- Hydraulic 3rd Function Comparison - Hydraulic Diverter Vs Dual Rear Remotes on a Compact Tractor
In this video I compare options for running third function hydraulics for a tractor grapple. I prefer the Artillian Diverter Kit over using the rear remote hydraulic ports.

At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

Great explanation on why the diverter kit setup is better!
Summit hydraulics has the 3rd function diverter kits on sale for 500. Everything but hoses it looks. I just got a 3032 yesterday, pushed a bunch of snow with it and loving it.
They are great tractors
I’m using my rear remotes as my third function. I’d like to get an actual third function or an additional remote one of these days.
That is what I’ve been doing the last 6 months.
It gets the job done but there is room for improvement
Good info. I wouldn’t be able to operate by joystick with the left hand. I like my diverter kit.
Definitely
Very good comparison and information. Thanks.
IMO, I agree there's nothing wrong with additional ports. Options are a good thing!
Someday you'll run into a situation when you'll have to use those ports and it'll confirm your choice.
Thanks
Good video Brock, Man it would just be easier and less headache if John Deere would just make Third function and rear remotes standard....
Definitely
I keep hearing that they are going to release it but still waiting
My dealer is adding the WR Long true third function as part of my 2032r order, rolled into the financing. As good as a factory option in my opinion.
I think It is basically the same as the artillian kit In that a button on the loader joystick diverts hydraulic flow
Yes and no. It has a new joystick handle, kind of t-shaped, with two buttons on the side for your thumb. They electrically operate hydraulic valves, yes, but they don't divert an existing function, they are plumbed inline like your rear remotes, so you -should- be able to operate lift, curl, and clamp all at the same time, subject to the typical flow limitations of these tractors. Mine is supposed to ship from Augusta in early March, then dealer will assemble everything so I'm expecting delivery towards the end of March, otherwise I'd make a video. Waiting is so hard ... Thanks for doing this, love your videos
I hope you’re right.
I’ve watched several videos on that kit and I’m pretty sure it’s a diverter. A Guy With A tractor has an metal video on it
I could be wrong though
Thank you excellent video easily understood and definitely appreciated
Thanks for watching
GREAT VIDEO!! thanks for your input!!
your channel is AMAZING! ✨ !
Thanks
I'm curious I thought one of those switches on the fender allows continuous flow. if so- could you run a diverter off the rear hydraulics?
I do not believe that either of those levers provides a continuous flow, and as far as I can see if you’re going to add a diverter you might as well put it on the loader controls rather than the rear
What you don't see much is that you can use make or buy a mechanical diverter valve it's not a streemlined but it does the job no electric to hook up or solinoids to go bad .
Interesting. I’ve demonstrated a couple different brands of electric diverters on the channel but I have not seen the mechanical diverters
@@RockhillfarmYT check out tractor innovations, Andy is great .
There is no real solution other than a 3rd function for a grapple. Anyone trying to just save money will spend more in the end.
True factory third function didn’t exist for these tractors until just a couple of months ago so basically everyone Who has these models is using some type of work around
For some people that may be a dealer installed kit like the WR long kit or a diverter valve But it is still a workaround
I ran my Grapple hydraulics from the rear remote hydraulic ports for several months and that worked really well and was actually cheaper since I was getting those ports anyway
Later I installed an Artillian Diverter kit so that I have the button on the joystick for my grapple control
I kept the hard lines on my loader that run back to the rear hydraulics.
I Also have a hydraulic splitter that runs off the diverter so I actually have three different ways I can run a third function. That comes in handy since I have a dual clamp grapple
