Hard to imagine this is 10 years old at this point... Its such an incredible arrangement. I always come back to this as one of my favorite solos of all time.
I always imagined that the intro was the car ride to the ocean, the lead up to the solo was driving alongside the ocean (on PCH here in CA), the first solo made me imagine sailing on choppy waters, Chris' solo meant diving into the water and the harmonics part made me picture myself underwater, stumbling across a family of whales slowly swimming by.
It's not even easy to play such clean, precise, strong melody, even at a slow tempo. Bends gotta be right and accurate, and that's something to work out.
@zeugirdorsocram thanks a lot dude, appreciate that! we're excited about all of the touring, its many years of hard work to finally really get things going! -chris
You guys are the reason I picked the guitar back up after I got stuck in a rut for 5 months. Your intense two handed yet melodic approach really opened my eyes to what music should sound like. I owe you guys my musical life!!! Thank you!
hopefully someday. i tried to get him to write an entire song for the new album, but I finished the album so fast he dedicated all his practice time to learning the material. our newest album is our most challenging to date, its pretty nuts! so we're both practicing our butts off! we enter the studio Jan 2! -chris
@martay89 Thanks a lot dude! We'll be back in San Antonio on tour with Protest The Hero on Dec 12th at the White Rabbit again, hope to see you there! -Chris
The way the guitar mimics the sound of whale calls at the end of the song practically brings tears to my fucking eyes. Beautiful song, completely and totally.
these guys and the band "animals as leaders" are awesome! you can tell scale the summit definitely has influence from animals as leaders. and for those of you who like this band and havent heard of the band "animals as leaders" i definitely suggest checkin them out! they are amazing!!!!!!!
@livideye hey buddy, thanks a lot! i saw the order. you got lucky, we were actually completely sold out of both our newest albums and when cleaning my office I found the 2 in a pile of mail so I posted them online... we wont have either newest albums stocked for months to come! thanks for all the support, hope we can make it over there some day! -chris
@cloud041089 we playing along to the album, it has the live guitar tracks mixed in. you can hear the pick attacks and what not, especially on the clean sections. and then the distortion parts all sound quad tracked, haha.
Your solo section is unreal chris, honestly. Your best work. What are you even doing in that arpeggio section thats like the one part of the song i couldnt learn
@alsklaftsk123 Hey thanks a lot dude, appreciate that! As for books, since I write all the music for the band, its hard to find the time to work on a new book... but I definitely plan on releasing a second technique book as well as a 7 string instructional. So keep an eye out on that! -Chris
yooo i met these guys at the white rabbit in san antonio and got em to sign my shirt lol. real humble n the best performance there! i bought all their albums instead of illegally downloading em like everyone else! ya ll have a fan for life!!! just wish i was around for monument's tour, but this shit just gets better n better. love the new album guys
Travis did a lesson on Guitar Messengers youtube channel for that part. Search his name with Guitar Messenger, should be the first one that pops up. -Chris
@aaronthesledge they are plucked harmonic's, outlining the chord 12 frets up. he just did a lesson for Guitar Messenger on the technique. Should be out in a couple weeks. They have a youtube channel and website, subscribe to their channel and be on the lookout for that. -Chris
I think this is still my favorite Scale the Summit song. Pumped to see these guys in Vancouver with Tesseract! two bands on the top of my "to see perform" list
For me...this is the epitome of musical genius! I saw you guys open for DT in Vegas...i love what you do, but every time I hear something new...I am blown away all over again. Please keep it up! Thank you for the magic you share with us mortals...
i saw you guys on the 19th in san antonio! travis gave me his pick when they were done! bought me a penguins in flight shirt. and it was such a long set it was awesome. I am still amazed at how smoth you guys play. When I seen sts in little rock, first time ever hearing there Music I was just, speechless. It inspired me to try new things on the side of music
its a patch on my Fractal, which has auto swell and then reverb, chorus and mult-tap delay. have fun trying to create that without having a fractal! I imagine it would be tough! -chris
this was when we had Ultra's, we have II's now which with the new update they dont even have the amp we use to use but if you are on a Ultra, we started with the "Recto Orange" amp. -chris
1- I love you guys 2- I actually really want that 8 string 3- You guys should be bigger than you are, there's so much talent in this and it's so musical. I love the music you guys create. This is one of my favorite songs
This is just fantastic. And it couldn't have come at a better time, I just got a 7 string and have been looking for some 7 string bands. I will be picking up the book for this album and it's just going to be y'all, born of osiris, and after the burial all day long
Hard to imagine this is 10 years old at this point... Its such an incredible arrangement. I always come back to this as one of my favorite solos of all time.
I know. One of the best guitar instrumentals ever written. Drum and bass is good too ;)
Whole album is fucking amazing and underrated at large.
Checking in in 2024. This album was so amazing!
Underrated. That solo is so nifty.
This song still gives me goosebumps after all these years!
When both guitar players are lead guitarists, the possibilities are amazing!
I know this one is titled Whales but every Scale The Summit song reminds me of the ocean.
streamofkuntishness And what is in the ocean? Whales! :)
Most STS songs remind me anything that nature. Ocean, woods, hills, even cosmic events.
The transition into the solo is out of this world.
Haven’t listened/watched this in years! Still slays
This is the one of the greatest jams ever.
You know if discovery channel had your guys music, I would watch it everyday.
I always picture scaling a mountain summit for some reason
Just saw these guys in Atlanta, and they kill it live.
Between the 3 albums, I have logged in over 700 miles running. Best music to throw in your ipod and trek the world.
One of my favorite Songs....ever !!! Born 1964...Love Heiko
It's not even easy to play such clean, precise, strong melody, even at a slow tempo. Bends gotta be right and accurate, and that's something to work out.
hey thanks a lot man, appreciate the support! -Chris
Always had this fantasy of being a ufc fighter with this song as my entrance music. Especially when 2:07 comes up 🔥🔥🔥
This music just flows so well.
Without a doubt one of the best instrumentals of all-time
the solos were just beyond amazing
travis solo is so amazing
3:16-3:20 may be the most beautiful few seconds of rhythmic and melodic cooperation I've ever heard.
Man everything about this band is absolutely perfect
the jam that starts at 2:06 is brutal.
Can't get over that part eh its gorgeous
What even are those chords?!?
@zeugirdorsocram thanks a lot dude, appreciate that! we're excited about all of the touring, its many years of hard work to finally really get things going! -chris

You guys are the reason I picked the guitar back up after I got stuck in a rut for 5 months. Your intense two handed yet melodic approach really opened my eyes to what music should sound like. I owe you guys my musical life!!! Thank you!

The tunes composition is just incredible front to back aside from the technical aspect of its execution. Always a fan.
2015 and still listening to this masterpiece.
+RyanEnvy 2016 and I am listening
2020 here. It's starting to show it's age.
No doubt by that time Tosin Abasi has 2 extra robotic arms, so he can play 2 12 string guitars at the same time.
Kind of like Felix Martin will be doing by the end of 2017??
RyanEnvy 2018 and first time experiencing this super awesome guitarwork
@livideye hey buddy, thanks a lot! i saw the order. you got lucky, we were actually completely sold out of both our newest albums and when cleaning my office I found the 2 in a pile of mail so I posted them online... we wont have either newest albums stocked for months to come! thanks for all the support, hope we can make it over there some day! -chris

This band is the greatest thing to happen to music. The solo makes my soul dance!
@rawNASkills We improv solos at the end of Origin Of Species live, but Whales is 100% written out.
