It's not being ruthless if you straight up lied about offering your goalie a contract, that's just straight up being an asshole. Maybe this should be enough to take his Hall of Fame credentials away lol
I completely believe Cam when he inferred that they offered Swayman that much. I don't believe for a second anything Gross has said. Wasn't Gross the one who didn't inform Nylander about negotiations with the Leafs?
I was at the Moncton Wildcats game (as a Cats fan obviously) and the moosehead fans were so loud it felt like a neutral site game moreso than a Wildcats home game
I've said from the beginning that Swayman shouldn't get more than 8m/year. I like him as a goalie and the Bruins definitely need someone better than Korpisalo (pains me to say that as I am Finnish), but not with that price.
Everybody seems to think trading Ullmark was stupid without signing Swayman first! I disagree! They have 8.6 million in cap room! More than enough to sign him! The problem is the player or more so his agent are asking 9-10 plus million for a guy that has “potential “ to be great?? Let this sink in.. His nhl record is 79-39-15 period! Plus a decent 2nd round exit! He’s asking 9 plus million for 8 years! I heard even 10?? Are you kidding!! The Bruins offering 8 for 8 is generous! Imagine he goes in and actually plays a full season but can’t handle the workload and wets the bed! Give your heads a shake if you think he deserves even what the Bruins are willing to give him at 8 for 8
I’d be very very happy to get Swayman on the Avs roster! My Avs are in dire need of a goalie that could steal a game or two. They need a goalie who can steal a series. I don’t think Justus or Georgie can do that. We haven’t even won a preseason game. I know those games were mostly the Colorado Eagles roster but it would be nice to get a win when taking my granddaughter when it’s affordable for a disabled old guy like me.
If that contract is in fact true, how on earth could he turn that down. He’s been good for absolute certain. But I don’t think his volume of games matches a lot of other goalies. Last 2 seasons, Swayman 76. Skinner 105, Shesterkin 113, Bobrovsky 107, Vasilevskiy 112. 30-40 games less is a huge advantage to a goalie. How would he perform adding another half of a season? And that Canadians guy, nice gesture but what the hell? He was punching him with his glove on and was letting loose on the guy. Suspension for sure. Can’t believe it was just a fine.
Swayman doesn't exactly have all the leverage as an RFA, so I don't think it's fair to say bruins management totally bungled it by trading Ullmark before inking Sway. If he doesn't sign by Dec. 1 and the Bruins don't trade him, he can't play in the league and his stock plummets. I think the deal gets done around $8.5M AAV and everyone licks their wounds
Ullmark was moved for a 1st rounder and a very good goaltender with a reasonable contract for a guy they couldn't keep. Swayman has no leverage except to sit out the season. And if Shesterkin is looking at at least $10mil, why would Swayman sign an 8 year deal at a much lower number. Swayman should be looking for a shiort-term deal taking him to UFA status
I urge you to look up the history of Lewis Gross in terms of Johnny Gaudreau and William Nylander. It's extremely likely that Sway isn't even in the loop, considering he's on record stating he would let his agent handle negotiations while he focuses on highway.
Just makes me think why Sway would hire and trust Lewis Gross that much after all the drama in other big contract negotiations. It's not like there are no other good agents who care about the money of their players 😅
@@krakenspectacor yes because they got tired of not playing and said "dude, just sign the perfectly reasonable offer that's on the table" when they finally figured out what was happening. Gross wants more because he takes a percentage of whatever the contract is, or the total value, idk, doesn't matter. He's almost surely keeping Sway away from the negotiating table.
And it's not like the Bruins are going broke tomorrow. They've got one of the biggest fan bases in the League, and millions upon millions. I'm not a Bruins,or Swayman, fan by any stretch, but let him get that cash. Playing careers don't last forever, especially nowadays
As a massive bruins fan, I think the biggest failing of this organization was giving the contract to Zadorov. Fun player to have, but too much money and completely bungled up this situation. That being said, Swayman is not going to be setting the market. That's Shesterkin's and Oettinger's jobs next offseason. Take the 8x8 now, buddy
Soooo many goalies in the past drastically overpaid based on 1 or 2 ok seasons followed by a lights out season followed by AHL type numbers. I don’t blame Swayman for wanting the moon. If I were the Bruins, bargain in good faith but let him sit if it comes to that.
As an Isles fan, what the f**k would be in this for us? It’s just an even GK at a higher price. It’s not worth it compared to Sorokin. Sure, he didn’t have that good of a season last year, but he is still undeniably a top-10, if not top-5 gk in the nhl.
It isn't a suspension unless Pare is gone as well which is the only reason for the Xhekaj response as the officials completely dropped the ball on that. It was clear he sticks out the knee at the last moment and then drives off the far leg. It was a minor league player trying to make an impact and the officials ignoring their responsibility flat out.
Neely and Sweeney are clearly fed up and I don’t blame them. I love Sway, he had a monster playoff but anything above 8 mil for a guy who’s only split time in goal in his career is nonsense.

