Let's face it, we lost two vault hunters (Maya and Lilith) in Borderlands 3, gained... Ava? So still a net loss, we have no idea where Krieg, Salvador, or Axton are, and the War that the Watcher warned of in Pre-Sequel is still not happening.
I'm curious as to if the Siren we get to play as in Borderlands 4 will use Phaseleech now that Troy and Tyreen are dead, or if Gearbox will finally let loose a new Siren with Commendant Steele's still unknown Siren powers.
There's also the Seventh Siren that Nyriad's tablet warned us to never find. Will the war be centered around the Seventh attempting to/succeeding in escaping her perpetual containment? She's got to be sealed away in another vault somewhere given that her powers aren't in the wild like the other five (Now six since Tyreen's death).
We've gotta prepare for a this Great War that the Watcher says we'll need all Vault Hunters on deck for, which potentially means every surviving vault hunter from 1-3 as well as the Borderlands 4 vault hunters, whatever they end up as, and possibly Athena from Pre-Sequel.
Agreed the twins are just annoying I felt like they were trying to be like Jack but lacked the charm and personality and the whole evil twitch streamers didn’t help
I think Troy got close to being cool. However Tyreen was annoying.

@@TheGrumbliestPuppy It's 2023 now but I gotta say I disagree, I mean ig I can't say much when I was good at driving warthogs in halo but either way I enjoyed the vehicle combat in this game, the cyclone was fun and all the mods on the vehicles were fun as well, especially the hover tires.

Every character that you mentioned has a gimmick of some sort. Ava was the only interesting character. She just recieved zero attention when it came to character development. She was SUPPOSED to come to the realization, after blaming lilith, that it was her carelessness that caused maya's death. Then they could have had ava rectify her actions and honor maya in some way.

Npcs movement have always been a problem in borderlands
I'm letting my brother get it first so I'm able to play it for myself then I'll buy it for my PS4
It's definitely better this time around, enemies actually take cover rather than crouching and shooting you in the open
When all the enemies run away when you get second wind :'(
It's even worse when NPC AI melts down and bugs out completely to the point where they're completely stuck in place and won't advance on until you reset the game. Had that happen during a very crucial moment of the game and it highly annoyed me.
Awbawlisk the Tormentor certain NPCs for me got stuck too, but some did a weird jump thing to get unstuck
So basically:
Really fun gameplay with a great artistic style, only being held back from the unholy fusion of MCU banter and "Lol XD" humor.

It's like this game's story was written and posted onto a fan fiction site by a 9 yr old. You could probably even find it sitting next to "Sonic Fucks Princess Peach"
Have you played any of the previous games? If you did, you would know that this isn’t new, it’s a main theme in all the games. If the dialogue was so bad they would’ve gotten rid of it a long time ago. The humor is what a lot of people liked about the original game.
Only thing I’m a little disappointed with is I will find some crazy hidden spot and just be rewarded with a basic item box
there is an enemy that is known as "dinkle bot". you get a legendary drop to return to Earl to get a legendary item. but in return he gives you a common ass gun. but the fun part of it is you have to understand why, as its a stab at destiny. borderlands much like destiny is a loot shooter but with a decent story line. you kill/search to find better gear until you max and have all that you can until a dlc drops and then its rinse & repeat. but with the loot, its all RNG. just got to get lucky.
Did you ever consider those might just be the standard hidden spots and you haven't found the ones with the good loot yet ? 😉

@@adamfenix213 You can get quite a few legendaries actually, it's just rare. You gotta grind the farm if you want enough loot-a-grams to get one. Luckily they are a guaranteed drop from him.

comedy in games shouldn't be based on current trends. it should just be actual comedy and jokes. that way cringey jokes that used to be mainstream wont affect the quality of the game's writing
Jack McCann eh I think it’s good for a game to have a personality of it’s own. Not every game is going for a timeless story. Borderlands has always been about over the top violence and guns and it already has an “out-there” art style and system of generating guns so I think the humor suits it.
I think the way they sorta based the villains on streamers could have played out well. Honestly that goes for a lot of "trendy" stuff. It's ok to comment on or have an identity that has a lot to what's contemporary at the time, like Bad Luck said, there should be an identity to the writing that will, I'd argue, inevitably be influenced by current trends. Nothing can truly be timeless, some mark of the time it was made, or the time those who had made it lived in, will always exist in the subtext. So, provided you're not doing it just to do it, embracing trends with varying degrees of satire isn't necessarily bad, or at least isn't something you can *wholly* avoid.
@@ShadyRapture i agree that borderlands humour is good. but when you reference current trends and make them commonplace throughout your game it means that it can become stale over time as those trends die out. that's why borderlands 2 which was mainly comedic for actual comedy and jokes is a lot better dialogue wise than borderlands 3 with its outdated slang and trendy jokes

