I had one of these jackets a few years back, and LOVED it. Material, style, fit, everything was spot on.
Unfortunately one night I got caught in some very heavy rain and had to walk in it for about half an hour or so. Came home, hung the jacket on a rack to dry. The next morning the jacket had SHRUNK considerably! I would say it went down a full size (shortened in sleeve length, and slimmer overall.) I was pretty frustrated by this and reached out to Buzz Rickson's to complain. They came back to me saying that this kind of shrinkage simply isn't possible with this type of jacket, and that they couldn't do anything for me. I ended up selling the jacket a few weeks later..
To this day I'm still confused by the whole experience, and always wonder if anyone else has had the same kind of shrinkage lol!

Another great review Diego. I tried to get an Oiled black Iron Heart version recently for my son but they'd all gone in his size. Im like you, in that i prefer the traditional colours. I think id even prefer a early blue version.

Great jacket, if the sleeves were not polyester ("poly micro fleece" they call it). Why not just use natural fabrics throughout the jacket?

Great overview. I picked up one back in 2018 and loved it. Outgrew it and decided to pick up the newer model. Sadly, quality of the lining has decreased. Blend is the same (40% alpaca, 35%wool, and 25% cotton) but its alot less thick. My only gripe with this jacket. Hope it will be as warm.
Edit: i did not get the demotex one. Maybe i should have.

Just ordered a Pike Brothers one. I tried on the Real McCoy's and Buzz Rickson ones and the RMC one was too small and the BR Demotex one imo too expensive after the price increase and I didn't necessarily want the US NAVY stencil on the back. The RMC one was beautifully made and I would have bought it if it fit.

Hi! Good point, but I think this jacket has not been in service since the 60s; it is a historical piece; moreover, in the late 40s and 50s in the US, it was used by civilians who were in service and who never were in service.
The Iron Heart version is an excellent jacket!!!

Like I was saying I actually love the jacket and I do see it as a histrionic piece . I was only referring to myself as a person who didn’t serve I would feel awkward explaining if someone asked but the jacket is badass and the video was very informational and I appreciate you guys who put out these product reviews . Keep the videos coming . Another thing with regard to the stenciling I generally don’t like any logos or stenciling on anything I wear.

With all due respect I admire this video and the time it took to make etc. However, first of all these jackets were meant to be worn with the shirt tucked into one's pants. This is late 1940s. The blue cotton sailor's shirt were made quite well and provided ample length to wear inside one's pants. See SM Wholesale USA. This looks bit off with shirt going below hem of jacket. Secondly, if you cannot wear an N1 with a light sweater as Paul Newman did after his service in the Navy it is too tight. What I like about this video is how he discusses Asian sizing. I believe these jackets are All made in China. Buzz is simply made to higher Japanese and military specifications. So yes a Size 44 which is a Large should be XX Large. A Medium is X Large and a Small is Large. That was my experience with a similar Asian N1 make. I recommend SM Wholesale USA for utilitarian modal. It seems the Asian modals are often cut tight perhaps to save money on fabric or to appeal to contemporary trends which do not fit historical reality. At the moment most clothes are worn tight to save on fabric because we are still in a recession, and because fashion tends to fluctuate between roomy and tight fitting. We are currently in tight fitting mode etc.
