Did you notice that I never saw Pee Wee Herman/Paul Reubens speak in a New York comic book convention? Which of the places in America don't have a comic book convention in particular? That's Dallas Texas, Mudvale Utah, Littleton Colorado, Birmingham Alabama, Blytheville Arkansas, Dyersburg Tennessee, Perry Maine, Great Falls Montana, and Anchorage Alaska.
I could seriously listen to Paul talk ALL DAY and not EVER GET BORED. I really wish I could've met him once. I have a feeling we'd have gotten on like a house on fire. I would've liked to have thanked him for everything he did with Pee-Wee for us.
Oh man you can tell at the end that he's really emotional about it you can hear it in his voice and his eyes are tearing up. This man is just pure joy and he's beautiful ❤️
also, for that bit when he related watching the shots just post-large marge, the truck revealing the big dinosaurs, was totally full of 'feels' right then; he knew he had made the right risky decision to wait and find his own director... i always remember that scene too, for the fact that the next shot in reverse is of pee-wee turning around from his spooky experience, that "what just happened?" look lingering on his face, to see the dinosaurs that were revealed in the previous shot, and letting his face suddenly glow with his typically childlike happiness, like, "i'm home! i'm safe now!" before walking into the diner to complete the scene... some other director might've insisted he jump up and down and exclaim "haha! dinosaurs!" or something... burton knew he could communicate that scene completely visually. for that matter, i don't recall even a single word or line of dialog from that scene mentioning the dinosaurs at all... only the other visual/plot jokes of andy ripping up a prop dinosaur-bone to go try to beat up pee-wee. but, face it... from the very beginning - the tour-de-france sequence, thru the rube-goldberg breakfast sequence... "pee-wee's big adventure" is 'just another' 'movie about movies'. and, those are often the -best- movies... ('singin' in the rain'; 'cinema paradiso'...) and, in that context... "pee-wee's big adventure" is tops. no contest.
I was a huge pee wee Herman fan as a young kid in the 80s and early 90s love how movies and used to impersonate pee see as a kid including the tequila dance to make people laugh. Pee wee’s playhouse was so iconic and my favorite show back then. Paul Rueben’s will forever be missed and pee we will live on forever.
He was a sweet and gentle person. I knew him well and he was always excited about life. Forever had a childlike view of the world and it was amazing. We had much unfinished business and he had so many projects he wanted to create! Gone too soon. ❤️
Paul Reubens was truly a special soul! Spent the time not speaking of himself but of others that made his dreams a reality. Hard to believe he was 70 y/o, too young but very glad passed away peacefully with privacy & dignity. He will be missed..
My wife can't stand Pee Wees big adventure it breaks my heart cause it really was such a memorable moment of my childhood... This is a real treat watching this...
I’m 36 years old, I haven’t lived at home in nearly 15 years. Every other few times I get a text or call my parents and ask what they’re doing they’ll say “we’re watching Pee Wee” thank you Paul for the years of happiness and laughter you brought to my family. The fact my parents still watch pee wees big adventure all these years later, is a testament to his impact on us all. And now I get to share him with my son. ❤ #IKnowYouAreButWhatAmI?
I’m 33 gonna be 34 in the summer & I absolutely love Paul Rubens huge part of my childhood . If I did ever get to meet him I’d tell him how much joy I got as a child from watching him on tv even until this day
What's something I never knew about Dick Tracy's enemy Pruneface? He was a Nazi war criminal at first. He was a Nazi engineer who knew how to construct time bombs. The Topps chewing gum author name-called Pruneface the mad bomber. I read it from a Topps chewing gum special magazine issue. 💣
If I was at that club I would have BLOWN A GASKET seeing two of my favorite artists and people walk in. Paul is just magical, I was riveted as always. He left so much legacy and love for us to remember him by. No words can express. 💗✨
RIP Paul Reuben. I'm sorry I didn't appreciate this gifted and talented man enough. I never realized he built this character long before the Big Adventure movie and shows, and even beyond that.
Thank you for sharing this incredible video I watched and loved Pee Wee Herman /Paul Rubens growing up in the 80"s and 90s and shared his shows with my young children too . & I was such a huge fan of this zany cute and cool guy that my awesome mom surprised me on my birthday and bought me a Pee Wee doll with a pull string . Hearing the saddest news of his passing was so devastating it broke my heart since I was one of his biggest fans of this kind hearted brilliant man with a heart of gold .😢💔
this is exactly what i want to see when i watch these kind of things. i dont want mundane questions from audience members that only know the most basic things about someone. i want to hear the interesting stars tell funny inside stories about life and times in the business, a weird wonderland full of bizarre people and crazy incidents. this is just what i want to see and hear. i was actually never a Pee Wee fan, but i LOVED Paul in the old Cheech and Chong films and in many other things through the years. and i came and watched this whole thing because i had seen some short clips from it where he told the story about choosing Burton "whom im also not really a fan of" for the film. and the Bowie and Grace Jones story, and they were so good i wanted to see the rest of the panel.