@Okay Tyler infamously long quest where you go and talk to like 200 NPCs. It was required for a few important quests so everyone had to do it and its torture
I disagree with this one, One Small Favour is atrocious on purpose. Nothing in BL3 comes remotely close to how bad that quest is, and I've beaten the campaign 3 times now.
Borderlands 3 has the most individual personality when it comes to the gun manufacturers compared to 2

As a Borderlands fan, you nailed it 100 percent on this review in my opinion.

Story wasn’t as good as the others tbh. Handsome Jack was just a great villain.
Yeah, Handsome Jack was so good as a villain that he was brought back for the Pre-Sequel and the TellTale adventure game.
no one will ever be as great a villain as Jack. he was the perfect bad guy. a dude that saw himself as the hero, and in a sense, he was. he was just messed up after what happened on the moon.
That's pretty much my only real complaint. The story. Some central characters are just really annoying *cough* Ava *cough* and the villains while not bad pale in comparison to Handsome Jack who (let's be honest) is one of the best video game villains ever concieved.
He's such a good villain he almost feels like a tragic hero. People have argued that he's in the right about ridding pandora of all the bandits and hostile creatures. If all of Pandora looked like Opportunity, the standard of living would be much higher.
I was expecting weaker villans. It's very difficult to top a villan such as handsome jack as he was such a good villan.
I still enjoyed the villans and I liked the games take on stream culture but you just can't beat handsome jack.
Zane was pretty much the only vault hunter who's dialogue is actually entertaining

@@chonker9228 dissagree he just wasn't intuitive. His best build before his new tree was ridiculous. Damage% based on how fast you we're moving and just maxxed out the movement skills. Was very strong.
I think the issue with the new villains for me is that nobody is ever going to come close to the stupidly genius character that handsome jack was, I think I set my standards too high for the twins to be as good and as interesting as him and that wasn't the case. When I think about it their designs are dope, how if one dies the other dies is pretty interesting, and they're just villains for the sake of being villains which is oddly a breath of fresh air since people are so into antagonist with sad back story that forces empathy and pity on them, I do think the whole vlogging thing and what not is sorta cringe but its bearable

@@thelel6591 that's kinda what I tried to say, sorry if I didn't word it well enough to understand. I had high expectations with them because I wanted a new level of handsome jack, and I disappointed myself in the end and now I'm thinking back on the twins all expectations aside and they're not bad villains at all for me, they're very well thought out and have a lot to like about them and I still think of course they're not as good as jack but they're still very likeable
I think the villians had potential in their own right, but I wished they went all in on their narcissism and sociopathic behavior. If they acted differently between echo casting and talking to you one on one, they would have been more interesting like they just swapped faces because pretending to be how they are on stream is tiring. Shit, changing the tone of their voice from ecstatic and full of energy on stream to something more snarky and hateful, it would've been great. They just came off as selfish brats and at no point did I truly believe them to be a threat or actually capable of amassing a following.
I kinda liked how they were cringe, just so it gives you more of a reason to kill them. But that’s just my opinion

I adored this game, but I will say my favorite part of the whole game was when tyreen crushed Ava Lilith and maya under the rubble after you killed Troy, and I kid you not, me and my friends cheered bc we thought Ava had died.

Split screen has been terrible in every borderlands game. But menus in split screen are impossible as it lags the whole thing. Audio is fucked, subtitles are fucked everything could use improvement in split screen.

Playing all the other games with vertical splitscreen was so dope and then with BL3 you're forced to play horizontally. Literally had to stand up and get close to my TV whenever I was looking at gear stats.

I feel like I'm the only human in the world that doesn't have an issue with the driving in Borderlands.

i like the driving in all of the borderlands. not quite sure how its boring but to me its really good.
I don’t either and most of these people haven’t played the other borderlands. The driving is VERY improved in this one with all the mods you can get. A cyclone with the triple booster mod is so satisfying!

