I grew up playing RPGs on PS1, so on my first playthrough of Borderlands I was used to reading everything. It helps flesh out the story and world, especially with the side missions. BL1 needs a full-blown remake instead of a half-baked remaster. Do the game some justice and bring us back to the good days.
I actually read every mission log when accepting them. They fleshed out the story and world a lot more, especially with the lack of dialogue for missions in the first game. They added a sense of life and realism to an empty world

It's been ruined with the sheer amount of crap and changes. I enjoyed the MMO scene, but the games have just turned into gacha style money hogs to milk players. It's hard to find fun lately.
Get off RUclips and play the actual game borderlands 3 is a great game. The story wasn’t a bad as people make it out to be, not to mention the story is the smallest part of the game. It’s the same with bl2. Most of the game happens after you beat the warrior.

While I was having tons of fun considering bl3 has the best gameplay, loot and skill trees in the whole franchise, you can't even vault or slide in bl2, not to mention bl2 had garbage and ps2 level gunplay, story is irrelevant when the gameplay is so damn good

Hell no, Aliens Colonial Marines wasn't Randy's baby. That was a game in development hell for a while until Sega gave the game to Randy and Gearbox Studios to develop and finish but they didn't even bother doing that, instead they funneled the money to develop Borderlands 2 and handed off the game to a lower tier studio to do it for them. They didn't give a shit about Aliens Colonial Marines, only that the money attached to it was enough to fuel BL2.

You do know what you want is a remake not a remaster right? You make a game on a new engine it’s basically a new game so you gotta start from the ground up. Animations would have to be redone so yes they would have to touch the characters and everything else in the game otherwise you’d just have bl2 models awkwardly walking around a lush environment which would look flat out hideous then you’ll complain about lack of soul proving that you borderlands fanboys can’t enjoy anything unless it’s bl2. With new animations and new character designs in the remake you also need to redo the story. Why because the voice work and story model is damn near 11 years old and slots changed in those 11 years so the bare bones of it can stay the same but some of the dirt will have to be scrubbed off so yes they will have to touch your story. Why? Cause if they make a remake where do you think they’re gonna go for some pointers? Where remakes exist. They’ll mostly look at the remakes of re2,3, and 4 and make their remake like they made theirs. You think their remakes would’ve been successful if they just took the exact same game from sega and GameCube games and all they did was make it prettier? No. No they wouldn’t. The re fans would dogpile on the studios for that. Just like I’m sure you’d dog pile on gearbox if they do what you ask and give you a half assed remaster If you ask them to fix the bugs you aren’t gonna like what they fix. Salvadore and bunker boring will be nerfed to the ground for one so no more one shotting bunker or killing raid bosses in 3 seconds. Can’t wait to see how you tantrum over that. With how poorly op levels were received I highly doubt they’d be in your previous remake and if it is you’re not gonna like what they turn into in fact it’ll probably be more akin to mayhem levels or just not exist at all. You aren’t gonna get exactly what you want. i think the day that gearbox can even think about rebuilding its reputation is the day that randy steps down as ceo. over the past few years hes shown absolutely 0 signs of growth as a person and a very stubborn unwillingness to change. in fact, id say hes regressed. its such a shame to see one of my favorite franchises fade into the mediocrity it has become and the fact that all of it can be linked back to this one man makes it even worse

