Hi Rayne, thank you for the video ! I was wondering, how would you do to integrate a monitor controller in a digital monitoring setting ? I can't seem to find any controller with an AES output, even the top tier brand ! I'm thinking of getting PMC 6 but I also have a pair of genelec i would like to A/B with, so I think i would need a monitor controller
0:50 You're right, AES3 does require specific cables, particularly when transmitting signals over long distances. To ensure optimal performance, it’s preferred to use cables that meet the 110-ohm AES3 standard.
Just got the 6-2! Going to try the aes cable. Does it matter to use the same length cable for both interface to speaker and the daisy chain’s cable? Which model of mogami do you recommend? W3173? Thanks for your tips😉
@@whitherance congratulations on the new monitors and welcome to the unofficial PMC club! 😁 when it come to length, I would opt for two of the same length cables and as long as you keep the cables shorter than 20 feet, you’ll be good to go for certain! Thank you for your video. At the momment I am testing PMC 6-2 with Rme UFX+ and Trinnov Nova. How do you reccomend to connect the setup? RME>-Spdif>Trinnov>AES>PMC6 2L->PMC 6-2R or else? What sample rate should I feed them from Trinnov to PMC - Native 44.1/48 or higher? Thank you in advanced!
@@nikolatomov_music I would recommend going with 96K sample rate or a minimum 48k sample rate across both devices. Otherwise, you got it exactly right!
Was wondering how’d that work with just 1 output lol the good ol daisy chain. Im the same way about cables myself... can’t have any weakness in your chain and majority ppl have weak cables. I use to use Mogami until I came across castline cables. Check them out.
@@ernieg you’re speakers have to have aes-3 inputs, they would say “aes in” or “digital in” on the back and would have a “digital out” option as well. Most speakers are just analog input. That said, you can still use AES cables to connect analog speakers instead of XLR cables! Just a more expensive setup but still a good one. Hope this helps 🙏
@@EclipseSound yes I do, but technically under 20 feet it would be a negligible difference. I haven’t tested this myself and so I just went with two 10 foot cables
Can you make a tutorial for the setup on your RME UFX AND Adi-2. I have the same setup using my Adi-2 pro Fs r for ad/da and ufx 3 as my main interface and couldn’t get the digital connection working properly. I have a pair of Genelec 8341a with the SAM room corrections. Thanks for sharing and much success.
@@S7V7N_SEAS in this case, you should connect ADAT out on your RME UFX to the ADAT in on your RME ADI. In your RME Total Mix, at the bottom you need to select the ADAT option and make sure that output 1/2 (if this is your DAW output on the UFX) fader volume is set to unity gain so that it is being routed through ADAT out. Then, your want to use the AES breakout cable connection to connect your RME ADI 2 to your monitors via AES-3 cable. There’s a couple settings that will work to pass through the ADAT input to the AES out on the ADI. Call RME USA support for more info, they have technical support 10AM to 6PM everyday. I personally have the RME ADI 2/4 which has some different setting involved. Lastly you’ll want to control the volume of the AES using your UFX Total mix, NOT your ADI. Hopefully this helps! @@RainAstonIV I already saw an ADAT section on my total mic window so I didn’t have to do that personally, but if you don’t see it up there I would give that a shot!

@@ifelovemusic they all will have AES if they are matching subs from the same company. @@RAYNETHESAVIOUR I run two Adam sub 10s with the Pmc 6s. They sound great together which I know is weird. I got rid of s3hs which sounded horrible to me even with the same two subs. I’m not using AES cuz of the subs I have. Can’t afford those Pmc subs. I might have to just sell the subs and work with the 6-2a alone. I dunno.
@@ifelovemusic In this case, I wouldn’t overthink it! As long as you’re happy with your monitoring setup, you don’t have to change a thing! The Adam subs are great! That said, I still want a little more sub sometimes when I mix on the 6-2s but I definitely don’t need it! I just know I could have an ever finer magnifying glass in the sub area but I’m being greedy at this point. Gotta go out and get a lot more work to make up for grabbing the 6-2s when I did but I hope this helps! 🙏
In this case I will definitely skip Mogami brand, (save hundreds of dollars) and go for any AES cable with a good quality plugs; the audio quality will be exactly the same; like 100% to 100% same. :)
Whether quality should be the same or not, reliability is also a consideration! Will the cables last the test of time or break easily! Will they be immune to RF and other interference? Thats why I always go with the good stuff when can but anything works to start! 🙏
