It was a perfectly sunny day in Lafayette, Indiana, and Tila Marshall, mother of four, decided it was a good time to do some garden work. She went to her backyard and got down to tending the flowers, leaving her 19-month-old daughter Emily with her older brother. In the meantime, Robert Mohr and Rod Lindley were sitting in the cab of a locomotive making its slow but steady way through the flat Indiana landscape. When the locomotive rounded the curve, Lindley noticed something small on the tracks just a few hundred feet away.

This almost made me cry
There was a similar story a few years ago about a teenager walking down a railroad track with her back to an approaching, braking train. She could not hear its 110 Db air horns because she was deaf. The conductor tackeled her from the locomotive's steps and knocked her clear of the train just before it was about to hit her. The locomotive's pilot (plow) struck the conductor in the head, but he survived. The girl was unharmed.