I've put 1k hours into bl3 and 99% of that is with the dialogue audio slider at 5%, lol. The only reason i am able to play it is because the story has never been very important to me. It hurts to think about how much better the game would be if they would just listen to feedback, new tales really showed me how literally any garbage is able to be greenlit (yes, somehow new tales writing is far worse than bl3's). I am NOT buying bl4 if the story is on the same level as their previous shit, regardless of if i care about the story or not. They need to show that they care. Fuck Randy, I've always blamed Randy and I'll continue to until he is gone. I almost feel kinda bad for the people working at gearbox. Great video, even if it hurts to hear this.
Audio for me was set at zero percent so I could listen to music while I play solo. I also preferred the DLC over the main story anyways. Wonderlands was…decent, but had zero replay value, much like starfield (very pretty, but BORING). I’m hoping that BL4 will be better, but my standards aren’t that high.
Even with the audio muted, it still feels bad to go through another playthrough cause, while you don't actively follow the story, you still know it exists and remember how awful it is and what a missed opportunity it was. I found it pretty depressing in TVHM when I rushed through the story and dialogues, the DLCs really were a breath of fresh air, I would recommend not going through the main story and just do the DLCs when playing BL3 honestly.

The ending cutscene is the proof for me. Out of EVERY SINGLE character that you have access to, why are Tennis and Ava the ONLY two characters seeing Lilith off? I usually cringe at the "women here so it must be woke" but like honestly, why is the only male on the ship Marcus? You're telling me that in the whole story, Brick, Mordecai, and any of the BL2 vault Hunters just are absent from the game?

Ish, but I think it was partly because they tried to make the twins like Jack, and it absolutely didn’t work. Part of what made Jack dangerous was both being out of touch, and having an extremely amount of resources to put to petty purposes, so that every time you look in the sky? You see his presence. Having social clout as the next antagonist didn’t really work because it felt like it was trying to be Jack; when I wanted someone to take more seriously.
Bl2 had garbage gunplay and movement, all it had going for it was story and humor, bl3 is superior in terms of gunplay, movement, skull trees and loot, dont forget this is a looter shooter so of course the loot system and gunplay are the two most important elements, if a looter shooter gets these two things right like bl3 than everything else us just window dressing or sprinkles on top of a cupcake, if the cupcake is delicious then who cares about the sprinkles aka story, characters and humor, if your seriously playing a looter shooter for the story then maybe your porogatives are out of whack
@@mathewhosier9739 i don't think bl2 had garbage gunplay or movement, they were just simple is all. simplicity isn't such a bad thing, especially in bl2's case, with the complimentary of all the other supporting aspects fitting it all into a very nicely built structure
I think the two big upsides Bl2s writing had were: 1. It knew when to be serious and drop the jokes. 2. The type of humour, although very hit or miss, fitted the characters. And not every character was a joke scriptdump. Most of the main cast (Roland, Lilith, Mordecai) were relatively serious characters.

I used to believe the psy-op, until I really got a computer a few years ago and started emulating older games. They are still just as good. Yeah, the graphics are usually worse than I remember... But who cares? They hold up and most importantly, play well too.
yeah unfortunately the downward spiral of the franchise has made being a borderlands fan painful, it feels more akin to hate watching because it's so hard to believe that they can do any good in any upcoming titles. after the pre sequel i knew that they couldn't reach the greatness that BL2 got to but i figured they could get near it. boy howdy was i wrong
to me its felt like they actively work against the feedback of the community. the stuff people didnt like just became more and more prevalent and the things that drew me to play bl2 for thousands of hours were all lost and forgotten. the launch of bl3 for me kinda showed that the company had zero idea what actually made their games enjoyable. the first thing that was a major red flag for this (in bl3) was the lack of dedicated drops. the degree to which you would have to fundamentally misinterpret the communities desires and expectations in order for dedicated drops to not be a no brainer addition to every borderlands game you ever make is something i genuinely cannot understand or empathize with on any level. its not like these are unfair wants either, every expectation i had for bl3 was based on my experience w bl2 i wasnt expecting something life altering but building upon what worked rather than taking it away is just so obviously what needed to happen and it just didnt. how did we get here
The end game became playable again when they reintroduced dedicated drops and allowed for anointments to be rerolled. It's like the developers had their heads up their asses when they decided to launch a game without these mechanics.
I doubt we'll ever see anything like the old Borderlands again. Makes me reinforce my headcanon that the fade out on the vault key in the last scene of the Fight For Sanctuary DLC is an open ending. Much less disappointing than what we actually got.

