I think I’ve gotten to the bottom of the issues some people are having with error messages saying a supported game is required. Make sure you don’t have any 3D accelerated windows open in the background. So Chrome/Discord/etc. Minimising them seems to fix the issue. You don’t need to close them completely.
Hi Will, thanks for the video :-) Any idea if this work on rFactor 2? I'm trying to open the filter using the hotkeys (ALT+F3) but I get the message saying that a supported game is required. Many thanks!
UPDATE: Ok so it appears the latest Nvidia driver (472.96) breaks this for some people. I've now tested myself on another PC and also had a few friends test and it seems a clean install with DDU resolves any issues with the latest driver. Alternatively, previous drivers can be downloaded here - www.nvidia.com/download/find.aspx
It seems to only work when I use old website version of iracing. Using the new UI it doesn’t work. I get the nvidia pop up saying to use it but doesn’t load the filters.
That's awesome!! As a commercial photographer, and having an understanding of color and light, I've always hated the rendering in iRacing. One thing to keep in mind while making these adjustments... Dropping the highlight down is always a good idea for the reason you explained....blowing out all the bright areas. However, with the shadows, remember when you darken things that in the darkest areas, you should still have minor details like maybe dash texture or something like that. The only places I wouldn't expect any detail would be in the vents because obviously there's nothing there to give any texture. One other thing you may want to try is the HDR setting. Maybe turning this on before you make the adjustments might give even a bit more realism. All in all that was a great video and I appreciate the info!!
I will follow this advice, soon I will have my VR headsets coming so I will try turning on the HDR if it adds even more to realism :)... Have to build a rig soon and as soon as the CSL DD comes I will be able to thoroughly enjoy racing
I'm kinda getting old, and losing pace with technology. I don't even know exactly what HDR is. But people say it improves things. So I want to try it. I know my system should be very capable. But where is this setting? In the graphics card settings, or in iRacing?
@@sethrenigar6012 the setting for HDR that I was talking about is in iRacing/options/graphics, where you adjust your settings for the graphics like sky, grandstands, pit box, etc. It will be in the 3rd column. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. Basically what it does is it finds a way to compress everything into a range thy you can see instead of having highlights that are too bright to have detail at that same time as having blacks thy are too dark to have detail. It may have an adverse effect in morning and late afternoon or evening races when you get the Orange glare of the sunrise or sunset on the track in certain turns. Hopefully the other adjustments in the video card will curb thy issue.

Good evening all. I have been trying to figure this out for a few hours and here is what I came up with. Latest driver installed (497.09). I start a "Test Drive" session and it seems to work. From there any other session I join it still works, (AI, Test Drive, Etc.) As long as I do not close iRacing it seems to keep. Once I close iRacing and try to go into let's say an AI race "not supported". I go "Test Drive" works as well as other sessions. Don't know why, and what changed, but seems to work for me. Cheers, and good luck! BTW. Thanks Will for all of the great content over the years.
yesterday I tried to do this and all I could get was a side panel, but no options. It just had a box at the bottom saying 'Done'. Today however, I did a great (in my standard, getting round the track in one piece is great) lap, I saved it. When I went back to view, I did the ALT F3 and it worked I had the full menu. So it seems, just doing a test lap does not work, but viewing a saved replay will get the menu to be showed.
Hi Will. Nvidia game filters are incredibly hit and miss, so many games you try to use filters it just comes up with "this game is not supported" message. I'm actually surprised you have it working for iRacing as I've never once got it to work and just gave up and used reshade instead. How did you manage to get it working with iRacing? I can pull the overlay up but when I try and launch the filters, I get that same "this game is not supported" message. Also, going into geforce experience and scanning for iracing, it never finds it even when scanning the precise iRacing folder. After restarting the game I can alt+F3, but it's off by default and I have to hit the number I set up, then it's fine. Not sure why it doesn't just stay on.
I've always thought iRacing was a bit warm on the color side - this helps a ton! It does make the in-sim UI look a little odd but you'll never be looking at that for too long

@@boostedmedia def worth a try imo it’s not really subtle effect sorta annoying but fun but worth testing if possible with the light stuff it would be good me thinks really brings that sharp hot light look
the reason theres a "stark contrast" is because in the game there is a sun shining into the car... as to where in your room there isnt a sun shining. The 'Before' is more realistic than your after, but your after looks better.
For those trying this in 2023 using the UI, I’ve found a hack for anyone seeing only a non-adjustable “image sharpening” slider. If you first open an iRacing replay file, you can then open up the overlay filters and they will appear normally. You can then close the replay and so long as you don’t exit out of the iRacing UI, you can continue to use the filter/s in any practice or race mode. Kind of a long process, but worth it in my opinion.

