Excellent comparison. The Real McCoys/blue jacket replicates the first version of the N-1 jacket from late 1943. The Buzz Rickson/khaki jacket replicates the later 1944 version. Hence the small differences in some of the details. Buzz Rickson does one version of their khaki N-1 with the heavyweight alpaca/wool lining (this one also has the additional small DEMOTEX tag/label) and a second version w/ thinner/standard alpaca/wool lining - which should fit and feel more similar to the lining in the blue Real McCoys version. The Real McCoys N-1 looks like the quality of the fabrics/lining is slightly better than the Buzz Rickson jacket. However - in my humble opinion - the thicker/looser khaki BR N-1 just looks more 'authentic' (or cooler) to me. I have owned both BR versions over the years - and I kept the khaki/heavweight jacket. You wear them both well! With winter coming, I hope you will have ample opportunity to enjoy them both. Thanks for all your reviews - they have helped me with a good number of buying-decisions in the past. Your efforts are much appreciated.
I sold my Real McCoy's and bought an Iron Heart IHM-35 Alpaca-Lined Whipcord N1 Deck Jacket Black/Black, which suits my physique better. Quality and price aside, the best thing is to try them all and choose the one that suits you best. Thanks for the honest review.
Great video comparison .. personally, I like the Real Mccoy’s version I have the blue version you are featuring and I have the iron heart in khaki . I like the fit on both equally. The buzz rickson sleeves seem long and I don’t like longer sleeves I’d rather not roll them up . With the Real McCoy or Iron heart N1s I dont have to roll them up and the sleeve openings are more tapered on both.. the buzz rickson sleeve opening is a bit wide .
Really helpful comparison. Would be interested in your thoughts on the Freewheelers N-1, it’s super expensive but considered the best version by some. As a tall slim guy, I find it hard to carry off the short boxy style of the N-1, which is a shame as I love the heritage and style of the jacket
Thank you!! Let's talk about Freewhelers: the price is steep. In some places, It says the lining is 100% alpaca. In others, it is 70% wool and 30% alpaca (I'm more inclined to believe the second). The quality is outstanding but not better than that of The Real Mcoys or BR. My thoughts: I don't justify spending that money on this jacket unless you really want this brand or don't care about the price tag and would like to have the jacket. Remember, if we are talking about the outer shell (jungle cloth), only one or two mills in Japan produce the fabric, and they are more likely to be the same as those provided to TRM or BR.
Thanks for sharing your insight, it means a lot coming from someone with your knowledge. Think I’m going with the Real MCoys and save myself £400! Videos are great, please keep it going 🤓
@@WillSnyder-g9z The TRM looks shorter than the BR because it is a slim fit. I don't know how tall you are, but there is a downside to the BR: If you are skinny, it is going to look loose unless you don't care. My recommendation is the TRM, which looks very stylish compared to the BR.
Thanks for the comparison! I really like my BR heavyweight N1 but I eventually had to resew EVERY button on the front back on. When my attachment jobs started to let go as well I gave up and sewed on a row of slotted buttons like you’ll find on Canadian military parkas, hopefully job done. I think the problem may be twofold: the buttons the jacket comes with are slightly too big for the holes, and they’re sewn on flush to the fabric instead of shanked. My option fixes both of these problems as the slotted buttons are ever so slightly smaller and the tape holding them on has a bit of lift to allow easier insertion.
The more alpaca, the less itchy it is; in my experience, if the wool is good quality, there is almost no itchiness. Wearing both the less itchy is The Real McCoys
Urban Lad this is out of the review. BY any chance do you know where i can find the Mackinaw rancher coat, Lee made a repro a two years a go bat i cant found it new or any repro. Except the Mackinaw military...apreciate. I am going for another navy deck jacket bat silvermans. Thanks pal
I'd like to get an N1 jacket to use on my motorcycle because of its wind resistance, but I'm definitely going to get one that doesn't say USN. The Real McCoy's looks promising.
I have 2 of the buzz rickson and the iron-heart, i like the iron-heart fit, i tried the original too, the buzz ricKson and the original are boxy , also kinda itchy coz its lined all the way to the sleeves. The iron-heart wins my heart fit is 10/10 for me , i wear small by the way I am 5”10 -157lbs 39chest🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
At these prices, I would just buy an original from the 1940s or 1950s. I think my one cost like 200 USD, and it looks so much better due to the aging. I'm not sure why anyone would pay more for a reproduction than a real N1 jacket.

Looking forward to this comparison review.
Great comparison. Now I’m curious about your thoughts on the IH N1 compared to these two.
IH is a no-brainer, cheap, and of good quality with an improved fit. The only downside is for the people who want the original specs
@ thank you!
It was a good video, I personally like both colours, I think I prefer the short pile in the Real Mc Coys.
Me too, looks more stylish the Blue one!!
@@UrbanLadUK I agree.

The IH is in my list for the next year in black!!!
Curious what your care routine is for this type of jacket. Do have hand wash or dry clean? Experience any post wash shrinkage?
I dry clean when necessary. I don't put this jacket in the washing machine
great video, thanks!
Thank you for watching!!!!

The BR pick the fitting or the original Kakhi jacket, the blue version has a slim fitting with looks and feels better 👍👍👍

TRM is an excellent jacket!!
What would you recommend for a tall skinny guy? This is a great jacket but I agree. I’d love a long version.

I always wanted to buy one but am concerned about the itchiness due to the wool and alpaca lining. How itchy is each one? Which one is itchier?

Sorry, I have no idea, Maybe on eBay. But I will check around the web

There is a version of BR that has no inscription and is cheaper I believe on Klatxon Japan's website

how tall are you, my friend?
184 cm or 6.04 feet
@ im 5’11 180 lb should I get 42 or 44 for the real Mccoy?
Probably 42 if your chest measurements are below 44 inches
I found a vintage 'golden fleece' spiewak one about 15years ago for £2 in Afflecks palace
Wow!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

They are expensive that's why is no-no for many people
@@UrbanLadUK These jackets are even more expensive, so I'm not sure if that makes sense.
What I mean is the BR or TRM are too expensive for many people
@@UrbanLadUK Ah, I understand now.
I have a Bronson that I wouldn’t trade for e of these.
Bronson is good quality at an affordable price