boiling borderlands down to ironic offensive jokes shows that you truly have no grasp on what made borderlands fun OR funny. i wouldn't say that any of borderlands 1 or 2 was offensive. maybe a little insensitive? but they were just good jokes. the tweet that randy was pointing out WAS sexist and unfunny. it's not a good joke, and nothing like what was in borderlands 1 or 2. the problem with the new games is the story, not the jokes. there are some good jokes in 3 and wonderlands, the problem is the complete slog that is their stories. the characters are just walking joke machines instead of actual characters. and what made 1 and 2 good WAS that complexity. sure, jack is an asshole, but he's never been offensive, and you get a glimpse into what made him into who he is. the sympathy is what makes him likeable. the jokes weren't offensive, they were just insensitive towards the player. that isn't borderline offensiveness, and borderlands has NEVER been about being crass and offensive just because.

I'm more into turn based RPGs or melee focused ARPGs, but my brother is/was pretty into Borderlands and its kind of sad watching a franchise he cares/cared so much about nosediving into the floor. Every game after Borderlands 2 I only played if I was playing with him out of a sense of obligation, the experiences, aside from spending time with him, were shallow, hollow and devoid of fun... there were even times in Borderlands 3 where the game straight put me to sleep and we had to end a session early.

The end was so real. A shell of what the games used to be and shown three games that've been taking fat L's. Cod, OW, and Borderlands all get milked by their company for the value that an old loving dev team put in years ago. I might be the only one in the community who isn’t entirely doom and gloom about Borderlands 4. Maybe it’s because a part of me thinks that Gearbox realizes that their back is against the wall here and they CANNOT afford to fail BL4. Fuck me for being hopeful, but it’s a lot better than being sad over the state of the games in recent games.
the problem is is that the community is fed up with their woke garbage, but the devs refuse to see that they have done something wrong and its the community that is wrong and are just bigoted. Also alot of these writers are pretty young, I.E. they wernt making the games we had fun with, or games that are fun to this day, but only a few years out of college where almost none of them learned how to write a good story, and were instead taught a bunch of nonsense that only the professors believe from their ivory tower.

id like to add that the humor / writing of bl only works from my perspective by having it grounded, and THEN throw random shit at you and by grounded i mean it IS scy fi, however it tries to be somewhat realistic until it isnt tales for example has rhys suddenly see how INSANE shit gets, and his reaction shows, that even with everything that happened with the helios station its still SOMEWHAT grounded there having scooter in bl1 say save lucky so i can kill him myself is in modern games either a joke or he blows him up in bl1 he has a throw away line in knoxx dlc where he states he has killed him, and uses that to threaten you its grounded insane and also funny and thats from bl1 which wasnt THE BEST but this kind of humor is everywhere in bl1 2 tps and tales and thats when you can reset or have contrast to the cringe that follows eventually
It's hard to hear but completely correct. Borderlands has been on a downward spital since bl3 and more then ever I'm losing my passion for the series as interest dims from fans as a whole. BL2 is largely the same exact thing as BL3, a time capsule from the year 2012. It's a lot of pop culture references and quirky humor that gets old after awhile. What makes BL2 better is the characters. I never got to play the DLC back in the day and after I played the Tina Tiny DLC for the first time while waiting for BL3 to launch I suddenly really loved a character that I thought was most representative of everything I hated about BL2 coming from BL1. Although Pandora wasn't the same Mad Max setting I enjoyed, it was still worth investing time in understanding the cast of characters better.
This is what happens when you hire on bad faith actors and tourists to do development and put everything into gameplay but have nothing else. I was honestly going to skip BL3 but buckled for the sake of 2 of my friends after it got out of the Epic Games trap. I never financially supported them ever since.
It feels like you don't lump BL3 in with the trash tier writing and I've no idea why. The gunplay in BL3 looks great, but I've never been able to justify buying it for myself because I know I'll hate almost every line of cringe inducing dialogue. No, they're not going to bounce back. Franchise has been suffering for what, a decade?