Personally, I liked the driving in 2, but not so much in 3. I feel like in 3, you have less control of the vehicle. There's more customization which is fun, but I feel like all the turning is too wide and the brakes don't work as well as in 2

Yeah, his presence felt more natural intertwined into the story. The twins just appear for a minute of dialogue than disappear for hours and so on until you just start fighting them.
As ben may said, it's because he is closer to jack. They couldn't just insert a jack clone as the main villian again.

I thought driving was better in this one. The vehicles actually do damage now.
That plus different customization options can make them drive completely differently. Also drifting actually works now and it makes it 1000x better

I am Borderlands 2 fan, and when I completed Borderlands 3 about three times, I had no feelings to it.
It's something different, not like the second game. I've completed BL2 like, 100 times, and still wanted to play it.
BL3 can be replayed, yes, but this game doesn't feel like.. fun after.
Me too, EXACTLY. Played BL2 for thousands of hours and still do, played 3 all the way through maybe twice, haven’t even completed any DLC. I picked it up every time a new DLC came out and would get halfway through it and just be bored with it again. It just isn’t the same as playing 2. Shame.

I enjoy the dialog for the nostalgia, when I was in middle school it was hilarious, now it just takes me back
I wasn't exactly sure why I didn't hate the dialogue, but this is definitely why. It's almost comforting. I spent days at my friend's house just playing the first borderlands, blasting music while playing Moxxi's underdome. The wack ass dialogue sorta just reminds me of that more than anything.

His major complaints resolve around writing and dialogue and since they were overshadowed by the gameplay and some good moments the final score stays high.

Played it with friends. Had a blast, especially when we were doing quests way above our level. Actually needing to use our abilities tactically (especially Zane's) and select goons to focus fire on was pretty fun. We just chatted or played music over most of the dialogue so that didn't bother us much. Some of us had some vague idea of what the story was about lol. 2/3 through the game one of us asked why we had to open these vaults. We joked that when [redacted] got helplessly killed in the cutscene, we were busy looting and throwing away guns in the other room.
So in other words, the story is written to please Randy Pitchfork's sense of humor.

I had a friend who tried to defend fallout 76 on release by saying it was, "better with friends" and I told him the exact same thing. That literally anything is better with friends, It's funny when people say it's better with friends as if that is a positive. Personally, I think a game should be fun to play alone and with friends if it is striving for that.

When "This girl is on fire" played for the ending credits I almost put the game down for good until I remembered I got to look forward to TVHM and mayhem modes and a bunch of other really fuckin dope GAMEPLAY.
Game's great. Lilith being treated as this goddess who SAVED THE DAY AND "KILLED HANDSOME JACK" made me wanna tear my fucking hair out. Ava never gets a moment to be humbled and it's insulting.

A lot of the side villains characters were really Good in my opinion, katagawa And both traunts I liked a lot

Two things about Borderlands 3
-- Denuvo on PC is controversial, and Epic Games cloud saves system seems to be causing trouble for PC gamers recently
-- The framerate on consoles is TRASH
yeah but it did just launch so it will all be fixed in the next week.
Frame rate is great. I'm on PS4 pro performance mode with 110 fov.
Now in resolution mode yeah ... That's awful.
The framerate in game is fine on my ps4 (just a basic slim not a pro) but the inventory system takes about two or three seconds before it switches tabs. And the framerate goes to a solid 5 when I open my echo sometimes.
I'm on base ps4 and trying to speed menu to change guns in battle or use skill points is actually the worst thing.
Late to the party but the gunplay is definitely the most fun part of this game. The guns feel very good. Wish it had a sort of rogue like tower mode where you move from one randomized map arena to another fighting enemies and finally a boss to go to the next arena starting at level one and if you die you keep your upgrade but start from the bottom with still randomized areas
Totally disagree the graphics are 1000x better, the cel shading looks so clean/animations are way less choppy

The writing feels lazy to me, and the females being the center of the whole game and "badass" felt forced, and also the random vulgarity was tasteless... At least Anthony Birch for BL2 created a believable villain and had some good dialogue.
@@daveh16 Having women as main characters was the least of the writing's problems. Tbh, I felt they underpowered most main characters, particularly two of the women (without going into spoilers.)
The game itself is quite fun I love it, but yeah the optimization issues, the Epic Store drama with the DRM and the bad humor keep the game down from being truly breakout.
I think the villain from the atlas part of the story is better than the twins

I had the privilege of playing borderlands 1 and 2 when I was younger so I found those games humorous, but looking at the trailer for the new one I really can’t get behind it. I think the villains killed it for me.
