Sick finger bandage man! Here's one from me: If you want to off color a 2H weapon or chest piece as the first step to crafting (so say you have a fractured prefix item to start), alt spamming for "The Worthy" (18% reduced attribute reqs; ilvl 32) or "The Apt" (32% reduced attribute reqs; ilvl 60) first will save you a ton whether you want to straight up chrome or do the jeweler orb trick with the bench. That's because, as you said, color likelihood is based on absolute req requirements and not relative ones so the reduced requirements mod will make the color differences less extreme. On a related note, if you are using a 2H weapon where you don't care about the base damage (i.e. say you are using a bow but its only purpose is +levels to your 6L there), you want to use the lowest base that has the implicit you want (i.e. Reflex Bow is better than Steelwood Bow). That's because an earlier base has lower stat requirements and is therefore easier to off-color.

I think you wanna 2 sockets before at least 2 red sockets. Else you can end up with socket 1 and 3 being red and when you 2 socket you'll have 1 blue and 1 red :)
Bonus tip: You can also use Awakened PoE Trade to automatically search the wiki for an item's base or a unique by pressing Alt + W while hovering over the item in question. You can also export the item directly to the Craft of Exile calculator by pressing Alt + C (I think those are the default keybindings).
Usually for a cloak of flame on RF I like to run 2 red 3 green and 1 blue for fire trap six link, what I do for that is usually corrupt then use tainted chromes

GREAT TIP for lv100 as a glass cannon. do t16 maps with zero juice i mean nothing not even a chisel and do NOT kill bosses and do NOT do hard league mechs. JUST KILL MOBS. you can easily go from 90-100 solo no carry. hope this helps anyone.

It's worth clarifying that quality DOES improve off color socket chances, but only while using chromes. If you use jeweller's on the crafting bench it doesn't help with off color sockets.

Happened years ago but Empy and his crew figured out that you could pause the Ultimatum timer in Survival encounters if one person left the ring, essentially giving you far far more monsters and loot than was intended. They reported the bug instantly and he and his entire group was banned. Whereas now we have people showing how to make bugged 6 socketed items on stream, thousands of people do it aaaand nothing. So yeah I don't understand what the rules are with exploits anymore

I usually absolutely love crafting in games and in MMO I try to be one of the best craftsmen, but in PoE, it's just.... unnecessarily complex/unintuitive and the overall UI is really bad.

Just because it's over your head doesn't mean it's "unnecessarily complex" that's a selfish statement that only reflects your personal experience. That doesn't mean it's unnecessarily complex. It's versatile. The more you know about crafting, the easier and more profitable it is. Uet, not surprisingly, you do not NEED to know how to craft anything to enjoy the game. So if you suck at it, you suck at it... It means you don't like it. That's not a reason to change the entire experience for the entire player base. You want an easier crafting experience go play Diablo

Socketing tip:
Type in the regex: Three|Four
It will only come up with the socket/fusing options, which reduces your clicks significantly.
Also prevents you from clicking Two Socket or Four Socket when doin 6Link by accident! Very helpful
So if I type in Six I will get 6-link faster?

Actually it always applies those socket colours to the first sockets available :) so you don't need to go down to 2 sockets first!

The rings are more popular because many builds need other prefix mods (+1 gem level etc.), rings don't have as many good prefixes.

Nope, that's not true. It always changes the colour of the first sockets when you use the bench craft. Test it in game if you don't believe me :)