Stories written by game "devs" today aren't bad because they think we can't handle a good story, the problem is they are incapable of writing good stories. Thanks to companies that embrace DEI, we get people hired because of color of their skin or their genital preference, even if their typical written story in high school got a D- and a note to see the teacher after class. Quality is no longer the goal, but the ability to get free handouts from banks, like Black Rock, who literally are on the record talking about forcing companies to do this sort of bad hiring behavior in exchange for money. Sell enough to hopeful fans and ride the free money train from investors. Randy Pitchford was an abhorrent man in the past, with no one who ever worked with him leaving much more than a generic compliment about the man and his work; now he just uses Gearbox as a piggybank to line his own pockets and as a platform to virtue signal.

I've actually been thinking about this so much recently, I was 8 years old when borderlands 1 came out in 2009 and i got instantly hooked. I think a big reason why bl1 was so great was because of the atmosphere, everything about the game from its art style and setting, to the music and sounds, to the enemy and environment design all contributed to an amazing atmosphere and "vibe". On top of that, it was completely original. Then jump forward a couple games and all that has been left behind in favour for out of season deez nuts jokes. Like what??? If BL4 wants to be good, the devs need to listen to the community, and also cut back on the dialogue to focus on quality over quantity (seriously, i dont need a drawn out 30+ second voice line every time i do anything to progress a quest) and make the game feel more like BL1. The new games just do too much lazy pandering instead of creating an original and immersive gameplay experience like the first game did. AS A SIDE NOTE: Borderlands 1 and 2 are some of my favourite game of all time, and I don't even mind TPS either. It's been my goal the past year or so to learn unity, scripting and programming to try and make my own Borderlands style looter shooter (Because seriously, there are no looter shooters like Borderlands at all, the closest thing I've ever played is Gunfire Reborn which is a rouge lite). I want to make my own game, one with similar gameplay to BL2, and a more mature feeling and setting like that in BL1.

Man I'm just now replaying BL1 and it's such a little gem. I'm not big into looter shooters but BL1 just has that something, that perfect balance of Trigun-ass setting, mechanics and pacing that makes it so memorable. That random high tier Double Anarchy drop when you least expect it that revitalizes your 2.5, the moment you find out you can pull off the dumbest melee only Mordecai build because of a single shitty skill, those little things that make BL1 a true lightning in a bottle. Even BL2, while really cool, was missing some of the first game's subtlety and alien charm. You could already see the lolrandom humour creeping in, in the shadows of the actually funny stuff. True, Handsome Jack was a really good hatable villain, but goddamn Knoxx was an incredibly lovable one.
Me amd my dad played together since bl1 when I was like 10. We barley fi ished the pre sequel (after re playing it with different expectations I like the game). Bl3 was the final straw for my dad. When we got to the tannis part he was done.
The problem is the stories were always juvenile as fuck outside of tales imo. The overall writing has gotten more “twitter” but that’s a general writer thing nowadays. Everything is like a reddit thread. I don’t think “offense” has anything to do with it, as the games were always just “wacky” in the most bland way possible anyway.

