    It was the same principle when they started listing prices as $19.99 instead of outright saying $20. It wasn't so that they could technically say that it was under $20, it was because most people would see a "1" in the 10's place of the price instead of a "2" and immediately think "cheaper" without paying attention to all four numbers, therefore missing that it's only cheaper by a mere penny.

    • @JustAnotherPerson4U
      @JustAnotherPerson4U 2 месяца назад +13

      That's part of it.
      But part of is also a historical reason. It was to stop Cashiers from taking money from the shop. Because if your boss is nearby and someone hands you a 10, you could either pretend to open the register (if it's one that makes a sound when opened) or just pocket the cash silently. So by forcing you to give the customer change, you're less likely to be able to sneakily steal from your employer. And I think some registers made a note of every time they're opened. So if some money didn't match up with the products sold for the day, you can immediately go to the cashier with your suspicions if it's likely that they're stealing from you.
      The price seeming lower is also a part of it. But historically it's also just a lack of trust employers had with their employees and was meant to reduce the number of thefts.

    • @kyuubinaruto17
      @kyuubinaruto17 2 месяца назад +2

      @@JustAnotherPerson4U Was this before cash registers kept records or something? If the drawer starts out with $100 and the total purchases come out to $400 (so $500) but the final count comes out to $490 then it's obvious the cashier either stole or overpaid a customer.
      I don't get why having to give a customer change affects this in any way.

    • @JustAnotherPerson4U
      @JustAnotherPerson4U Месяц назад +2

      @@kyuubinaruto17 That's if you open the cash drawer. If someone hands you a straight tenner or some other rounded price, as a dodgy cashier you just wouldn't bother to record the sale. Having them be forced to open it to give one pence back makes sure the sale is recorded.
      Also, I imagine there are a lot of shops that use old style cash registers because it's cheaper for them.

    For many people, not including the prices on the menu actually has the opposite effect: people assume the price is ridiculously high, and will therefore be turned away by default. Furthermore, it creates a situation where a customer asking for the price will have no time to think over whether or not they really want it, increasing the chance that they’ll default to no.

    A few things I learned.
    1. Always round up everything to a 0 (eg- 19.99 = 20)
    2. Compare the smallest and largest size (middle one is a decoy)
    3. Tip 15% of your total bill (cuz the US can't afford to pay their own staff)
    4. Compare grocery prizes for different stores (saves more money than you think)
    5. Stick to the grocery list. If you see something you want then wait till you get all the items you require and check if that thing is still in your mind.
    6. If you want something expensive that's more of a luxury then multiply the prize by ten and see if you can still afford to live comfortably. If you can't then you don't need it.
    7. Obsessed over something online? Wait for a week before ordering it. If you still want it then go ahead.
    8. The more crafty you are the less money you'll spend.
    9. One dollar a day can get you 365 dollars at the end of the year. (Unless it's a leap year) so save as much as you can. Even if it's just one cent. It still counts!
    10. Read your documents, know the benefits you can get and don't be stingy in using them!
    11. Medical bills are expensive right? I know but did you know you can argue about it? Yeah a hospital shouldn't be charging you for skin to skin contact with your own baby!
    12. A good lawyer is always a life saver.
    13. You should know at least three medical professionals whom you can cross check with. (Just look who's a doctor in your extended famiy! Same goes for finance and IT! )
    14. Stop using ott cuz it's beyond saving and start visiting your local library. It'll save you more money. (Some have free wifi to use)
    15. Do a monthly check of all meds/makeup/packaged food/warranties/coupons/cables/taps/electronics etc. It'll save you from later hassel.
    16. If you aren't using an electronic then unplug it. (Unless it's the fridge) it'll save you electricity. Turn off the lights if it's daylight or you aren't in the room. Trust me it adds up!
    17. Keep all the possible entry points locked!
    18. You have the worst kind of locks.... Don't put too much trust in them
    19. Sleep with the door locked! It'll be s lifesaver in case of a fire.
    20. A chapstick can be applied over a burn in case water isn't available. Lowers the chance of blisters forming.
    21. Wet cloth over an oil fire stops the fire from spreading. Use sand in case of electric fire(Also works to block out pollution and smoke)
    22. Keep your important documents, proof of identification, some money, spare clothes, shoes and a pocket knife all in one suitcase. Keep that suitcase in a closet you can access easily. This will be of major help in case you need to evacuate immediately. (I don't want you to loose your identity in an accident!)
    Okay I'm done.... I'm not even American but I still somehow know about these tips so thought I'd share

    That last one is a double trick- You say they price things at 95 cents rather than 99 cents to make people think they're less expensive than it actually is, but... It being 99 cents in the first place already does that. After all, someone sees $14.99, and they might think it's 'about fourteen dollars', which they wouldn't think if it just said $15.00.
    But, the ninety-nine cents thing is just so normalized, that you didn't even mention, or possibly even really think about, it being a trick, just saying the occasion when it's actually priced at ninety-five cents is a trick.

    for those that do NOT know... casinos are very dirty as in both psychological and physical. most casinos to do -NOT have clocks, they do NOT have windows, they pump loud upbeat music, aromatic fragrences, and give free drinks because alcohol limits or lowers your inhibitions making you more likely to spend more and or spend more without realizing it... comps such as rooms make it to where you will spend more time there, free food is also there because if your full you dont need to worry about food, also many people AND BY MANY i will say almost 80% of all chairs have been either pissed, shitted or both pissed and shitted on..... also vomited, spit, sick people etc...

    Also grocery stores purposely put eggs, milk, and bread at the back to make you walk the entire store in hopes of things catching your eye.. things you didnt necessarily need.

    Actually, casinos do this because the machines can overheat. I work in the casino industry. And they can get hot as hell our sever rooms that I have been in are set at 34 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Trick for looking at prices of stuff always increases to the next full dollar.
    $9.55 = $10
    $3.25 = $4
    $8.99= $9
    It helps me to remember that the price put is trying to trick me.

  • @white_dragoon_x
    @white_dragoon_x 9 дней назад

    Other tricks grocery stores always put their deli area in the fron of the store next to the door so the smell of food makes you hungry and you will buy more food.
    Clothing departments are so crowded with items to force you to slow down and increase the chance of you buying something you didnt even come in for.
    Once every 6 months a company will move products around a little to make you have to search for your favorite item so you might try something else that has a better profit margin on it.

    Another trick for supermarkets:
    They put the essentials like bread,milk,eggs,TP,detergent etc etc at the back
    So by the time you actually get to them you pass through multiple isles with other products that you are sure to buy,even tho you don't really need them
    Once i went to the store with my mom for BREAD and we came back with the basket almost full

    The .99 or .95 didn't come from trying to make them appear cheaper, it was originally an anti--theft measure (it forced cashiers to give a penny change instead of pote tially not interacting with the till)

    Theres a 4th one that includes making pepole think that they outsmarted the system by making their small sized things cheap, and then making medium and large options Kind of expensive but making a small price gap between them so you think your scaming for the large not being so more expensive than medium and bait you into buying it

    There's a trick that they do (exemple:)
    1 ball ice cream: $ 5 00
    2 ball ice cream: $ 10 00
    3 ball ice cream: $ 13 00
    Did you see the trick? Didn't, let me show you
    They put a discount only in the most expensive one so you'll think that the best option is the most expensive one, right?
    No, because you only get the most expensive, and he/she'll only get the money

    .99 is too obvious nowadays since the trick was disclosed decades ago. But .97 and .95 are rumored to be final sales prices and therefore inherently cheap. I have a feeling that in 5-10 years, we’ll have .90 or .80 to try and outrun the logical thinkers
