Been a fan for over 50 years. I know just about all dialogue of the show. Did not notice this, and also didn't notice Lebeau crossing his fingers in the heil salute in one episode, until this channel. THANKS!!
An entire sound stage popped up in the background by season 6. If there had been a 7th, it would need to be explained. Possibly as secret factory placed next to camp to prevent it from being bombed or a new Luftwaffe HQ.
As I have commented before, back in the 60's when there were filmed, the poor resolution of tv would have made this a non-visible issue. All that you would be able to make out in that shot was some sort of dark background. But now, with HD tv's and the rescanning of the source films we can now see all of these details. (I actually have 3 episodes, 16mm television prints from the series, including the blank white film used to cue up for commercials. )
I beleive this is a bit of an exaggeration. While television technology was not what it is to-day, someone viewing a well aligned 21" color television of the era would be able to see a bit of the greenery off to the side. However, by the time the viewer thought something might be off, the scene would change, and they wouldn't see it again, likely brushing it off.
I couldn't believe that Rick would expect that any of us would think they went to Germany to film this show. That'd be like thinking they went into space to film Lost in Space. 🤨
There's an episode where Hogan and the heroes are supposed to be looking at a German gate entrance to a rocket base I believe, and you clearly see the parking lot and 1960's cars parked.
With the fence gone, they should have done a crossover, where one of the Heroes escapes and somehow wanders into the home of The Petries from The Dick Van Dyke show. “Look dear, an escaped POW! Oh Rob!!!” 😂🤣 (get it? both shows filmed at Desilu?) Ok, Rick I can hear your Desi Arnaz impression now, “Ay Carumba”. 🙄 Good video!
The Dick Van Dyke Show was shot on a soundstage at Desilu Cahuenga in Hollywood. The interiors of Hogan's Heroes were shot at Desilu Melrose (which later became part of Paramount). The exteriors were shot at Desilu 40 Acres in Culver City.
I had not noticed that before. What always amused me was how some episodes have what looks like a disguised semi-trailer next to Klink's office to act as a wall, blocking the camera's view of what lay beyond.
As I have stated before (many times). Those of us who were around when this show originally aired on primitive tube televisions with poor reception/resolution, would have never noticed that kind of detail. Heck, most of the time we were lucky to get fairly good reception on our sets with only rabbit ear antennas.
LOL Oh the fun days of watching TV it was a full time job just to put the TV on it took a minute or 2 to warm up and crossed your fingers the TV did start select your channel you wanted to watch only a few channels back then adjust your rabbit ears and hopefully the reception was good
one of my favorites is 'Art For Hogan's Sake', where they have to go to Paris to have the painting of Monet's The boy With The fife redone, but Hogan still has the original and hides it till after the war
My favorite episodes included the ones with Nita Talbot as Marya, the Russian spy. She played that character so well. Also, when Carter impersonated German high ranking officers. His accent was right on.
I never noticed that blooper Rick. Hogan's Heroes is my favorite classic TV program. I've seen every episode multiple times. My favorite episodes are, "Swing Shift", "The Flame Grows Higher", "The Schultz Brigade", and "Sargent Schultz Meets Mata Hari". I always look forward to your Hogan's Heroes videos. Thanks
Anytime the background has oddly parked trucks and / or tarpaulins, it is to cover camera overshoot. More prevalent in later seasons. Klink's office exterior also doubled as his living quarters exterior and VIP quarters with that being on the back side. Lots of floor space for such a small exterior footprint. It is almost as if Klink's building is a TARDIS.
They also used the Hogans Heroes Set for an episode of the early series of Mission Impossible where they get a prisoner out of the camp. In a few of the scenes they show, the front gate and the cars sitting in the background as they go thru it, another scene they are behind Klinks office and show the end of the front fence.
Never noticed this at all, and I've watched it many (like dozens) of times. But in my defense of being unobservant, the other non-Heroe prisoners also didn't notice or they would have fled the coop!
Back then TV was not as good as it is now. So they never thought there would be people sitting around with high clarity TV and the ability to stop shows and watch them repeatedly looking for bloopers. So they probably didn't consider missing fence a problem.
Loved the episode where the Germans think the war is ending and Klink is humbled when Schultze tells him that he owns the most famous toy company in Germany.😂😂😂😂
The transmitted shows on the Tv TUBES of that era didn’t have the clarity to even see if there was a fence there. I lived in those times and I’ve watched those shows now on the new HD flat screens and seen things like seems in set walls, dirt on the floors etc ,that the film picked up but was not visible on those tvs.
In future episodes, that area becomes the motor pool set. Also, there is a cantina facade built behind Klink's office that doubled for the rec hall. (Just below the 19, on the aerial image) It is the same type of facade like the one in the bottom right of the aerial image.
Again, and I've pointed this out many times, the area you're highlighting most likely was covered up by the ''overscan'' area of the TV screens. The overscan area of the screen is where the frame of the unit would cover the portion around the edges of the picture tube. The only way the complete picture would have been seen back in those days is if the picture tube were completely exposed by either pulling it out of the TV or removing the frame around the tube. I've been working in television and video production since the early 90s and, in those days, we had to frame our shooting and editing around the ''safe area'' of the screen. Today, we have flat screen monitors that allow us to see the entire image side-to-side and top-to-bottom, which is great. So, these 'bloopers' you catch that are the edges of the screen were probably never seen on our screens back in the day.
I know from your previous videos there were several shots showing the lot's water tower. But I don't see them as MeTV crops the top and bottom to fill 16x9 format.
What's even crazier is if you go back to the shot in this video that shows Shultz holding his rifle, you can see the trees in the background look like palm trees. Definitely California type trees.
I have a friend and we both agree that Hogan's Hero's is the most accurate depiction of pow life ever filmed! From it always being winter to tunnels to having all the different ways of spying on the germans. Wacky hijinks for all!😅