Disco Elysium was fresh air gotta love indie devs for making choices that matter and turn the main character into a monster. Fallout 4 having sarcasm as an only option to be evil was a terrible decision.
Borderlands 1 was cool a bit tedious , borderlands 2 potty humor got annoying quick and the gameplay wasn’t changed too drastically. Didnt like the removal of gore. 3 I like the return of gore. Story and characters were still pretty bad if not worse than 2. Gameplay feels great but the world/early plot isn’t that motivating
tbh, the humor we’re looking for is simply a fleeting concept i think now. People have varied humor from person and person and it’s too hard to nail down. what kept me on borderlands 3 was an the attempt to chage th e overall feel with more polish and after care support with dedicated drops and everything. In conclusion, fourderlands will hopefully have fun guns, mechanics, and characters. Here’s to hoping 🎉
They killed the Borderlands story in the second game when they turn vault hunters in to heroes. Seriously the series starts with y'all just murdering camps / outposts, looking for clues of where a vault is so you can get rich. And by the third game Ava meets you and says "you're a vault hunter? Kill bad guys, save the universe?!" They turned a dark interesting world and just made it "siwwy >.
Did you actually play the Second game? Vault hunters weren't heroes in that one, they were Jack's patsy for the majority of it. Jack killed every "new" vaul hunter until the 6 survived because he planned it. The previous Vault Hunters weren't heroes, but instead trying to just survive the Hyperion corporation and live a normal life. 3 was when they were turned into "heroea"
Totally agree, i also dislike the way that they try to make the characters appear more like "hero's", instead of mercenaries that care about nothing but money and will literally kill anyone who stands in their way. BL1 had a much more grim tone and environment, with some dark/goofy humor. I would have much rather had them lean into the darker tones, but that's just my opinion and its understandable not everyone likes that.

This studio gave us Half Life Opposing Forces and the first two Borderlands games. I'd say about half way through the DLC releases of BL2 they completely lost any kind of momentum they might have had. I'd maybe lump Pre-Sequel in with the good games too, but thats more because I actually enjoyed the majority of the Characters for once rather than just like one or two in previous entries. Gearbox had its time to shine but the majority of the people who were relevant to the good old days, aside from Randy, ditched for greener pastures. I do not blame them.
The most scary and disturbing part of this entire video is that Randy Pitchford guy stopping in the middle of his rant about how offended he was by a joke tweet to say "I own the Duke Nukem franchise."
I had hopes that eventually GearBox would start getting better, but seeing them side with the anti gaming organization like SBI made me lose those hopes, but at least we still have the previous games to return to

I know almost nobody reads the mission descriptions in BL1 because they're long and have no VA, but a lot of them are very compelling.
I grew up playing RPGs on PS1, so on my first playthrough of Borderlands I was used to reading everything. It helps flesh out the story and world, especially with the side missions. BL1 needs a full-blown remake instead of a half-baked remaster. Do the game some justice and bring us back to the good days.
I actually read every mission log when accepting them. They fleshed out the story and world a lot more, especially with the lack of dialogue for missions in the first game. They added a sense of life and realism to an empty world
Borderlands1 is my favourite story. Borderlands2 is #2. The plot twists in #1 are great.

Hell no, Aliens Colonial Marines wasn't Randy's baby. That was a game in development hell for a while until Sega gave the game to Randy and Gearbox Studios to develop and finish but they didn't even bother doing that, instead they funneled the money to develop Borderlands 2 and handed off the game to a lower tier studio to do it for them. They didn't give a shit about Aliens Colonial Marines, only that the money attached to it was enough to fuel BL2.

You do know what you want is a remake not a remaster right? You make a game on a new engine it’s basically a new game so you gotta start from the ground up. Animations would have to be redone so yes they would have to touch the characters and everything else in the game otherwise you’d just have bl2 models awkwardly walking around a lush environment which would look flat out hideous then you’ll complain about lack of soul proving that you borderlands fanboys can’t enjoy anything unless it’s bl2. With new animations and new character designs in the remake you also need to redo the story. Why because the voice work and story model is damn near 11 years old and slots changed in those 11 years so the bare bones of it can stay the same but some of the dirt will have to be scrubbed off so yes they will have to touch your story. Why? Cause if they make a remake where do you think they’re gonna go for some pointers? Where remakes exist. They’ll mostly look at the remakes of re2,3, and 4 and make their remake like they made theirs. You think their remakes would’ve been successful if they just took the exact same game from sega and GameCube games and all they did was make it prettier? No. No they wouldn’t. The re fans would dogpile on the studios for that. Just like I’m sure you’d dog pile on gearbox if they do what you ask and give you a half assed remaster

With how poorly op levels were received I highly doubt they’d be in your previous remake and if it is you’re not gonna like what they turn into in fact it’ll probably be more akin to mayhem levels or just not exist at all.

