- In labour, you will be offered vaginal exams. A vaginal examination is also known as a cervical check. It involves your doctor or midwife doing an internal examination of your cervix to see how dilated it is. I had a very uncomfortable vaginal exam in labour because there were things I didn't know which could have made the experience easier and more comfortable. In this video, I will be sharing my top tips for having a positive experience and how to stay calm during a vaginal exam. I will also be sharing what happens when you have a cervical check during labour and how to make an informed decision about how many vaginal exams are actually necessary for you to have.

In my IVF journey I had this awesome doctor who just told me what muscles to relax and so on. He was almost like a coach it works amazingly for me because I am naturally super clumsy and little bit dense when it comes to knowing how I should move my body.
Thank you for the tips! I had several painful cervical checks with my first and now I'm pregnant with my second.
Hope your second pregnancy is going well! 💗🌹
@@anastasiac.7095 skip those checks unless truly medically necessary honey
Or just decline them because they are pointless.
Came here to say this!!!
Yes you could also decline them! They can't force you to have one 💖
I was in preterm labor three weeks ago at 33 weeks. Had to endure a very aggressive and painful cervical check while in the hospital. Left me in tears. The doctor gave me absolutely no time to try to relax, she just jammed her fingers in there not properly lubed while I’m wincing and panic-grabbing my husband.
Not going to let that happen again. I wrote down exactly what I expect on my birth plan to avoid this happening again. (They were at least able to stop the preterm labor, I’m just a few days from full-term now)
I'm so sorry you had this experience with you first baby. I hope everything goes well with your second baby & I'm glad you're standing up for yourself and getting your birth preferences ready. Make sure everyone reads them that cares for you in labour 💗
I had one last week and forgot how painful they were. Told my doctor I won't be having another check until after the epidural. I understand it will help them know how dilated I am once contractions begin but I refuse to experience that level of trauma again. Plus I'm seeing a common statement where they don't work unless you're past your due date?
Hi! Thanks for your message. I'm so sorry that you had a painful cervical check last week. I hope you're ok. Are you talking about a membrane sweep not working unless you've gone passed your due date? Because this is different to a vaginal exam? X
For a mom how would she birth a baby
@@kylezimmerman685 what do you mean?
Deny those checks ladies.