I’ve never “closely” watched Hogan’s Heros. I probably watched this episode the 1st time it aired. I’m willing to bet no one noticed this back then. Analog TV’s, no way to replay. You had to hope you remembered to look for something you never saw or knew to look for when HH was in summer reruns.

Can't remember the episode but Hogan and Klink are standing in front of the camp blueprint which depicts a much, much larger camp. As I recall, Hogan is trying to convince Klink to relocate some guards, but it backfires and Kink doubles the guard.
Smaller screen, lower resolution analog television, and tight production budgets. Add in that they weren't planning on these running in HD for decades after their creation. Initial broadcast with sponsors and summer rerun with sponsors was considered a "success" by all concerned.
There is what I think is a blooper in the opening credits: when hogan and the other heroes are standing in front of the barracks, watch the eyes of the black actor behind hogan on the right (not Kinch). When "Bob Crane" flashes on the screen, it appears that the extra behind Crane shoots a look at the camera. It's only a split second, but seems odd. It's there in every episode, LOL. 2:41 and 2:51 they also caught the palm trees in the background. Pretty sure they don't have those in Germany.
Yeah, they make an appearance in several episodes. Most not as obvious as those.
Good catch.
Also, they are very green for being in winter.

@@Frankie5Angels150 Maybe they went to take Stanley Kubrick to check out places to film the moon landing.
It's amazing what they could do in such a small space. I just count these small bloopers to it being a TV show and not a movie. Take care.
Movies have even more bloopers than TV shows haha
You must remember that anything outside the frame seen in the camera’s viewfinder DOESN’T EXIST as far as the film is concerned.
There's an episode where Hogan and the heroes are supposed to be looking at a German gate entrance to a rocket base I believe, and you clearly see the parking lot and 1960's cars parked.

"War Takes a Holiday" is my favorite episode.
Favorite episodes- Hogans Hofbrau, Klink-v-the Gonculator and The Tiger Hunt 1&2…
My favorites are with Ruta Lee or Arlene Martel. They were beautiful.

I just watched the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion, filmed outdoors in Culver City. Gorgeous views!
So, that wasn't Nazis in the classic Star Trek episode, Patterns of Force, it was just extras from Stalag 13.😂
actually, if they escaped they would have walked into Mayberry. both outdoor sets were just a stones throw from each other.

Heck, the shows set in much closer places like Illinois, Arizona , or Georgia are filmed in California.
I never noticed it. Thanks Rick.
Great one Rick....Lucy and Desi had forty acres in the heyday of the shows there.....have a great weekend!
One of the bloopers that I find is that they built those steps out of gold and we never saw them again. They only appear in that one single episode.