3:57 - i whole heartedly disagree with this concept. People need to negotiate for their own value. Comparables arent exact for this reason. Some players are fine with taking a paycut, if the situation is right. If they trust the team will be fighting for cups during that time theyre taking "a cut from what they COULD'VE made" as well as trust the team period. Location of the organization matters for some players over others... Lets not forget tax shelter states... This concept of 'having a duty to milk as much value as you possibly can as a player - to the point youre pressured to leave if another team is offering a bit more?! Get out of here with that...
If I had to guess his camp is probably saying if they want 8 years it has to be 10 mil and if you won’t go higher than 8 mil then he’s not signing for more than 3-4 years. He’s 25 and the cap will continue to rise. If he’s making 8 million when he’s 30 he’ll be severely underpaid
Tbh I believe Neely over Gross. Gross has done similar things to Nylander and Gaudreau, holding out even into the season. We’ll see what kind of deal gets done but I think 8 x $8 million is pretty fair
You're wrong about 'reckoning'. Goalies are far less consistent/reliable. The probability of McDavid falling off compared to.. Oh idk, Hellebyuck? Are way, way less. Goalies frequently sign big contracts and fall off immediately after. It's actually *most* of the time that they do. They're not going to get paid top player salaries as long as that's the case.
I saw a video by a smaller channel on this, it's VERY common for big goalie contracts to not age well. There's just too much risk in the position, and so the marginal value of spending that extra cap on a goalie is lower than spending it on a skater
With Linus Ullmark gone, how much leverage do the Bruins' personnel folks have to act like that? They need to pay Swayman what his services are worth and keep details out of the media.
His stats are amazing and he is definitely a top goalie in the league. But he only played 44 games last year and has been sheltered as a tandem during his NHL career. It is kind of ridiculous to be asking to be the highest paid goalie in the league without showing that you can maintain that level with a much heavier work load. I know that is not fair to him because I am sure that he would have loved to play more games last year but unfortunately he is unproven as a true number 1 start until he can pocket 60-65 games in a single season.
It's Cam. He's a loose cannon and the rest of the MGMT team always try to clean up his messes. Cam is way too emotional and there is a break in the connection from his brain and mouth. Sometime he blurts out things he shouldn't. This is a perfect example. His GM was trying to negotiate the player for less, offering 7.8 x 8. Cam suddenly drops 8 x8 - their potential top offer they discussed internally but had not got there yet. Just look at the GM's face lol.

When Swayman is finally up to speed and who even knows what kind of deal has to get done to get him to lace them up for Boston now... Bridge deal with hopes that someone out west will trade for him? I'm honestly wondering how much longer he's even going to be a Bruin. They take him to arbitration, they call him out in public multiple times, and now this statement from Swayman's agent? What are the Bruins even doing?
Swayman took them to Arbitration last year, Swayman and Gross leaked stuff for months, and now suddenly Bruins management are the bad guys?
Yeah, public negotiations from either side is a big no no for further trust. I may/may not agree with Swayman but it ishis right not to sign any contract he doesn't like. Bruins have the same right.
The Bruins didn't take Swayman to arbitration. Swayman is the one who filed for arbitration last year.
Swayman isn't worth it. That's the real problem.
Agents don't care. If he makes 8x8.1 playing for Calgary, that's a bigger cut for the agent than 8x8 in Boston.
1 of 2 things happened here and the opposite side is trying to save face.
1. Either Neely approved the 8x8M contract and Sweeney never offered it to Swayman and his agent, unbeknownst to Neely. (I find this to be unlikely)
2. The 8x8M offer was made to Swayman's agent but, he never relayed that information to Swayman thinking he could get more $ and now he has to lie in the media saying that was never offered or else Swayman will know he's not being fully transparent.
For the last people living under a rock, remember Cam Neely is Sea Bass from Dumb and Dumber 1-2. You don't mess with Sea Bass!
“Who’s the dead man that hit me with the salt shaker!” 😂
Well, Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) sure did. Sea Bass paid his bill. A fun movie and a great scene with Cam.
I remember he and Shanahan also appeared in Me, Myself, and Irene.

