I just wanted to say thanks Evan for putting up this video. I had heard of copic markers but you showed me what they could do with this vidoe. This is the video where I decided to get my first 12 cool copic grey marker set and after that some could say I went a little crazy with buying markers after that. I have about 430 markers now. Copic and Prismacolor. I've went marker crazy. Thanks for putting out great videos like this Evan.
The thing I love about Copics, is that it is almost like coloring with watercolors. The blending, and layering act in a very similiar manner to watercolors, but lack the need to concern yourself with as much lack of color and bleeding, plus worrying about water saturation in your paper. Oh, and I would love to see Black Cat done with Copics...shiny leather always comes across really well using them. Thanks!
i just got a set of these marker and was sooooo lost on how to use them...ive been a broke artist so long i was so accustomed to brush...but the tutorial...really help me out so now i have the confidence to use them....
These videos really make me want to draw again! I have some of those pencils Freddie Williams uses but didn't know how to use them!! Lol! Can't wait to try. I was trying to do some ink wash stuff last time I sat down to draw.
This is great! Copic markers always seem like such a difficult beast when I pick them up. Your tutorial taught me how to tame the beast. Thank you sir.
God I wish copics weren't so expensive. I only have 3. I couldn't really afford much, and the store I got them at didn't have a huge selection. So I figured instead of getting 3 random colors that didn't go together, I ended up getting 3 of the Cool Grey markers. C1, C3, and C5. My thought was, that at least I'd have 3 similar ones, and I could use it for b/w drawings. Turns out, they're like, my favorite things ever, but I still haven't gotten any more. I can't exactly afford like $5 per marker.
Ebay has quite a few "lots" that are sold at around $3-$4 per marker. You might also consider opting for copic Ciao. They're the same as copic sketch with slight design differences and they hold less ink, but since copics are refillable you'll just end up refilling it more often than sketch markers. They're much cheaper, though.
The explanation and step by step video really helped understanding why ur doing it the way ur doing ....would love to see something like this with a splash of color...anyway ur videos really help with growing my overall artistic ability
I'd love to see you draw and color The Green Lantern, I think that'll be an awesome how-to-video with all the light effects from his ring and lantern! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos Evan, they are truly helpful in so many ways and they learned me it's never too late to follow a dream!
Really awesome drawing! Looks great! Though I'd like to mention that you can, in fact, go from darkest to lightest with copic sketch. I've used them for a few years now and practiced both ways. Basically going lightest to dark builds the colour but you can easily see the differences in tones, giving it a cell-shaded look, whereas going darkest to light blends the colours and gives it a softer feel. Neither is right or wrong, it's just what you prefer. I use both methods :)
Thank you sir this video was very helpful it was one of many videos I watch to see if I should get the copic markers you are a fantastic artist. I got my copic makers in today, and they are as amazing as you make them look, I took a break from drawing just to thank you. I appreciate it sir. Have a blessed day I just subscribed to your channel thanks again.
I know I'm late in the game but I definitely woul like to see Wolverine colored in Copic or just simply using the Copic grey Sketch markers. I do like your channel. I can't stop watching some of the great artwork from the comic pencilers that I admire. Keep them coming cause I'm not gonna stop watching... LoL
Great tutorial mate! Using Batman was a good call to demonstrate these markers. I just got a set if these yesterday and I'm liking around for ways to use them, and your tutorial gave me some good tips for when I start to use them; so thank you! Also, my eyes caught that Teen Titans, Robin figure in the back. Cool piece you have there!
Storm would be awesome as a drawing. It'd be interesting to see the use of skin tone and the use of negative space for her hair. Add in lightening for a chance of mixing yellows and blues.
Im 13 and I love to draw and I've always wanted to get copics but I never really learned how to use them and after I saw this video it really helped me so thank you, and nice video!
Thanks for this video. I want to do value when drawing comics, and not just make it stark black and white, but I tend to abuse crosshatching to do that value, so using greys is definitely the best alternative to over the top crosshatching.
I would absolutely love to see classic Lobo (Simon Bisley) Style I loved this episode and as a graphic design student and comic book enthusiast you have serious skills. well done sir.
Akuma From the Street Fighter Series. He has bright tone's and plenty of line's that would amazing to see done with the COPIC pen's. And he has so many shape's that would be cool to see also done with the bright color's and the cool gray.
Nice work! :) I'm using the neutral grays for some design work and learned a lot even if this isn't my area. Would've been great to see the whole picture finished in the end, though.
I'd like to see a rendering of Kyle Rayner as the White lantern - specifically using the ring, so as to illustrate some of how the markers can be used to illustrate plasmas, etc.
Do you prefer the cool greys to the warm greys? When I use my copics, I generally use the warm greys, because they also work well with water soluble pencil. Very nice work, I like the look of the darker portion of his cowl as it comes forward, with the gradations visible around the edges. I'm gonna have to do some copic sketches now!
Sandman from the JSA because he has really fun colors to him and you can have somes fun with how the smoke emits from his body and the colors would really make him cool
Hi Evan, loving your videos... question > You are going over the same areas several times with these markers, is there a weight or type of paper you specifically use... or will good ol printer paper work? Thanks!
War I will use the markers for is the comic I am creating. It will help me with the shading. And I won't have to use a blending stick and pencil and make a big mess.
I think you should color a sketch of Silver Surfer with grey Copics. It'd really be a challenge to get the chrome look just right and I feel you can pull it off, Evan. :D
nice drawing dude. I'm more of a pencil guy, thinking about getting some copics. Can I use them to make realistic faces or are they more for anime/cartooning?
Which direction is the light coming from? You have highlights both right and left side as well as on the nose (but then dark shadow right next to the nose). Does this mean light is coming from the right but with reflected light on the left? I find lighting a very tricky subject :)
You must do a copic coloring of any character from the new 52's the Red hood and the outlaws, such as red hood, starfire, arsenal, etc. I would love to see you use the copics on one of them.
Yup bought 5 today. Checked out a book on drawing robots and some of the photos are in color. Gonna draw every single one. Each uses a different color scheme. Should be educational. Nice work.
I have a question I hope you can answer My copic markers are already running out of ink is this normal? I have only sketched about 12 to 13 not so big not so detailed drawings.
+hansendesigns I got the bleed proof paper suggested for them But I am now starting to buy the refills I guess they just sent them to me half full. Because once I filled them they are lasting longer now. Thanks again
huh theres so many i can think of but im thinking i would really like to see goku or any dbz character really.. i think the copics would work great for shading the hair an clothes of goku :).. awesome video man happy to see some content keep up the great work..
I'd personally like to see wolverine colored in these markers. Wolverine has so many bright colors in his costume, but his personality is king of dark and scary, so it'd be cool to see a drawing like that
I have to ask you... have you ever played with Golden's "shading gray" fluid acrylic? (Lovely for shading sketches and works beautifully on gesso). Your shading technique made me think of it. Goodness, the magic you could probably create with that stuff! Anyway, your tutorials are wonderful. Yay you! And if I've planted the seed in your head to do a tutorial on shading with fluid acrylic, then yay me! :D
I'd love to see a great copic colored version of Hal Jordan's Green Lantern- the comic version. You've already done a great version of the cartoon Hal Jordan.
I have registered myself at Copic. If I were t request you to colour a character, it would be: Frieza, because of the intricate shadows that are created from all the shapes on his body. P.S. I have been subscribed to you for a LONG time and I really look up to you when I draw.

