You mean early 90s. The adult movie theatre incident happened in 91. But I completely agree with you… there was no internet porn back then, it was either magazine, VHS tape, or adult theatre! He didn’t deserve to have his career ruined for it. I was 8 years old when that happened, the biggest Pee Wee fan, and I remember being so confused by that incident. You must have been the perfect age for this movie. I was 10yo when it came out so by the time it got to cable, where I proceeded to watch it 150x it seems like, I was a little old for it. I still loved it but I couldn’t really follow the further adventures of PeeWee in the sequels and the TV show. I had found girls (Though they hadn’t found me interesting yet) and was obviously too cool for “kid stuff”. That was stupid.

My son was little when Pee-Wee's Big Adventure came out. This was one movie that he and I both loved. My favorite seen was when Pee-Wee was singing song-after-song on a train with an old hobo, and as time wears on Pee-Wee gets more-and-more burned out, finally screaming and jumping off the train, landing near the Alamo. (You have to see it. I'm laughing as I remember.) Still love Paul Reubens.
I'm laughing at your telling the story. My kids too, watched PeeWee when young and I want to be the one to turn the grandkids on to it. They are 4 & 2. (better than watching Frozen AGAIN lol)
So sad to realize that during this time Paul was suffering from cancer and that he has passed away from it. But we can be grateful for the kindness Paul showed in not revealing his illness to us so we could just enjoy seeing and hearing him instead of also being sad because of knowing what he was going through. Of course, it is not wrong for a celebrity to reveal that he/she has an illness. That is something each one has to decide for themselves. There is no right or wrong to it and no reason for hurt or anger because they did not reveal their medical condition. Paul/Pee Wee, we love you, you are terribly missed. I'd say it's still Burton's BEST film. It was the perfect marriage of his very stylized cartoony sensibilities and art direction with the ideal subject matter: Paul Reuben's highly stylized 1950s retro sensibilities and Pee-wee character. Toss in the groundbreaking Danny Elfman score, and they all collaborated to create a one-of-a-kind original comedy masterpiece.

I just saw his show this past weekend in Salt Lake City. I loved his humor, his kind voice, and hearing all his stories. If he's coming to your city, you gotta go see him. ❤️
@Fuck RUclips same here! I was not a fan back then. My husband is a huge fan, so he reminded me and made me realize how fun Peewee was, and still is. I came across a You Tube video of his first show this year, so I looked up his tour schedule and he was here that week in SLC. Sheer luck for us and that there were still tickets.
Beautiful story! Pee Wee's Big Adventure was such an awesome part of mine and my brothers and cousins' childhoods. My grandma had it on VHS and it made the rounds through the extended family and we were always quoting it. I think what's great about classic movies like that is that they DO have that kind of style and attention to detail that's head and shoulders above the norm. And for those of us that find ourselves attracted to the arts, whether drawing, painting, writing, film, acting, music, etc., having influences like that at a young age really opens you up to the possibilities. I totally remember that scene he talked about where Large Marge drives away and reveals the dinosaurs on the other side of the truck. Such a cool transition and it def made an impression on me as a kid.
What a great story told by a fine raconteur. We lost a good one. Paul Reubens may be gone, but long live all his work as Paul Reubens the actor, and Pee Wee Herman the comedic icon, that we still have around to enjoy (plus posts like this)! ❤☮🌎

About 10 years ago when me and my sons mother were dating we were having a movie night at my place and were looking for something to watch. So i asked her if shed ever seen Pee Wees big adventure and she had no idea what i was talking about. She asked what it was about and i said its a comedy and you just have to watch it. She laughed hysterically through the film live i never seen before or since. Of course i was laughing because its a comedic masterpiece and we had a great time. Till this day she has PWBA as her #1 funniest movie of all time. She still watches it from time to time and just loves it. She was saddened by Pauls passing and rewatched it the other night. Thanks for the laughs Pee Wee. RIP
R.I.P Paul Reubens. There’s not been many celebrity deaths that have hit me hard; Adam MCA Yauch, Sir Christopher Lee (who I’d had a long conversation with in 2007) & Ray Harryhausen being 3 that did. But Paul’s death completely caught me off guard & I thought when I found out yesterday, that I’d read the article incorrectly. 😢😢😢
I'm 38 years old so the only two I know mentioned are MCA of the beastie boys and Paul Rubens, and those two were some of my favorite entertainers as well. The death of both these icons has definitely made me cry a little bit as if I lost a family member I cared so much about. 😢
Call it a goofy comedy, but it was a masterpiece in all elements of film making. I'm ashamed to say, but I either didn't know Tim Burton directed, or I forgot. Either way, I don't think anyone else could have done it and made it the epic movie it was.

