I love iRacing, but yes it's expensive compared to the rest. Since you are still in rookies, try out all the rookie content in oval, dirt oval and dirt road. I got it for road but have been having a blast in the other genres. I'm actually surprised how much I like Rallycross

4:07 Every Season is just a new set of tracks per series. If your above 3.0 SR you get automatically upgraded to the next class at the end of the current season, no matter when you started during that season aslong as your above 3.0 SR. Also you can fasttrack it by getting above 4.0 SR and you can get up to the next class mid Season. I started Oval Racing in April and went from Rookies to A class in under 2 weeks
fast track the sr until you get in a tussle with some goon at texas and he doors you and body slams your truck ... then at the end of the race you get -1.5 sr ..... you're just like = O
OC, great video!! I did everything possible and tried out every sim I could to not do iRacing. I wasn’t ready to commit the money but being picky and choosy on what races I run based on if I like the track or car, I’m managed to keep it doable. Ultimately, I found the quality of content and structure was unmatched in sim racing and I got fully on board. Will always watch your content, you’re one of my favorite creators but excited to see how you progress
I am glad you posted this! I just upgraded from my 14 year old logitech to a Fanatec CSL Elite with a load cell pedal and the HF8 haptic butt vibrators and that feeling in Iracing when you spin out or mess up and you know its allllll gone already!!! i kept racing last night on Skip Barber and GOT MY FIRST PODIUM!!! I fought for that podium the last 5 laps too it felt amazing!!! Nothing like it!!!
Great video. I-racing is tempting but oh boy the cost. I keep telling myself that I don't race that much so spending 10 Euro every month is not worth it (and I'm not even talking about cars/tracks)... but it is like looking at a candystore knowing the candy is bad for the teeth. And who cares about teeth when the candy is calling :-).
You could race any of those rookie series. The red download icon just means you need to update the game with the content (click the series and click update). Only those showing a yellow shopping cart icon require purchases.
I tried iracing free 3 months, after realizing I would also have to pay for tracks, cars and there's a bunch of them while paying the subscription I stopped and continued on ACC. I didn't find iracing to be that "epic" to be worth all the extra extra extra money I would have to spend
The best thing you can do, is focus strictly on your irating. You'll end up getting in cleaner and cleaner splits the higher up you get your irating. The safety rating will follow you to get you up to the next license
While I will agree that iRacing is expensive but that is due to a few factors. The main thing for me that I figured out early on was that I don’t need to purchase every single car and track. (Especially tracks since they change each season). But I know I may not race every single week in a season due to being busy or wanting to take a break. There’s some cars that I bought which I regret purchasing. But there’s others that I love driving. As for tracks I purchased those that I enjoyed driving in different racing games and/or real life. And some others that were frequently raced on (there’s a website/guide that you can find on the iRacing subreddit). I’d say after you get a good feeling of how the Mazdas drive and feel (and get out of rookies so you can move to different series) I’d suggest going to the GT3s and I’d recommend getting the Ferrari GT3 as it’s the best “overall” car and has its own series. After that if you want to move on to the higher class GT3 series you can still use that same Ferrari and save the money on buying a new car. Those are just my thoughts on the game as a whole. I really do enjoy it overall and the competitive/seriousness of it. Though the safety rating system makes me want to rip my wheel off my desk. Most people in the subreddit are nice and would be happy to help in addition to all the posts they’ve gotten over the years which should most of your questions.
Nice vid. I do have one advice though, during the race, it's best to have the "black box" in bottom right corner show "Relative" page, that way you have best understanding of where you are on track in relation to faster/slower cars. Especially if you decide to go Oval, which you should do, it's great fun.
this was actually one of you best! ;) recent iRacer here (3 months) after trying to avoid it for 3 years.. I have to say, it´s all I care about now! :P currently doing the formula iR04 (one of the best for begginers), hope to see you on track soon!
4:50 what? all of those series you see there are free and require no separate content, except for dallara dash and carburetor cup (which don't count towards your license) all of the rookie-level content is free.
Definitely going to be watching this series iracing is something I've thought about but haven't pulled the trigger due to the costs associated and have stuck to acc and LFM
one night drinking and clubbing will set you back more than your yearly subscription and a couple of tracks/cars... one night at the brothel per year will set you back more than Iracing per year... I was in the same boat , not pulling the trigger and hesitant .. yet when i thought about it. I usually buy one or two games every few months - either on steam or ps store- the price of that game will cover my yearly subcription... the price of another game will cover a few tracks and the price of a 3rd game (in one year ) will cover my cars... its a no brainer for 24/7 racing lobbies, with proper rules and 'mostly' proper racers.