Looked and felt much more natural. I run triple 160hz 27in curved UWQHD's utilizing a 3060 card and the immersive factor is now really nice compared to the default setting. Cheers
Thanks mate great work
ooooookay so. this works if i start iracing through the website, but not the UI.... SETTING DO NOT STAY. Also through the website, the game does not apply my screen settings i have set in the ini file, and only shows the game horizontally half way across the tirple screens.... this is fun lol...
Either way, thanks for all the awesome content
cheers
Wow you’ve found a reason to install GeForce
😂
For some reason this doesn't work the first time I launch iRacing for the day. I'll hit alt+F3 and it says there's an error and to restart the game. After restarting the game I can alt+F3, but it's off by default and I have to hit the number I set up, then it's fine. Not sure why it doesn't just stay on.
That's great, thanks - might also use this to take some of Ermin's favourite colour yellow out too :) NVIDIA Experience is going back in.
Done. First cut just about removed all of that yellow, and made colours look a lot more natural! Thanks again Will!
I've always thought iRacing was a bit warm on the color side - this helps a ton! It does make the in-sim UI look a little odd but you'll never be looking at that for too long
hi boosted, i was wondering if there was any tips or tutorial for AMD owners. i tried reshade, completely screwed my game up. Couldn't launch anymore. So unistalled it. Now i wish iracing would offer some ingame way to fix the yellowness.... Wasn't bothering me but now i played all summer ACC and F1 on console. This yellow filter is ruining my game experience.
I keep trying this but I just get a message saying a error occurred please restart your game to use this feature?
I have the same issue. When I searched google, it seemed to indicate some people have fixed the issue by ensuring they do not have other overlays running. I just disabled the windows game bar and double checked steam overlay is not running, but still get this issue. I have a 3080 and current drivers.. if i figure it out ill post and share the fix.
@@troyglossop1113 I wonder if Trading paints is affecting it
@@sausagedodgersracing I closed trading paints and it still had the same issue when trying to start Game filters in iracing. I just finished reinstalling the latest drivers and rebooting my pc and same problem persists. I am a bit stumped, I might try rolling back drivers later on tonight if I am keen enough
Hi buddy, thanks for the video. Looks great! I'm unable to find core.ini - is it in main installation folder?
All good, found it... turns out I have multiple My Documents folders, thanks to OneDrive!
I have a AMD GPU and got really good results with MSI Dragon Center. Maybe look in to that one as well? :)
does it work for VR, more specifically HP Reverb 2?
That is damn epic! I was just thinking about fudging around with LUT's and whatnot, but this is so much more simple.
what is your brightness and gamma in iRacing ?
also if there is a performance hit, why not do this stuff in the regular nVidia contrast settings ?
The brightness and contrast settings don't remove the yellow in iracing. These are filters to make games look better
@@TheBallisticSerb Hue does that, underneath Digital Vibrance - or you can adjust the brightness/contrast/gamma for R G B channels separately
Does adjusting the filters alter the load on the cpu/gpu?
Can you do this and still use overlay apps?
Worked great for me and now racing with a much better presentation and not a single hit in fps. Now just gotta get good and out of Rookie leagues for Oval and Road. :P
When I do this it’s saying the game isn’t Supported?? Any ideas?
been using these filters for months now told poeple it would help..
Have you tried getting HDR working somehow you really do notice it when it’s running not just brightness range super obvious on off not sure if iracing supports it but some reshade sorta thing might?
I haven’t experimented with it yet TBH.
@@boostedmedia def worth a try imo it’s not really subtle effect sorta annoying but fun but worth testing if possible with the light stuff it would be good me thinks really brings that sharp hot light look
I found HDR on certain capable monitors also really helps the immersion.
That is awesome mate, many thanks
Awesome mate! thanks
Will this work on Oculus headsets?
Any tips for a night, sun- rise/set setup?
I love your content so much
What are your monitor settings
the reason theres a "stark contrast" is because in the game there is a sun shining into the car... as to where in your room there isnt a sun shining. The 'Before' is more realistic than your after, but your after looks better.
Mine keeps saying an error has occurred please restart app. Can’t get it to work.
What's the purpose of changing the core setting?
If you don't change it, you'll get a 10057: Error detected on network device
For those trying this in 2023 using the UI, I’ve found a hack for anyone seeing only a non-adjustable “image sharpening” slider. If you first open an iRacing replay file, you can then open up the overlay filters and they will appear normally. You can then close the replay and so long as you don’t exit out of the iRacing UI, you can continue to use the filter/s in any practice or race mode. Kind of a long process, but worth it in my opinion.
I got so excited when i saw this comment, as I am having this exact issue. Sadly this work around hasn't worked for me :(
I would really like this to work in VR.. possible or not?? Running WMR HP Reverb.
Does this work in vr too?
I had tried using it but have been unable to get the check box to remain checked for the game filter overlay. I'll try some of the comments people
have made here and see how i go
Do you use the SC2 PRO base?
When pressing alt+f3, it gives an "An error occurred. Restart your game to use this filter" even after restarting pc
Same here. Will would love an update on this video if you can help.
There’s loads of people with exactly this issue.
Thanks for tips !