At 6:35 he mentions a friend who was on ‘Seinfeld’. I spent so long looking up this trivia that I thought I’d share some of the results: Maryedith Ann Burrell (née Smith, born May 20, 1952) Seinfeld S3 E22, “The Parking Space” Seinfeld S5 E6, “The Non-Fat Yogurt” She played the mom of the kid (played by John Christian Graas) who curses after hearing Jerry do so. Maryedith was also on ‘Fridays’ alongside Larry David and Michael Richards in 1980.
I saw this movie in a double feature with Back to the Future with my best friend Matt. One of the greatest nights of my life! RIP, Pee Wee. You were one of a kind.
Ya know, I have so many happy memories from the first time I remember seeing Pee Wee in C & Cs Next Movie, We were saying, "Who is that guy, he is hilarious" and from then on I have watched everything Pee Wee, Paul Reubens , has ever done. I even watched his kid show on Saturday morning and I was an adult! Im a big fan and would love to meet or see him at a comic con. I would just simply thank him for so much great entertainment.
Just looked up who Maryedith Burrell was on Seinfeld: She was the mom that gets mad at Jerry for swearing in front of her kid. She and her husband own the "non-fat" frozen yogurt shop.

Just went to AlamoDraftHouse and Watched Pee Wee’s Big Adventure on the Big Screen once again. We laughed we cried we loved it! Pee Wee brought smiles to people’s faces brought laughter and that’s what most will remember him for. So sad he is gone but will be forever in my heart. 🖤
Tim Burton is a 'singular" director in the truest sense of the word. A style like none other.
@Agent J what?
Was.
Faerie theatre was my youth!!! Omg 80’s ahhh …. 😢❤️ I was a baby…. Not too many know of that series….. I was 23 when I bought the whole series. It stayed with me the whole time. 23 yrs old and I could never forget it. ❤️🫶🏼 so many actors. Liza Minnelli, Jeff Bridges, Mick Jagger!! Etc…. So many ppl. I hold dear in my heart. Paul played Pinnochio!!!
I just saw his show this past weekend in Salt Lake City. I loved his humor, his kind voice, and hearing all his stories. If he's coming to your city, you gotta go see him. ❤️
I heard all tix are sold out :(
Tom Green and Bob goldthwaite played my town a cpl yrs ago . 15 bucks apeice. They were awesome. Love peewee, I'd see him 4 sure
I think Salt Lake was the only city that didn't sell out. I'm sorry you couldn't get tickets. I bet he extends it. Obviously it's a hit. 😁
He was just in SLC?! Sigh. Glad to hear he was fun, hopefully I'll catch him next time.
Such a great storyteller!! RIP Pee Wee 🌹
What an insane creation he made I can't believe he pulled it off too especially with the adult theater charge he was obviously a good person and charismatic and creative enough to power thru it all so endless props to Paul Reubens for being such a badass entertainer!❤
The child porn charges are what killed his career. He was found with photos of underage boys in his “vintage porn” collection. The charges were later dropped.
Paul Reubens is a national treasure.
RIP
Paul was great in "Blow".
He was better in the Cheech and Chong films. #respecttheHamburgerman
@@sayhitosteve2785 HAMBURGARRRRRRRRRR!!!! ;)
I'm NOT sorry i took the Money?
Absolutely love this story. Also the audience adores him.
Could listen to Paul’s stories, all day. Such a beautiful human being. RIP Pee-Wee.
Call it a goofy comedy, but it was a masterpiece in all elements of film making. I'm ashamed to say, but I either didn't know Tim Burton directed, or I forgot. Either way, I don't think anyone else could have done it and made it the epic movie it was.
It was Tim Burton's directorial debut, as well as Danny Elfman's scoring debut on a feature length film.
Classic film. Please read my books. On kdp. Similar approach of PW.
Thomas C. Stuhr
RIP to a true legend. :(
I cannot fathom anyone but Tim Burton directing Pee Wee's Big Adventure
I love this so much. God bless you, Paul. There’ll never be another like you.
The child porn charges are what killed his career. He was found with photos of underage boys in his “vintage porn” collection. The charges were later dropped.
Paul Reubens has become so much more fascinating than any of us watching his TV show or Mug Shot could have imagined. Thank you internet.
I'm just like this. I never miss an opportunity to cram a five minute story into half-an-hour.
At 6:35 he mentions a friend who was on ‘Seinfeld’. I spent so long looking up this trivia that I thought I’d share some of the results:
Maryedith Ann Burrell (née Smith, born May 20, 1952)
Seinfeld S3 E22, “The Parking Space”
Seinfeld S5 E6, “The Non-Fat Yogurt”
She played the mom of the kid (played by John Christian Graas) who curses after hearing Jerry do so.
Maryedith was also on ‘Fridays’ alongside Larry David and Michael Richards in 1980.
"Where's my fucking cupcake?"
Runs off to watch Fridays on Tubi ... I vaguely remember it . Nit disappointed by the opening clip .
Thanks
Friday's wow I vaguely remember Richards playing with the army men and burning them and all other things.
Thank you so much... I had no idea and am a big fan of Seinfeld.
He is the best... so touching to still be emotional about a scene cut. Real.
Such a soft spoken genius!
Let's not forget the great Phil Hartman wrote the script with him and Paul never mentions him. SAD!
god i still cant believe hes gone :( Pee Wee's Big Adventure is hands down the best Pee Wee movie of all time
I could just sit and listen to his stories all day. I grew up watching Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, but Paul himself just seems lovely to talk to.
I saw this movie in a double feature with Back to the Future with my best friend Matt. One of the greatest nights of my life! RIP, Pee Wee. You were one of a kind.
Epic!
@@FreeTheTrolls It took us days to process what we had seen and ended up watching both of them multiple times over the following weeks.
Bless you Paul!!!! Thank you for being part of my childhood ❤❤
i had no idea he had gotten so big, but he sounds so happy here.
Funny, intelligent and well spoken. RIP.
Just looked up who Maryedith Burrell was on Seinfeld: She was the mom that gets mad at Jerry for swearing in front of her kid. She and her husband own the "non-fat" frozen yogurt shop.
I met him in 2018 here in Orlando. Really nice guy. Down to earth.
so glad he did, Tim Burton's stylish darkness his films have made the movie so great. Pee wees big adventure movie is pretty dark!
God bless Paul and his creation, Pee-wee Herman. He didn't deserve being cancelled that way by the news media. Long live Paul Reuben for all the imagination and laughs he brought to us.
RIP Paul Reubens. He always made me laugh.
What a guy. So fortunate to have grown up with him. We miss you, Pee Dub.
“I love that story!”
-Pee Wee Herman
Rest in peace!
He’s so full of energy here that we never knew he had been battling cancer
He was a true fighter
I love this man and his contribution. he is by turns, humble... insightful... and hilarious. He left=we lost.
Wow, he's really charming and laid back.
That was such a fun, endearing story to listen to. Pee Wee’s Big Adventure was always one of my favorite movies.
Pee wee's big adventure is such a happy movie .
why do we appreciate the people we enjoy, more after they are gone....he should have gotten more recognition while he was alive. IF you have nice things to say to loved ones.... don't wait to say them! Said them to your loved ones now.
Great comedic timing, he always had it
This man was such a huge part of my entire generation's childhood and lives in general. From the old school HBO Pee Wee comedy special, to Pee Wee's Big Adventure to the Saturday morning show. He was like an uncle. And he also had the greatest vampire death scene in movie history. RIP Uncle Paul.
Fun fact: Rob Zombie was an art director on Pee Wee's Playhouse.
How lucky to be in that room & hear that story.
Rest in Peace Paul Reubens, from another Paul. :(
R.I.P Paul thanks for the joy you gave us
What a beautiful man. So gentle and kind and creative. I’m so sorry he’s not with us anymore.
What a funny and humble man, he always was one of my heros and still now is firmly in place 😎👌👏 r.i.p to the legend that is pee wee herman(Paul reubens)he will always be missed.
I will miss his talent ,I have learned so much from his silly voice ,with PAUL on stage comedy he made me feel comfortable being silly. You will be greatly missed in the comedy world
I always assumed Paul Reubens and Tim Burton went to CalArts together or knew each other because they went to the same school. -- RIP Pee-Wee
Love this guy also, I grew up with him. I show my kids all of pee wee playhouse shows.
He is so effortlessly funny. 😭😭😭 RIP
Rest Easy funny man Paul Ruebens, thank you for all the happiness and laughs. We love you, Sir
I have gained a lot of appreciation for Paul Reubens watching this type material over the last few days.
RIP Paul…. You were truly loved by a whole generation
Rest easy, Paul! We love you forever~
