentlemen, a part of Texas just died today. And all real Texans will shed a tear and tip a beer to the memory of Jerry Jeff. God bless you, Son! You've earned your rest and you served Texas well. RIP, Cosmic Cowboy! Rest in peace!
Uhhhmm he was from upstate NY, specifically Oneonta... That would make him a Yankee. You Texans are funny people, not sure what they told you in school.... 😀
@@jonathansheehan3121 Not a matter of where he was born but how and where he chose to live his life, Sir. His life and his music was 100% Texas, and if you paid any attention at all, then you would understand instead of being pedantic.
I know, 09findourn ~ This is bitter sweet for me. Sorry I missed allll those years, but dang! So much fun discovering him now. What a GREAT entertainer .. and NICE person! Bless his heart! xxxxooo
I TOTALLY forgot this song...we used to sing it at the top of lungs back in the seventies...lol...as soon as this ends I am finding Pissin in the Wind!
Inspired by seeing Jerry Jeff a bunch of times in the early 70's my rock band has played this song every gig since 1974. We'll be playing it tomorrow night. God bless Jerry Jeff Walker.
When I first fell in love with JJ Walker's music, I was 32. I am now 52, and my chances to see him live or meet him grow dimmer. But it sure feels good to see the live performances, especially the Greune Hall ones. I spent 3 years of my life listening to this man every day and it has been a sweet, hard 24 hours of listening to him again. He always brought out the deepest emotions in me...
I have been enjoying this tune for so many years I cannot remember... Saw J J Walker in NYC and in Houston way back when. Love LA Freeway and London Homesick Blues they are on my top 100 best tunes! T is for Texas!!! yeah!!!!
1983 Austin Your Birthday Bash. My husband and I had a Great time. One of the best times ever. He went home in 2008 May with the Lord. I will never forget.
This Vid is so funny. When Jerry Jeff changes his voice to do the "M O T H E R" words (mud flaps, oil on his hair, etc.) it cracks me up every time I watch it. And, the turkey gobble ...? This man has a BLAST doing his "work". Watching this vid, to me, is like a shot of B12. It dries me wild, no matter how many times I watch it. GREAT! Long live JJW, and his great friends.
Well Jerry....memorys of Miami n criteria studio..coconut grove..Jimmy buffet..sure was some fine days..always believed you went to a better place..R I P..🙌
Yes, 09findhorn .... one treasure find after the other ... ContrarytoOrdinary's are good, and BRod313 have done such a great job of sharing these JJW vids. They hold-ya-over until you can start collecting. Vkz0 ... everyone can have a blast watching, looking up lyrics and ... SINGING ALONG! This has been a RIOT for me discovering JJW's unique craft! Yaaaahhhhhh Hoooooo! ;)
I saw that 70s show episode and had to find this song because it sounded familiar. It's the same song I heard the Good Brothers rock the Doc's in Belleville in the early 80s. Good fun.
Hey now,, taint nuttin wrong with hippies! We supported him in the 70,s! I have seen him MANY times, living in Oklahoma, LOL And , Yes I was, born and bred in Oklahoma. :-)
I put this song on my list of songs that could fit in with a Darren Shan story because I thought it would describe the acrimonious relationship Steve and Brenda had, and I thought it would also describe Tony Morris, Alan Morris' brother, because Tony has older men get him alcoholic drinks in bars, and he's also a bully like the man in the song is.
@4zeichen I hope you can too !!!!! Welcome to the USA my friend. I live in OKLAHOMA, next door to TX but.. if ya want to have a great time.. OKLAHOMA!! TX isnt bad either. We like beer. LOL Hving one now. :-)

+jesse black I moved from California to Texas after getting out of the Marines in 1980, 25 years old and full of piss and vinegar. I wanted to see for myself what all of my Marine Corps brothers were talking about their home state of Texas. I worked the oil fields for 3 years and was introduced to Wild Turkey liquor, Lone Star and Shiner beer. I lived around La Grange, Texas. I ran into one of my Marine Corps brothers from Smithville, he recognized me while I was working on a construction job. Met my future ex-wife and the mother of children there. We used to go to Austin on the weekends, I loved that place. This song was my personal anthem. Just reminiscing.
Well, Matthew's done good but I know of very few Texicans who will pass ANY bar... LaGrange, Broken Spoke or the Dew Drop Inn. Back when I was the Head Bouncer for awhile at the Little Bear Saloon up in Evergreen, Colorado in the 70's, I used to have to sometimes keep our Texican visitors a little more closely under control as our mile and a half higher altitude seemed to make them more conducive to the effects of their alcohol consumption. I wonder how my old friend from Red River, Ray Wiley Hubbard is doing these days... him with Three Faces West and we both were Mountain Tours Drivers for the Red River Tours, though Ray was out there a year before me. But I didn't have a Jeep named for me for running off a switchback and down 17' into a waterfall pool like Ray did. (I made certain to keep my Jeep full of tourists on the Middle Fork Trail... closed by the Forestry Service the year after I left). Fun times. Easier times. Mellow times and the Grandfather Times of Red Dirt Music.
I don't think most people get the message Ray Wylie Hubbard was trying to convey when he first wrote this... Check out Hubbard's MusicFog version of "Screw You, We're from Texas", you'll see what I mean. He wrote the song after getting beat up in a cowboy bar in West Texas... Look up one of the live Hubbard versions of OATWRM for the full story
@4zeichen Texas rules! If you visit, go to the "hill country" region. Very beautiful, hills, rivers, etc. Austin, San Antonio and the southern coast, towards Mexico. I lived there most my life and for a visitor, I suggest these areas.
MR Crosby please come home to Oneonta we'll have a beer at the palms or jerrys or city hall .....and then RALLY AT THE TALLY HO............remember Lora Boone ?
