FAB defense makes one that mounts to the bayonet lug. Maybe not the best for long strings of fire, and a little odd of a position, but it's an option.

Midwest Industries has a front sight rail that clamshells on and is rock solid. running it for years, gets the light a little farther forward and no shift in zero. 33$ on some sites google the model number MCTAR-01G2

FAB Defense makes a polymer picatinny rail for the AR handguard also, $15. I've used mine for nearly 10 years.

I opted for the traditional handguard as well. Heat was the driving factor. My choice for mounting accessories was a pic rail handguard length ( mounted at the bottom) as i wanted to be able to mount a light, same setup you showed just left side as I'm a lefty, and a bipod or vertical handle. I used Amazon products with stainless hardware from my local ACE. A little blue loctide and voila, everything works very well. I can reach the light switch, and yes on / off only is my preference too (blinking and flashing blablabla just makes me dizzy lol), when the handle is installed. Good video, thanks for sharing. If i may, can you consider publishing a presentation about shooting techniques free standing and how to accomplish best results? Thank you.👍

@@PsychedelicWinter110 They were an excellent design....yes......I'll have to disagree on quality of the aluminum they used......Maybe I just got a bad couple of thorn tail light mounts for my AK.....I had 2 of them snap at the threads in the same spot.....They were able to replace the first and when the 2nd snapped that's when I found out about the owner passing......I do want to say they sent me a new thorn tail for free.....When 2 break on me I'll stop using that product until QC does it's job......RIP to the owner I'm sure he would have done the QC check..!!!!!!!

I have done exactly like you show for the second option.. Most of my rifles have the standard round handguard and I actually prefer the smaller diameter but I put a short piece of magpul rail at the 10 o-clock position and use a 1-in scope ring to clamp a flashlight onto that rail which puts it right in front of my left thumb. Works great and was inexpensive.

After dealing with a number of tape switches that stopped working, I switched to the more simplistic light setup like you’re running. I bought a couple of those Magpuls when they first came out and used them on issue carbines with quad rails. They worked great. Still using one minus the rings on a personal with a free float quad to mount a Scout Light 600L that I wouldn’t have otherwise bought except that the price was too right. Activating the Scout with the butt cap switch. The Magpul mount pits the light at the right height and sufficiently far enough foreword to establish a good support hand position. I’d never realized the hand guards were double heat shielded. After going with free float quads, I was a bit irritated to find that the hand guard get pretty hot closer to the gas block making gloves a necessity for anything more than a few rounds. Having watched your previous video, I now wonder how much of a difference the free float really makes when trying to make small, tight groups at 100 from a supported position.

I already have the IWC mount on a DSA AR that I installed years ago. I love it. I had a second one on backorder for the past six months and cancelled that in favor of Reid's 1913 rail plus MagPul mount solution. Important: if you go this route, make sure you buy 15mm Long M5 T-nuts and black 1/2" flathead 10/32 machine screws as well! The T-nuts that come with the rail segments are way too small to cross the entire vent hole and engage the handguard. If you are using the quick release mount that comes with the Surefire Scout, the MagPul rings and ring base should be removed. If you decide to use the MagPul rings, the Surefire quick release mount must be removed. Either choice is valid to your personal needs and preference.

I always switch out my round hand guards that use an A-pillar gasblock with a Midwest Industries mlok or an extended magpul mlok handguard.... I've pretty much switched over to low profile gas blocks anyway for longer mlok handguards to eliminate as much barrel shadow possible, especially when shooting suppressed. LWRC currently make my favorite DI & piston operated rifles.

On a non-free-floated barrel, the shooter has more effect on barrel harmonics than anything else. There are picatinny rail-mounts for the front-sight-post that work well.
If you want to shoot good groups with your rifle, brace off the front of the magazine-well without touching the fore-end on anything at all. What you brace against has a lot to do with it too, the more rigid the better; i.e. something immoveable like concrete or steel imbedded in the ground.

Thanks Reid. Love new stuff. Love old stuff. Know what works best for you. Leave the bells and whistles behind, you really don't need them. If a product has been improved and works better for you, be open minded. But don't scoff at older stuff... its been dealing death since before you started life. Respect it. Have a basic knowledge of how to use it all, but train mostly with your setup.