You came up into my recommended as I am simracer too. This video was hella entertaining!! And you are not the only one struggeling with iRacing in the beginning :D I went back to ACC as I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for playing a game.. :D
When I first started iRacing I also learned about the tip of just increasing your safety rating and I would just start from the pits. I usually got top 3 even doing that. I quit racing on iRacing for months and when I came back, I had a similar thing with needing to start my car. Except for some reason the button wasn't mapped anymore so I was struggling hard that race.
I was so excited for iRacing when I finally finished building my sim rig. Then I was incredibly disappointed that not only it is subscription based, but you have to pay more for every single thing in the game! I never opened it again and let my membership lapse. Then I tried AC and found that it was half the price for a ton of content, better graphics, and a better physics engine. iRacing is basically the Apple of the sim racing world - sure it's nice looking content, but prepare to be nickel and dimed over everything.
Everything about this video is absolutely on point, great work mate! Particularly the purchase anxiety 😅 I related that so much. Was in the same position a couple of years ago but decided to invest and I can safely say that I _still_ don't know whether it was a good idea or not. I've had some amazing iRacing experiences including an epic comeback drive at the Bathurst 12HR last year and some super competitive league racing too...but on the other hand I've also been on the receiving end of some absolutely idiotic driving and abuse on comms. Wherever your iRacing takes you, don't let the idiots dampen your experience and don't take the occasional hostility to heart 👍but if your driving style is anything like your video editing style then I think you'll be absolutely fine 😉 looking forward to seeing more of your videos on my feed now that I'm subbed!
Looking forward to more iracing content! MX5 is great because it's a great rookie car, but is also used in higher level series for some super fun racing.
If you guys think iRacing is expensive try a real life hobby, like golf, bowling, gambling, any sport, actually owning or racing a car, restaurants, theaters. If you can’t or won’t pay about 60$ / year for a subscription for the best racing game, find a different hobby. I want to see anyone load up their chosen game at a random time of day and find a multiplayer race with multiple splits. I can turn on any of the others Acc, ams2, rf2, raceroom, and may find one lobby that has more than 10 people. I own and like them all, but if I want to race people at my convenience and not be handcuffed to some league schedule iRacing is the only one. Oh and their AI and customizable race seasons is better than any of the others. If sim racing isn’t valuable enough for you to pay move on, we don’t want ya.
All the rookie series can be raced with the base content. You are getting the red Download icon because you don´t have the content INSTALLED, but you OWN it

Hey OC, I'm all here for your Iracing content. Loved that you studied the cinematics instead of that track because we wouldn't have that beautiful shot of your car just staying still at the start line. XDDD
as a person who has been on the iracing service for more than 1 year now, it may look confusing at first (including the content pricing) but its worth it imo. every car and track are scanned so your racing a more accurate car model than any other sim, some bugs and glitches are fixed quickly(like brake dragging and grass dipping) and some are not. Its a very fun sim and i hope ya enjoy your iracing adventure!
it costs them around $150,000 to build a 1 mile oval track and around $80,000-100,000 to create a car. then it is the most realistic racing simulator available to the public in the world. we pay $60-90 for forza horizion which is an arcade racing game we pay $60 for a new madden or fifa or nba game every year. $66 a year for the best of the best plus a misely $12 for a car or track. i mean its not that bad. and its ours forever its not like forza or other games where you lose everything all your dlc with the next game its always there. the price we pay is for the best racing service available. In comparison Iracing in the long run is probably cheaper than most games. there will probably never be an iracing 2 so its an investment worth having.
Love your videos. With the summer sale iRacing is holding, I thought it was the cheapest it was going to get. So I clicked on your referral link and joined the cult of iRacing. Thanks for the fun videos.
3:05 you don't have to download it all at once, because you only download the stuff you plan to drive. if you don't drive it, no need to download it. so whilst you can download all cars and tracks off the bat, you don't have to.
RUclips sure knows its audience, good video and editing. Hope to see more now that I subbed and hit that bell. Good luck on track, most of all have fun.
