I had a theory where Saitama's power came from. The 100 exercise training that he did was a part of it but taking from the overall theme of the show, I think he got his powers from the bananas that he kept eating while training. You see the monsters in the show got their powers related to what they ate like the crab dude or a random power from the monster cells. But how does his immense strength connected to the banana? Well, bananas are a bit radioactive so only eating bananas during his entire training triggered his immense super strength. How about his durability? That one is from his intense training, the 100s training every single day. Thanks to the bananas, it helped him break his limiter. In addition, his harsh training raised his psychic resistance and increased willpower which makes it hard to attack him mentally (just dont mention he's bald). But if Saitama did get his power from the banana, why did not transform into a monster like what happens to every monster there? Saitama did transform. Remember when he lost all his hair and became bald? That's the transformation. The only reason why he didn't became 10 feet tall monster is that bananas share 60% of the same DNA as humans which is why he still remains a human unlike other things the monsters ate. Saitama in the end is just a simple character with almost zero origin, which is what One has always envisioned opm as(he even agrees to it in many interviews). The manga has been deviating quite a bit from the webcomic version, so I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the information in the webcomic changes after a few decades when the manga finally catches up.

Consider ground dragon merely trying to flee and Saitama killed him, while Fubuki tried to cut his head off with a box cutter and next thing you know he's carefully protecting her life. Why such different treatment? This really bothered me, I think he should be a symbol of ultimate justice after all, that means that a monster shouldn't get treated worse just for being a monster and a pretty girl shouldn't get favoritism just for being a pretty girl, and equal behavior should get equal treatment from Saitama.
You know, Sonic took a Saitama tap to the balls and was in a ton of pain, but when Saitama barely taps Genos' face, he completely shuts down. Sonic must have some insane durability. I've never thought about that before.

Except that it's not gear, but his actual level. So it's more like a RPG where the levels go up to a maximum of 999 but because of a glitch, your character started at level 999. It kind of makes more logical sense than the norm anyway. For instance, isn't it incredibly lucky for Goku that literally everyone he fought in his life just coincidentally came to him in order of ascending strength? It would have been a disaster for him if they had occurred in literally any other order. Imagine if right after facing the Red Ribbon Army as a child, his next foe was.... Majin Boo. And pretty much any anime of the same genre is the same way. I see Saitama and Onepunch Man as a subversion of that. He faces his adversaries in random order, but he starts out with the strength to take them all out.... but as a natural consequence of that fact, most of his fights are going to be incredibly one-sided.

Saitama's source of power is the universe itself. Let me explain: It’s pretty clear why he got the strength he has. In this universe, you become what you strongly desire. Everyone who is formed into something has an obsession of some kind and heavily works with this obsession. Lobster, garbage, car...etc Those monsters were manifestations of the things they strongly felt about or strongly a part of Saitama worked very hard and was obsessed with becoming one of the strongest people so he could be a hero. And his obsession made him the strongest character. Garou worked hard and was obsessed with becoming an evil monster and ended up turning into one. That’s how this universe is, so a theory of mine is Saitama is the strongest in the universe, but just strong enough to beat god, because if he wanted to be the strongest person/hero, he'd have to surpass who was previously the strongest. and that happens to be God.
this is also my theory, he wanted to be strong enough to beat crablante and it was also his dream when he was still a child. Meanwhile, Sarkshine wanted to be not skinny and wanted to have the perfect muscles so when he got what he wanted it stopped there, this also applies to many other non transforming heroes and monsters.
his desire was specifically "i want to be a hero strong enough to defeat all the bad guys in one punch" so thats what he became. so technically his power may not be just "the strongest", but rather he will always be strong enough to win in one punch. the only times he doesnt do this are because he doesnt try to, intentionally holding back vs boros. or because the enemy gains a massive power boost like garou copying saitama. saitama could have one hit garou but held back, then garou copied him, then out of nowhere saitamas power level skyrocketed. probably because he still had to be strong enough to beat this new garou in one punch. so theorhetically if an opponent is stronger than him, he just instantly gains power until he can easily win.

i like that genos is technically a standard shonen protagonist. tragic backstory that still motivates him. good heart and willing to self sacrifice. edgy, cool design with many named attacks. gets recognition from those around him, and easily makes alliances. (tatsumaki and drive knight both acknowledge him and agree to team ups) gets stronger after every fight. the issue is he showed up in episode 2. and there were like 3 fights in episode 1. so he showed up at level 1 but the monsters were already like level 5. so he is perpetually behind in levels.
Genso checking out the french fry is exactly the same as players in a game of DnD where the DM adds a particular object, and players have a look, cast spells and what not, every time: its a spoon, or other inanimate object.

To explain why Saitama is so strong is easy. He was just a simple human who had no real potential or hidden ability or any kind of op gift to make him strong. In fact as a child he was constantly bullied and beaten, even when he tries to be heroic, it didn't do anything. The reason he became so powerful is because he trained his body so hard that it became immune to any form of fatigue or stress because he broke what we call a limiter. Limiter is basically the end of what we can do at a certain form of task or subject that we normal humans have. Like holding your arms up for a while until we get too tired to keep them up and need to wait a bit to do it again. Like a stamina bar that once gone, needs rest to be back and use it again. Saitama training schedule may seem basic and simple, but here's where it gets interesting. Saitama did this non stop, with no rest or pause in his work out even once, and did this DAILY for 3 YEARS! (Thx for the notice of error exiled_cyborg) Ordinarily you would need a few days of rest to let your body heal up and be good, but Saitama kept going even when he was destroying his body over and over again. He once broke his bones doing this and still continued to do it even when his body was physically incapable of going on. So what happen was that Saitama kept doing his training until his body ended up getting used to the stress and pain that it removed his ability to have a stamina or pain limiter anymore. Saitama became physically powerful to the point his worlds law of physics can't really hurt or do anything to him because his body has adapted to the point it's basically invulnerable. So basically Saitama is like a new game with a character that has all the buffs, points, and abilities a human can possibly ever achieve and do in the beginning of the game. Because of this there's no challenge because in the end, he would win because he's too powerful and nothing can hurt him anymore.

To explain why Saitama is so strong is easy.
He was just a simple human who had no real potential or hidden ability or any kind of op gift to make him strong.
In fact as a child he was constantly bullied and beaten, even when he tries to be heroic, it didn't do anything.
The reason he became so powerful is because he trained his body so hard that it became immune to any form of fatigue or stress because he broke what we call a limiter.
Limiter is basically the end of what we can do at a certain form of task or subject that we normal humans have.
Like holding your arms up for a while until we get too tired to keep them up and need to wait a bit to do it again.
Like a stamina bar that once gone, needs rest to be back and use it again.
Saitama training schedule may seem basic and simple, but here's where it gets interesting.
Saitama did this non stop, with no rest or pause in his work out even once, and did this DAILY for 3 YEARS! (Thx for the notice of error exiled_cyborg)
Ordinarily you would need a few days of rest to let your body heal up and be good, but Saitama kept going even when he was destroying his body over and over again.
He once broke his bones doing this and still continued to do it even when his body was physically incapable of going on.
So what happen was that Saitama kept doing his training until his body ended up getting used to the stress and pain that it removed his ability to have a stamina or pain limiter anymore.
Saitama became physically powerful to the point his worlds law of physics can't really hurt or do anything to him because his body has adapted to the point it's basically invulnerable. So basically Saitama is like a new game with a character that has all the buffs, points, and abilities a human can possibly ever achieve and do in the beginning of the game.
Because of this there's no challenge because in the end, he would win because he's too powerful and nothing can hurt him anymore.
