Thats crazy how during the day your tent looks white. And in the evening it looks green. You mentioned UP trimming trees. In Ohio there was a conductor killed a couple weeks ago because of downed trees. That may be the reason. SO sad, rite before chirstmas . Anyways, thanks for sharing man. To fix your tint where you can attach the top to a branch, tripod whatever just go inside the tent to the apex of the roof and stick a small ball like a golf ball and tie some string, paracord around it on the outside to make a button. Then attach a loop to the button and you will be able to tie it to anything you like without using a center pole.

Yeah, I would say the urban shelter has seen better days. Maybe salvage everything or repurpose what you can for the lean to shelter. Could possibly use the door to extend roof on the lean to and somehow incorporate the wood stove in there as well.

I have the same tent and wondered how it would do in a storm. This video gave me an idea. I have the same style stove too, and that blast of smoke coming out of the front was surely a down draft with the choke set a bit too low. This is the best hot tent video I have ever seen, and I have seen at least 50.

If you need dry firewood you should use the wood inside the leaning old shack you're going to tear down. Little by little use it up. Then build a new one in spring. Just a thought.

Put some logs underneath the stove and then some rocks atop the logs. It will keep the stove from sinking.
Use a log to hit your knife, NOT hatchet to knife my friend. Shape the log into a mallet. It will save on your knife.

As always love your videos. It's funny how things have changed over the years. My dad would tell me stories about when he would go camping and they did not have the tents like they have today.
Because here in California everywhere you go things are closed and if they were not close you have to go to a state park.
I can't say that I have ever had the opportunity to camp in snow. It looks like fun. Hopefully someday I'll get a chance to experience it.

I keep saying I'm going to work out a tarp set up with a fire inside out in the back yard..just haven't figured out where to get materials yet...maybe some pvc pipe....also need a good sleep set up..

Got to love it, get out there and try not to die... I made the mistake of a fly set up second and was caught in a spring downpour and almost got hypothermia. I switched to a fly first tent by "Snugpac", scorpion 2 . good job Mcgee.

You can reverse setup a freestanding tent w/ a fitted ground cloth w/ grommets & cinch loops for rain setup. Some people don't even bring an inner body.

Tripod gets rid of center pole; I used a prick punch to get a 1/4 nylon rope from inside of tent to outside at peak, tied to ring inside (1&1/2")can use to hang a light, have rope long enough to fasten to the tripod. Make tripod from dead trees or hang from tree limb. I have used rope between 2 trees and tie to it but requires climbing or slinging rope to get necessary height. Enjoying your devotion to the outdoors world.