At 38:46.... Started laughing *again* along with everyone else, cuz of his hilarious humor of going off on a different story etc. And then it quickly turned into tears, and questioning why we had to lose such a bright star. I don't mean star like famous, a star cuz he shone so bright as a person. Good tears of course but sad that he's gone. He brought us all so much joy & laughter and to see him still full of so much life and giving to this audience in such a humble way yet still being 'on' so to say. He's just incredible and so thankful we all got to experience his brilliance & humanity while he was with us. ❤❤❤
Did you notice that you won't find one individual who impersonates Dick Tracy's number one enemy: Flat Top Jones? They don't even impersonate Dick Tracy's number one enemy: Big Boy, especially at any comic book convention you name. Most men and boys who are comic book readers today don't desire Dick Tracy. They know that this character represents a police inspector whose man of the Lord God. They don't even care who his enemies were. Ah, they don't play by the rules. They play dirty. They don't even judge people by age either.
What we didn't know was that Paul was already bravely (and very quietly) battling cancer when he made this appearance. I wonder if that's why he's wearing a cap...?
@@mickys411 His close friend Kathy Griffin said something the other day about brain cancer. Apparently he had a tumor removed about six years ago, and maybe the cancer came back?
I absolutely love everything about Peewee. Everything. But hearing him talk, using his own voice, it was just so soothing. I can listen to him all day and be perfectly happy. He was like no other and I'm still so crushed hes gone. Im just so thankful I grew up when Peewee was at his hype. Being his target audience at the time was such an amazing thing to be a part of. We lost such a great one. ❤
He was witty and charming in person just like he is here. Very fun to hang out with. We worked together a couple times as well. Going back 23 years to Blow.
He really got on with his career early and just like so many famous Actors that one revealing moreal slip and the public just drops .. I was very surprised his strong fan base couldn't jump start his talents more
The problem was that his career wasn't at a high point then. His second movie was not well-reviewed and lost money at the box office. His TV show was already cancelled at the time of his arrest. So his career was already in a mode where it would need to cool down for a while and hope for a comeback later. So the arrest came at a terribly vulnerable time for his career and made any chance of a comeback much more difficult. He wasn't a hot property at that moment so there was little incentive for a studio to take a risk on him. So as years go by with him out of the public eye, his character becomes more forgotten and other comedians appealing to the same audience like Jim Carrey and Mike Myers (in Austin Powers) came in to fill the gap.
It is rare to say that someone from Hollywood is a really good person, but Paul is one of them without a doubt. Down to earth, forever grateful for his fans and success, and probably the biggest heart in Hollywood. So sad we lost him.
I've seen this interview before and it's palpable when Paul gets choked up around 50 minutes in. But now I realize that he was in the midst of his battle with cancer when this was filmed and no one knew that it was coming from a much deeper place when he's telling the audience directly that they mean a lot to him. Oof! RIP Pee Wee.
Just wondering why doesn't Paul do a Pee-Wee animated series now? Animation comedy has blown up into such a huge thing since his original TV show ended. It would get around his aging issue and be an opportunity to let Pee-Wee have more outrageous and surreal adventures than was feasible to do in live-action.
He had a lot of plans. I gave him a script I wrote for a darker pee wee film. I spent a lot of time with him but he ran out of time to do everything he wanted to.
@@KnightEnterprises Too bad. I wish he was able to get more projects going in the late stage of his career. I definitely think transitioning back to the more adult-oriented material of his early stage show would've been the best way to go with the character. Seems like the scandals were always hanging over his head keeping Hollywood from wanting to produce material with him aimed at children.
Yep, it was really important that Pee-Wee got to be scared, angry and vengeful in certain scenes. It made his character more well-rounded and not an overly nice, sweet or perfect guy.
For me, its scary seeing my favorite actors age. In a way, its as if they are gradually walking down a hallway to a door that they will eventually open, walk through and we will never see them again. Its like my childhood is aging and fading away and will eventually be gone forever 😢
Why do we have to lose people like this? RIP Paul, thank you for your art