because they needed cap space to sign sway, lindholm and zadorov - dont know where the narative of signing sway before ully getting move started - Ully had a NTC which the bruins needed to move before july 1st in order to not get skullf*cked by that
definitely longer videos! i watch these on my lunch break so that is perfect
As a Habs fan I can say that this is great. After trading away your Vezina winning goalie for a broken down shooter tutor, it’s important to alienate his equally talented replacement. The only thing that would make it better is if Ulf Samulesson was Sawymans agent.
Well done Bruins Management, well done
where's the xhekaj video saying you lost all respect for him?
I would love to see a complete cost comparison from around the league. I just bought 9 Jets games in a wheelchair section at concourse level, $300 per for good teams and $220 per for not premium teams. Concessions are expensive too.

I’d love to see more of these longer videos mixed in occasionally, good stuff
Would love to see Korpisalo shine to start the season. While i believe that Bostons GM totally screwed this up royally by not securing the contact before letting Ulmark go(dah, no brainer), i think that this Swayman dude needs to be humbled by realizing that he's being offered a LOT of money for a long time, and realizing he could be injured in that period of time and he will still be getting paid. This is just greed and ignorance on his part-and his karma will likely bring some nasty energy upon him.

Pro tip: put your ads at the start of your video.
I have a hard time believing 8x8 wasn't one of the offers presented to him.
So what big pieces will the avs be giving up?
Avs are the last team that needs to be gifted a top 5 goaltender.
And the 9 million cap space that would be needed comes from where?
@@kazuhiramiller1616they'd need to create 9 million in cap space. They either lose a star player or very important depth.
@@johanstinson that's... irrelevant
Anyone else kind of glad boston is finally going through some contract drama
Yeah a weekly news roundup/updates on stories/deep dive would be cool
Bruins assumed a Vezina winner probably cost more and to sign. Now, they regret mightly.
It dosent matter if Paré did it on perpouse. But it matters whatever Xhekaj tried to do to respond. Nice job Eck! Not biased at all.
It does fucking matter cause if he went out there with the intent to injure, he is a dangerous player and will need to be suspended indefinitely
Lol
@@misterinsanity6980 So did Paré and Grieg. But it's okay. Only Xhekaj needs punishment
I'm in agreeance. Wouldn't surprise me if Swayman is in the dark about everything

Boston went from having 2 number one goalies and currently has none if Swayman doesn't sign.Teams go no where without a good goalie.
Soooo many goalies in the past drastically overpaid based on 1 or 2 ok seasons followed by a lights out season followed by AHL type numbers. I don’t blame Swayman for wanting the moon. If I were the Bruins, bargain in good faith but let him sit if it comes to that.
Id trade sorokin for swayman
Would Never Happen Since Sorokin To Valuable For The Islanders
Let’s not forget the kinds of people the Bruins are dealing with here 😂
Neely and Sweeney are clearly fed up and I don’t blame them.

Swayman should get paid if the Bruins don’t like his contract request and can’t find better goaltending for less, he’s worth what he’s asking

8x8 for an unproven 1B is a ridiculous overpay. 6-7M tops.
With Linus Ullmark gone, how much leverage do the Bruins' personnel folks have to act like that? They need to pay Swayman what his services are worth and keep details out of the media.
I can't believe how badly Boston have handled this, from trading Ullmark onwards. Dear oh dear.
