Great video! I was trying to troubleshoot an audio issue after updating my rig, and this video helped me to find the issue quickly. Thanks for the simple and detailed explanation.
Hi thanks for the video I have a issue, I purchased a focusrite Saffire MKII Octopre which only has two outs and no ins. I’ve been trying to connected it to my focusrite clarett 8pre to connect the rest of my hardware Eq’s and Comps for days and I can’t seem to get a signal at all. I’ve tried everything so far. From my understanding by watching your video it’s not possible because the Octopre doesn’t have any ins correct? I lost 🤔 Help if you can please and thank you..
without both in and out you cant make a complete loop. That MKII can only output more signals. Not take in more inputs. So you could use it to send a whole stack of extra outs and route the manually back into the Clarett but thats uses up your inputs. A workaround if you are on Mac is to make an Aggregate device in settings. And use both units in sync like that. Alternatively something like the Behringer here - www.thomann.de/gb/thlpg_lv3lsv64u3.html into the carett would give it 8 more in and outs up to 48khz, I think i said in the video there's very few dedicated ADAT units out there, But thats a comparable price example to that MKII and what i picked up an have in the video.
@@Unders Thank you so much for your reply. Hopefully I can get my refund for this. I do not want to go through all of the extra routing just to make this work.
Thanks for the video! Does this setup affect the audio qualitatiy whatsoever? Lets say you compare your setup with an Apollo 8...will there be an difference in qualitaty?
Mic preamp wise. yes. The behringer is good enough, but not the best (its cheap as hell) but line in wise seems flawless. Bare in mind getting an Apollo 8 is about 6X the cost.
Thanks for this! I know some older/cheaper interfaces have issues with compatibility with the latest Apple Mac software. I’ve got an Apollo Twin X which works perfectly in terms of compatibility, but if I linked up say a Behringer interface like this, do I have to investigate compatibility issues in advance or, because it’s essentially a slave to the Apollo, would it not matter?
So if I ran this exact setup, I could use all 8 adat channels individually along with the other two analog? Adat 1, adat 2, adat 3, etc all seperate mono? I noticed at 4:55, some of the channels turned into "analog 1/2" "adat 7/8"
I’m super surprised no one has asked this, but let’s say the superior divide isn’t the Apollo, but another interface with better conversion and clocking. Let’s say the Babyface pro and an x8 Apollo. If I want to use the baby face as mic pre and speaker out can you still use unison plug-ins from the Apollo when recording?
On Mac you totally can make aggregate device an run them in tandem. But both need to be directly connected to the mac. Im unsure about windows these days.
Awesome video! Thanks for the clear explanation and for taking time to answer all the questions in the comments. I have an Apollo quad silver and a twin x and they both have ADAT input. Could I use 2 Behringer ADA8200 to get 16channel inputs connecting to the silver and the twin x?
I don’t think you can link the quad a twin x together? If you can. Yes 100% but AFAIK you need the X6 or larger rack mounts to extended the UA system. You can run them as an aggregate device. But you will likely get issues at times with clocking and ADAT in certain DAW and situations.
ADAT doesn't allow you to output on the Apollo twin as it only has an IN ADAT. You can however use the alt out's as extra I/O - help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002813886-How-Do-I-Send-Signal-from-My-DAW-to-the-Line-3-4-Outputs-on-My-Apollo-Thunderbolt-Desktop-
Aside from the bit rate limitations already discussed in this video, would the fidelity in your example be limited to the behringers capabilities or up to the apollos?
If we’re talking Mic Preamps 100% the flavour of the ADAT unit. In my set up I’m using the line in, of which you can’t really go wrong. If you’re going ADAT to add 8 new mic inputs. Maybe splash extra on say a Focusrite claret. The Behringer Midas mic pres however are completely serviceable extra options.
In this scenario yeah the UAD is what determines latency. Despite the clock being from the ADAT. That’s just the nature of how ADAT has to be set up when there isn’t both in and out I/o
Would integrating a patchbay provide some flexibility in this exact setup, or is it redundant? Same gear, same goal. Looking to connect my ART Pro VLA 2 and ART Voice channel strip. To sculpt vocals thru a chain using analog gear. I have the ART 48 and ART P16 patchbays, 1/4 inch and XLR. Trying to avoid upgrading my apollo twin x interface. I am thinking to integrate my scarlett 6i6 and Mackie Big Knob 3x2 interfaces or just create a secondary workstation. Great vid, I subbed
So I have the same exact setup. Had my Apollo for years but wanted to add inputs so I can keep it all plugged in. Question- do you have the slide switch on the Behringer to slave/adat in OR master/44.1 (or whatever sample rate used)? You say it in this video but just want to make sure I understand correctly.
Behringer has to be master because the Apollo can’t send a sync signal. It no issue as if the Behringer is off Apollo stays as master according to (in my case ) the Mac. When switched on it automatically changes.