I've put 1k hours into bl3 and 99% of that is with the dialogue audio slider at 5%, lol. The only reason i am able to play it is because the story has never been very important to me.
It hurts to think about how much better the game would be if they would just listen to feedback, new tales really showed me how literally any garbage is able to be greenlit (yes, somehow new tales writing is far worse than bl3's). I am NOT buying bl4 if the story is on the same level as their previous shit, regardless of if i care about the story or not. They need to show that they care.

Audio for me was set at zero percent so I could listen to music while I play solo. I also preferred the DLC over the main story anyways. Wonderlands was…decent, but had zero replay value, much like starfield (very pretty, but BORING). I’m hoping that BL4 will be better, but my standards aren’t that high.
Even with the audio muted, it still feels bad to go through another playthrough cause, while you don't actively follow the story, you still know it exists and remember how awful it is and what a missed opportunity it was. I found it pretty depressing in TVHM when I rushed through the story and dialogues, the DLCs really were a breath of fresh air, I would recommend not going through the main story and just do the DLCs when playing BL3 honestly.
It's a shame, I really love BL3's gameplay and it's hard to get back to BL2.

The ending cutscene is the proof for me. Out of EVERY SINGLE character that you have access to, why are Tennis and Ava the ONLY two characters seeing Lilith off? I usually cringe at the "women here so it must be woke" but like honestly, why is the only male on the ship Marcus? You're telling me that in the whole story, Brick, Mordecai, and any of the BL2 vault Hunters just are absent from the game?

Ish, but I think it was partly because they tried to make the twins like Jack, and it absolutely didn’t work. Part of what made Jack dangerous was both being out of touch, and having an extremely amount of resources to put to petty purposes, so that every time you look in the sky? You see his presence. Having social clout as the next antagonist didn’t really work because it felt like it was trying to be Jack; when I wanted someone to take more seriously.

I think the two big upsides Bl2s writing had were: 1. It knew when to be serious and drop the jokes. 2. The type of humour, although very hit or miss, fitted the characters. And not every character was a joke scriptdump. Most of the main cast (Roland, Lilith, Mordecai) were relatively serious characters.

I used to believe the psy-op, until I really got a computer a few years ago and started emulating older games. They are still just as good. Yeah, the graphics are usually worse than I remember... But who cares? They hold up and most importantly, play well too.
yeah unfortunately the downward spiral of the franchise has made being a borderlands fan painful, it feels more akin to hate watching because it's so hard to believe that they can do any good in any upcoming titles. after the pre sequel i knew that they couldn't reach the greatness that BL2 got to but i figured they could get near it. boy howdy was i wrong
to me its felt like they actively work against the feedback of the community. the stuff people didnt like just became more and more prevalent and the things that drew me to play bl2 for thousands of hours were all lost and forgotten. the launch of bl3 for me kinda showed that the company had zero idea what actually made their games enjoyable. the first thing that was a major red flag for this (in bl3) was the lack of dedicated drops. the degree to which you would have to fundamentally misinterpret the communities desires and expectations in order for dedicated drops to not be a no brainer addition to every borderlands game you ever make is something i genuinely cannot understand or empathize with on any level. its not like these are unfair wants either, every expectation i had for bl3 was based on my experience w bl2 i wasnt expecting something life altering but building upon what worked rather than taking it away is just so obviously what needed to happen and it just didnt. how did we get here
The end game became playable again when they reintroduced dedicated drops and allowed for anointments to be rerolled. It's like the developers had their heads up their asses when they decided to launch a game without these mechanics.