Quick Tip, all ROOKIE Sessions are included in the Monthly Price, they all drive on "free" tracks with Cars you have, at the higher classes, there are some Series with the Mazda you can do (with open tuning) that may require some tracks but also have free ones in. Also there are some Cars in higher class you have like Kia Optima, Pontiac Solstice. I like racing the Formula Vee, Formula Renault and Mazda a lot :D
Good luck in your iracing career, great rig im still rocking the g920 at the moment hoping to upgrade to moza r9 in the near future(cash flow depending) I’m looking forward to race 2! Quick tip for you next race turn the car on 😂
I’m glad to say that there are tons of very affordable and equally as good games. Assetto corsa Dirt rally 2 Project cars 2 Assetto corsa Competizione Just to name a very few. Definitely shouldn’t let iRacing kill your excitement
@@OCRacing I purchased AMS2 RFactor Iracing as my first Sims. I play AMS2 95% of time. I will go on Iracing. But I have refused to pursue more Tracks or Cars because I've Learned that Leagues and Series are Purposely changed in car and Track requirements in order to force you to buy MORE tracks and Cars. AMS2 with all the updates Looks Better , Has a awesome Handling model with a DD wheel and offers Way More Content. Only thing missing is the online Racing User Pool which I can imagine Iracing has because it's been out for 10+ yrs
Increasing your iRating will get you out of carnage faster than increasing your safety rating. SR is easy to farm. As you may know already, if more cars sign up for a single race than the track can hold (which is always the case in Rookie Mazda), they will be split by iRating. High splits (high iRating) of low-class series (potentially, though not necessarily, low SR) typically offer safer racing than low splits of high-class series. If you like racing the MX-5, once you are out of Rookies you may try class-D Production Car Challenge (multiclass including the MX-5, and open setups; rookie Mazda is fixed-setup) or then class-C Advanced Mazda (longer races, open setup, no fast repair). Happy racing!
the nice part about iracing is that as your irating and safety rating increase you can still run the rookie mx5 class and you will have much better driver
Based on the music in the background, you don't happen to be a Audioslave / Soundgarden fan as well? Idk the music reminded me again and again of Audioslaves debut record. Great vid!

as a person who has been on the iracing service for more than 1 year now, it may look confusing at first (including the content pricing) but its worth it imo. every car and track are scanned so your racing a more accurate car model than any other sim, some bugs and glitches are fixed quickly(like brake dragging and grass dipping) and some are not. Its a very fun sim and i hope ya enjoy your iracing adventure!
and tip: dont buy everything yet but only buy the content you are gonna race(cars, tracks)
@@WhoisSkid appreciate the advice. Thanks!
No one tells you anything. If I had anyone to take to a restaurant, I am going to dinner at the restaurant. The game will still be there.
welcome to iracing, may u enjoy everything it has to offer!
I've never touched iRacing but I watch Dave all the time
i have never heard of your channel before and i wasnt into sim racing but now i want to see more!
it costs them around $150,000 to build a 1 mile oval track and around $80,000-100,000 to create a car. then it is the most realistic racing simulator available to the public in the world. we pay $60-90 for forza horizion which is an arcade racing game we pay $60 for a new madden or fifa or nba game every year.
I'm actually really excited for watching you go through this
Excited or nervous? 😂
@@OCRacing let's just say..... Both 😈
Love your videos. With the summer sale iRacing is holding, I thought it was the cheapest it was going to get. So I clicked on your referral link and joined the cult of iRacing. Thanks for the fun videos.
Great video! Excellent narration and editing! Subscribed!
3:05 you don't have to download it all at once, because you only download the stuff you plan to drive. if you don't drive it, no need to download it. so whilst you can download all cars and tracks off the bat, you don't have to.
Cool video! I’m excited to follow your progress
I love this kind of random content
Never seen your channel before, but this was quite entertaining lol
Good luck in your iracing career, great rig im still rocking the g920 at the moment hoping to upgrade to moza r9 in the near future(cash flow depending) I’m looking forward to race 2! Quick tip for you next race turn the car on 😂
Thanks for the tip, Chris…….. 😂
The amount of times I forgot to turn on the engine is crazy
LOVED this vid, especially the intro/start
I purchased IRacing as a New Sim Racer and was Humbled by the Cost . Killed my excitement!!
I’m glad to say that there are tons of very affordable and equally as good games.
Assetto corsa
Dirt rally 2
Project cars 2
Assetto corsa Competizione
Just to name a very few.
Cameron Frye🤓, cool rig dude!
Around 6:50 was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in a sim racing video
This is brilliant content, love the start button drama!
Really enjoyed this video! had me in stitches!!! Godspeed
Thanks!
what a Start Lol good luck with IRacing mate!
Thank you! I'll be practicing 🤣
Great video. I'm just starting a very similar journey and making a tons of mistakes along the way. It's frustrating but fun..
Thanks for sharing..
you really encapsulated my online shopping experiences
I’m going to become the new dave cam just made me chuckle haha no one can replace dave lol
Challenge accepted 🤝
been following for a while and its great to see how much progress you've made. keep up the good work!
Great vid! As an iracing addict I would recommend Trading paints to get car liveries and Racelabs for various overlays. Hope to see you on track soon.
Thinking of taking the leap and getting iRacing. Used to race a long time ago.
the nice part about iracing is that as your irating and safety rating increase you can still run the rookie mx5 class and you will have much better driver
Based on the music in the background, you don't happen to be a Audioslave / Soundgarden fan as well?
Idk the music reminded me again and again of Audioslaves debut record. Great vid!
amazing video. I've been thinking about getting iracing myself so this video really helped!
Glad to hear. Cheers :)
