      To Smitty 999: The concepts are simple -- even sexy (doable) in solving salient situations. But have a mental image of the whole project; for, contractors make bundles of bread by working on the fly: "We may as well do this, that, and the other" -- running other pipes and channels into the drain system, adding costs, giving a phony "package."

    In Australia most down pipes are always connected to the stormwater system or runs into a charged rainwater tank system

    Mine happens to be right by our front door walkway that has cement. So we have to jump over it. It so annoying, we trip over it bringing in groceries and the kids always trip when playing and it not elderly friendly. I hate it. I don’t know what else to do. I would have to dig up the cement path to get it under ground. But I’m just a renter so I can’t. One day they will invent something so we can walk on our cement path freely. Thank you for your video.

    My downspots seem to go into a clay drain tile total of 4 around the foundation. Not sure how deep the drain tile is but soon as there is a good rain my basement foundation leaks towards bottom of foundation wall about 5 ft down from exterior yard. I am thinking of installing the pvc method to get the water away from foundation. Home is 100 years old and didnt want to completedly seal up the clay drain tile as it could serve for other drainage styems in the whole house.

    Hi there, I'm just wondering with the last option, would it be better to have the inspection port vented? Or let's say that down pipe was at the start of a series of downpipes before the discharge point, would it be necessary to add a vent in at the start or at the end?

    We had some crawlspace work down before we moved in and they put eight-foot corrugated pipes at the end of our downspouts. Didn't bury them or anything. They're so ugly!

  • @justauser

    You forgot about simply using downspout pipe as an extension. They can quickly flip up and down when cutting the grass and look much better

I currently have water in my crawlspace and was planning on installing a french drain with my sump pump i already have installed thanks to you! My question is my crawlspace is split into three sections do i just need to go around the perimeter or do i go around each section?

      To Taylor: Check where the water is coming from -- and accommodate the area.

    • @stepside2839
      @stepside2839 6 месяцев назад

      If the water in the crawl space is coming from a high water table, then you will need excavation.

    but do you need a drain basin? If you just run the pipe under ground and bury is there a chance dirt can clog the end of it?

    I appreciate the information. Didn't know the concrete under spout would let water flow back like that. Does the PVC have holes maybe several feet out from house?

    • @appledrains
      @appledrains  Год назад +2

      Hi Connie! No the PVC is solid pipe all the way out to the front. Once we’ve collected the water, that comes from the roof, we want to keep it and discharge it out at the street.
      Great question and thanks for your comment!

    So what's the ideal solution if you have slab or post footing under the downpipe? I have this situation on my front corner verandah downpipe, just debating how to make it look the least ugly. Leaning towards catch basin, with a downpipe elbow, but I can already foresee kids tripping over it.

    What if it’s on side of house ? With just 5-10 feet between 2 houses? Which downspouts better?

  • @davidletz9123
    @davidletz9123 Месяц назад

    My downspout drain is where 2 roof eaves meet, and the amount of water coming down during a heavy rain is incredible. My drain is similar to your "better" configuration, but the water is coming down so quickly, with so much volume, it backflows and spills over where the metal downpipe meets the plastic extension. It seems to me the 90-degree angle of the drain is the problem. Would you agree?

  • @bpgomez1

    Hi there, like your video. One question, If I use pvc or corrugated pipe, what do I do at the end of it? Do just leave the open end there underground by itself or do I have to dig out the ground in front of the end opening for the water to go out?

    • @kungfoochicken08
      @kungfoochicken08 2 месяца назад

      You need to terminate at a pop up emitter or a grate. You need to be mindful to keep a consistent slope on the pipe so you don’t have stagnant water in your line. He has some great videos on how to do a pop up emitter that doesn’t hold water

    I really wish you home maintenance or improvement YTers would share your location or USDA Hardiness zone in all your videos to help your viewers with context. I was with you and following along until you mention burying PVC - which I've read will freeze and crack in cold areas and may be a poor solution for those viewers. I need to be able to interpret these tips appropriately for my area/situation.
    Thanks for the video.

    You forgot the best option, but I forgive you. White, plastic pipe sticking out of the ground on the front of an expensive house looks like cheap garbage. Quite a few companies make steel/ cast iron “ downspout boots” that can be powder coated and eliminate the “ cheap plastic” look of pvc toilet pipe on the front of a house. Check them out I think you will agree with me.