I'm more into turn based RPGs or melee focused ARPGs, but my brother is/was pretty into Borderlands and its kind of sad watching a franchise he cares/cared so much about nosediving into the floor. Every game after Borderlands 2 I only played if I was playing with him out of a sense of obligation, the experiences, aside from spending time with him, were shallow, hollow and devoid of fun... there were even times in Borderlands 3 where the game straight put me to sleep and we had to end a session early.

The only vindication the 4th game could achieve is if it started out saying the 3rd is retconned and the problematic people who created it were blacklisted from the industry.
The end was so real. A shell of what the games used to be and shown three games that've been taking fat L's. Cod, OW, and Borderlands all get milked by their company for the value that an old loving dev team put in years ago. People only play these games hoping to retain half the enjoyment of the original masterpiece.

I might be the only one in the community who isn’t entirely doom and gloom about Borderlands 4. Maybe it’s because a part of me thinks that Gearbox realizes that their back is against the wall here and they CANNOT afford to fail BL4. Fuck me for being hopeful, but it’s a lot better than being sad over the state of the games in recent games.
the problem is is that the community is fed up with their woke garbage, but the devs refuse to see that they have done something wrong and its the community that is wrong and are just bigoted.
Also alot of these writers are pretty young, I.E. they wernt making the games we had fun with, or games that are fun to this day, but only a few years out of college where almost none of them learned how to write a good story, and were instead taught a bunch of nonsense that only the professors believe from their ivory tower.

Theres no hope for a comeback borderlands 2 was peak, borderlands the pre sequel was alright, borderlands 3 made me wanna blow out my eardrums so i could enjoy the game in peace, and now their releasing a half assed movie with watered down characters that i used to love. If imma be honest they shouldn’t even make a BL4 they should just remaster bl1, bl2 and the pre sequel with bl3 graphics, tbh the way the pre sequel ended with the “war is coming” thing I really do want them to continue off of that but with the way the wrote bl3 I rather be left with a cliff hanger than with a disappointment

It's hard to hear but completely correct. Borderlands has been on a downward spital since bl3 and more then ever I'm losing my passion for the series as interest dims from fans as a whole.

BL2 is largely the same exact thing as BL3, a time capsule from the year 2012. It's a lot of pop culture references and quirky humor that gets old after awhile. What makes BL2 better is the characters. I never got to play the DLC back in the day and after I played the Tina Tiny DLC for the first time while waiting for BL3 to launch I suddenly really loved a character that I thought was most representative of everything I hated about BL2 coming from BL1. Although Pandora wasn't the same Mad Max setting I enjoyed, it was still worth investing time in understanding the cast of characters better.
This is what happens when you hire on bad faith actors and tourists to do development and put everything into gameplay but have nothing else.
I was honestly going to skip BL3 but buckled for the sake of 2 of my friends after it got out of the Epic Games trap. I never financially supported them ever since.

Stories written by game "devs" today aren't bad because they think we can't handle a good story, the problem is they are incapable of writing good stories. Thanks to companies that embrace DEI, we get people hired because of color of their skin or their genital preference, even if their typical written story in high school got a D- and a note to see the teacher after class. Quality is no longer the goal, but the ability to get free handouts from banks, like Black Rock, who literally are on the record talking about forcing companies to do this sort of bad hiring behavior in exchange for money. Sell enough to hopeful fans and ride the free money train from investors. Randy Pitchford was an abhorrent man in the past, with no one who ever worked with him leaving much more than a generic compliment about the man and his work; now he just uses Gearbox as a piggybank to line his own pockets and as a platform to virtue signal.

