    But this is like the first and last episode of tenant. Of course he would have a different perspective when he was said new man then when he's starring down his own death

    Rule 1: The Doctor lies

  • @CyberNerd797
    @CyberNerd797 10 лет назад +8

    At the start of his new life, The Doctor is very much the same man with a new face. He has just popped into the world. The only thing he had was his memories of, you guessed it, himself with different faces. At that moment, that's the person he knew he was. He didn't have anything else to go on. He hadn't discovered who he was and what kind of a person he was. And it is true that he was the same man, he was that person and he did do those things and lived those moments. Besides, how else would you explain time lord regeneration to someone who had no idea what it was? Not only was Rose new to it but so was everyone else. Well, maybe except the Sycorax. And at the very end with that conversation with Wilfred, he was about to basically die. And he didn't want to die, he wasn't ready to leave which was evident by his final words. In the eyes of the new regenerations they are the same man because they were that person and had lived that life but for a Doctor about to regenerate a person who he has never met is about to take his place in the world and he is about to stop existing. Basically he was about to die. Doesn't it seem a bit like someone is about to take his I.D. and TARDIS and go and live his life. In other words, " some new man goes sauntering away and I'm dead." PEOPLE SAY DIFFERENT THINGS IN DIFFERENT PERIODS OF THEIR LIFE AND UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM NOT TRUE. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONTRADICTION AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. HE'S A CHANGED MAN IN EXPERIENCE AND POSITION (IN TERMS OF NEWLY REGENERATED AND REGENERATING), AND IT WOULD SEEM RIGHT THAT HIS WORDS AND PERSPECTIVES HAVE CHANGED TOO. AND THAT LAST SENTENCE IS BASICALLY WHAT DOCTOR WHO IS ABOUT.

    I'll concede that the matter of The Doctor's regeneration is... well, to use the Ninth Doctor's words, "a bit dodgy." It's worth noting the context, however; the "same man, new face" part was 1) an effort to be reassuring (who doesn't try to put a bold face on things for someone else's benefit at some point?), 2) from the perspective of someone who was just starting out his turn at existing. On the other hand, the other line came from someone who was at the end of his life, which tends to bring out some pretty grim realism in just about anyone. Also, he was talking to a retired soldier, who would better understand the fear of death.

    Well, The Doctor was Lord President of Gallifrey for a while way back when so it would make sense that his politics is a bit off.

    As much as I love the Critic, wasn't there 4 years in-between this line of dialogue... Don't you think that would make a difference?

    (ATTENTION FANGIRLS/BOYS WHO FEEL THAT THIS RUINED DOCTOR WHO. I have something to say on the matter. * dons geeky logic glasses *)
    While the contradiction doesn't make sense in an objectively logical and story-wise consistency...sense, (my grammar fails in that statement, but I hope you get what I mean) you have to admit that it would be terrifying to think that you'll soon be unwillingly forced into altering your personality, opinions, likes/dislikes, etc. all in a few moments. I mean, that happens over time, yeah, but you can resist it for a while; remember your personality from ten years ago, if you were alive ten years ago, then imagine you became the person you are in the blink of an eye. Oh sure, you're technically the same person, and there will be similarities, but the difference is very drastic, all the same. It's a terrifying thought, in my opinion. And who knows: maybe in ten years I won't think so at all.
    So, in conclusion to this brief...thing, I think it's the Doctor's freaking out that made him say that. (Also the writers, but we're talking in-story.) He can't help but feel like he's dying, like he won't exist anymore. And, in a way...he's right. Ish. The 11th Doctor is so DRASTICALLY different in the first few moments of his lifetime that you'd think he really was replaced with someone else; he seems to have forgotten how upset he'd been moments before, how terrified. It's like the idea that he wouldn't be the same man carried over for a while.

    • @darkvoid9329
      @darkvoid9329 9 лет назад +1

      DarthRushy not really. he was saying they were more dangerous than ever when they were insane. and then was commenting the true dalek empire was at the height of its power. the insane ones were still more dangerous but the true dalek empire they faced was at the height of its power not more powerful than ever.

    • @DarthRushy
      @DarthRushy 9 лет назад

      aran carr-brown Well if the insane ones were meant to be more dangerous, how come they couldn't get into the TARDIS as if those wooden doors were just... wood? INCONSISTENT.

      DarthRushy nope the full empire could do one thing the insane ones couldn't. stop looking for problems when there aren't any.

    The Doctor is saying that face is dead, and a new face goes sauntering away. But his personality is the same, his memory's are the same, everything The Doctor has previously done, he did it, because he is still the same Doctor!!! so, as much as I adore Nostalgic Critic, he's wrong. Some may not agree, that's fine, to me. But other, more violent Whovians, May go all hostile. So if you have a bad opinion around a violent Whovian, for your sake, keep it to yourself. FANGIRLS ARE DANGEROUS!!!

      His personality isn't the same. It changes too. The only thing that really stays are his memories and devotion to helping others. Try paying more attention next regeneration.

    *Worst Doctor Ever.* In fact, I refuse to call him the Doctor. To me, he's the Valeyard. After The Stolen Earth he's between his Twelfth and final regenerations. He broke the promise to never be cruel or cowardly, never give up and never give in. He's not the Doctor anymore, and yet he doesn't want to go. The coward.
    At least his next regeneration redeemed himself. The Valeyard even admits to the War Doctor that War was *"More the Doctor more than anyone else."*
    I have no idea how things that are popular get that way....

      Jamey Hedgehog The Doctor has been a coward many times in many incarnations, I don't see the big deal.
      The Doctor such a multifaceted persona that his cowardice only adds to the great character that he is.