@Will Santos ikr. ;'(
Amazing. I'm just floored at how good these markers make the art look!
The thing I love about Copics, is that it is almost like coloring with watercolors. Oh, and I would love to see Black Cat done with Copics...shiny leather always comes across really well using them. Thanks!
I use regular printer paper for this drawing. The ink blends better. But you can also use bristol board too.
i just got a set of these marker and was sooooo lost on how to use them...ive been a broke artist so long i was so accustomed to brush...but the tutorial...really help me out so now i have the confidence to use them....
Didn't realise until now just how versatile Copics are. You've sold me on them.
Solid Batman by the way. Really digging the values. Nice work.
Just got my first set of copics and really so thankful I found this tutorial because using them is honestly daunting.
I'm starting a world of warcraft character drawing with these markers... Wow do I love them. Everything seems so vibrant.
God I wish copics weren't so expensive. I only have 3. I couldn't really afford much, and the store I got them at didn't have a huge selection. Same here :P
They're just as expensive as legos.
TXF what do you think is better: 0,1,3,5,7,9 cool grey or 0,1,2,4,6,8 cool grey. Right now i have no cool greys so i wanna add to my collection.
There's a lot of good alternatives... "promarkers" are pretty cheap
Brilliant video and a great Batman drawing! This is really helpful, I’ve just bought the cool grey 5 pack and this is useful to see your process.
The explanation and step by step video really helped understanding why ur doing it the way ur doing ....would love to see something like this with a splash of color...anyway ur videos really help with growing my overall artistic ability
I've always used water color pencils then markers to get the soft blending, but you convinced me to give alcohol markers a try...thanks!
I finally got some Copic Markers.
I have a feeling your videos are going to be very useful :)
Micah Buzan it’s not trust me never go over pencil with your marker it will ruin the brush tip
I'd love to see you draw and color The Green Lantern, I think that'll be an awesome how-to-video with all the light effects from his ring and lantern! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos Evan, they are truly helpful in so many ways and they learned me it's never too late to follow a dream!
Great video! You really have mastered those grays.
Thanks Kenny
+cartoonblock I'm looking to buy a set of gray copic markers which set would you recommend out of the cool warm and neutral sets
Nice tutorial on the Copic Gray Sketch Markers. Gonna start doing that on my sketchbook.
This has to be the best channel I've subscribed to so far!

LoL

Great! I'm glad you're learning & becoming inspired.
Storm would be awesome as a drawing. It'd be interesting to see the use of skin tone and the use of negative space for her hair. Add in lightening for a chance of mixing yellows and blues.

Nice work! :) I'm using the neutral grays for some design work and learned a lot even if this isn't my area. Would've been great to see the whole picture finished in the end, though.