I've actually been thinking about this so much recently, I was 8 years old when borderlands 1 came out in 2009 and i got instantly hooked. I think a big reason why bl1 was so great was because of the atmosphere, everything about the game from its art style and setting, to the music and sounds, to the enemy and environment design all contributed to an amazing atmosphere and "vibe". On top of that, it was completely original. Then jump forward a couple games and all that has been left behind in favour for out of season deez nuts jokes. Like what???
If BL4 wants to be good, the devs need to listen to the community, and also cut back on the dialogue to focus on quality over quantity (seriously, i dont need a drawn out 30+ second voice line every time i do anything to progress a quest) and make the game feel more like BL1. The new games just do too much lazy pandering instead of creating an original and immersive gameplay experience like the first game did.
AS A SIDE NOTE: Borderlands 1 and 2 are some of my favourite game of all time, and I don't even mind TPS either. It's been my goal the past year or so to learn unity, scripting and programming to try and make my own Borderlands style looter shooter (Because seriously, there are no looter shooters like Borderlands at all, the closest thing I've ever played is Gunfire Reborn which is a rouge lite). I want to make my own game, one with similar gameplay to BL2, and a more mature feeling and setting like that in BL1.
I still play Borderlands 1 pretty regularly. definitely in my top 10 games.

Man I'm just now replaying BL1 and it's such a little gem. I'm not big into looter shooters but BL1 just has that something, that perfect balance of Trigun-ass setting, mechanics and pacing that makes it so memorable. That random high tier Double Anarchy drop when you least expect it that revitalizes your 2.5, the moment you find out you can pull off the dumbest melee only Mordecai build because of a single shitty skill, those little things that make BL1 a true lightning in a bottle. Even BL2, while really cool, was missing some of the first game's subtlety and alien charm. You could already see the lolrandom humour creeping in, in the shadows of the actually funny stuff. True, Handsome Jack was a really good hatable villain, but goddamn Knoxx was an incredibly lovable one.

Borderlands 1 was cool a bit tedious , borderlands 2 potty humor got annoying quick and the gameplay wasn’t changed too drastically. Didnt like the removal of gore. 3 I like the return of gore. Story and characters were still pretty bad if not worse than 2. Gameplay feels great but the world/early plot isn’t that motivating

tbh, the humor we’re looking for is simply a fleeting concept i think now. People have varied humor from person and person and it’s too hard to nail down. what kept me on borderlands 3 was an the attempt to chage th e overall feel with more polish and after care support with dedicated drops and everything. In conclusion, fourderlands will hopefully have fun guns, mechanics, and characters. Here’s to hoping 🎉
They killed the Borderlands story in the second game when they turn vault hunters in to heroes. Seriously the series starts with y'all just murdering camps / outposts, looking for clues of where a vault is so you can get rich. And by the third game Ava meets you and says "you're a vault hunter? Kill bad guys, save the universe?!"

Did you actually play the Second game? Vault hunters weren't heroes in that one, they were Jack's patsy for the majority of it. Jack killed every "new" vaul hunter until the 6 survived because he planned it. The previous Vault Hunters weren't heroes, but instead trying to just survive the Hyperion corporation and live a normal life. 3 was when they were turned into "heroea"

Totally agree, i also dislike the way that they try to make the characters appear more like "hero's", instead of mercenaries that care about nothing but money and will literally kill anyone who stands in their way. BL1 had a much more grim tone and environment, with some dark/goofy humor. I would have much rather had them lean into the darker tones, but that's just my opinion and its understandable not everyone likes that.

This studio gave us Half Life Opposing Forces and the first two Borderlands games. I'd say about half way through the DLC releases of BL2 they completely lost any kind of momentum they might have had. I'd maybe lump Pre-Sequel in with the good games too, but thats more because I actually enjoyed the majority of the Characters for once rather than just like one or two in previous entries.
Gearbox had its time to shine but the majority of the people who were relevant to the good old days, aside from Randy, ditched for greener pastures.
I do not blame them.
The most scary and disturbing part of this entire video is that Randy Pitchford guy stopping in the middle of his rant about how offended he was by a joke tweet to say "I own the Duke Nukem franchise."