Hi Unders, great video. I subscribed. Question for you, I have an Apollo Twin X and I want to add 8 more channels. If I go with a Focusrite Clarett + Octo-pre adat as an example I don't think I get to use the 8 outputs do I. Ideally I want the 8 outputs and retain the control room volume features of the Twin. I'm thinking I would need the 8Pre USB version and call that my master correct? But what of the Twin as control room unit? Thanks! Tod in Vegas :)
If you have an interface with just the one ADAT in you need something like the Scarlett Ocoto Pre Dyn, which has ADAT-to-LINE mode meaning what goes in can be internal routed back out at line level.
Hi! Thanks for a great video. I was planning on getting a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 together with my Apollo Twin X, instead of the Behringer 8200 that you showed in the video. I like the Scarletts Midi in/out and also some of the other features like the metering visualisation etc. My questions: 1. Is the preamp quality of the ADAT-device (ie the Behringer or potentially the Scarlett 18i20) a factor when selecting an ADAT interface for more inputs? I assume yes? 2. Would it be possible to use the Scarlett 18i20 as an ADAT-extension for more inputs, or do you need something like the Behringer 8200 for this? Many thanks in advance! /Marcus
Pre amps totally a factor if its for micing up. If like me you are using direct inputs for synths an samplers. Not so much. You can use other interfaces to extended sure. Just ensure they have the correct configurations. Generally ADAT's are dedicated for just that. But things like the Apollo range from UA can all link together too. Focusrite is the only other company really making dedicated ADAT's too.
Thx alot for the demonstration, I want to ask something because it seems confusing to me I have Apollo Twin USB and audient asp 880, in my case I should set up this preamp as a master and Apollo as slave, and other thing in case of scenario I want to hock my Apollo with patchbay both in and out, so is it possible to to get my preamp In and out for other gears like a composer and EQ? Regads
The 880 is an independent audio interface all by itself. That has both ADAT in an out. So you could expand this more effectively than the twin. You can also still run both together but will have to have both connected to your desktop via separate USB / Thunderbolt.
Select both channels and right click, once selected an option to link the channels into a singular stereo channel should appear, simply select "Link" and you're good to go.
Thanks for the video! I've been trying to expand my apollo with my focusrite pro 40 for some time now and after finally borrowing a computer that allowed me to change the pro 40s settings through mix control, I was able to receive an audio signal on my apollo. However, when recording into protools on my pro 40 input, It sounded robotic and weird. While in mix control I routed all the inputs to Adat and changed the sample rate to match my apollo as well as set the clock to adat on both devices. Any idea why the audio coming from the pro 40 sounds bad?
@@Unders Ok so if I understand this In order to expand the apollo I need to make the pro 40s clock internal and the apollos adat? I would have thought it was the other way around. I guess how do you decide which one is adat and which is internal?
@@Unders Just out of noob curiosity, is there a downgrade in “clock quality” (if that were such a thing) in going from the Apollo being the master to the ada8200 being the master? Thanks for the video. I’m also using an Apollo twin with an ada8200 and your video solved the issue I’ve been having with pops and clicks when recording through adat.
@@pandemic7 Hey glad the issue is sorted, the clicks are ghastly. No downgrade persay, You just need to be a little more observant when setting up sessions etc at the correct bitrate etc. Because its no longer going to automatically adjust when the behringer is on. Because its setting that clock and isnt connected to the computer in anyway. Like if its just the Apollo an you switch a session for 44.1 to 48k the Apollo clicks off and resets. That now cant happen becasue the behringer has no way of getting that information.
So maybe you can Help me with this, I’m looking into a McDSP apb, I have a twin and there’s no clock ports, how would I go about out this or can I not use it with the twin?
Hello, thanks for your time and passion to make these videos!!!. I have an Apollo Twin and a X6 . I am connecting an A/D apogee convertor 2 channels into the X6 ADAT 1@2 inputs. I do see the signal in the console the meter shows activity , I hear the sound fine when sitting in 0db but If I move the fader down no changes in volume, if I go above 0db I do hear a little increase in volume. The MUTE does not do anything . If I press SOLO the volume goes down a bit and only then the MUTE works. Any ideas?, All the other channels including Virtual channels work fine. Luis.
@@delsurmusic Trying right now, But i can't replicate that. The only thing i cant think is if Display is set to post fader. But that wouldn't account for mute not working. Do you see cross talk on the channels as well?
Do you lose quality at all? Is it still seamless? I know the Apollo has no latency because everything is processing directly in the interface, does this still happen before it gets to the computer via this process?
You seem to be confused in that ADAT inputs do not an can not be supported by UAD unison recording. Quality depends on a variety of things, Mic preamps for one thing are a factor. But one that has absolutely no effect on me as i record synths and drum machines. seamless, once all set up, sure.
Hi. Can i ask question? I have apollo twin usb. I am planning to buy behringer adat8200. I understand about their connections. But i don't know about sound quality of them. In my opinion Apollo twin's preamp is better than behringer right? If i am saying wrong i am sorry for that. If i connect behringer by optical to my apollo twin. Will it sound good more clean vocal? Please explain me? Why should i need behringer on my Apollo? Thanks.
Ok you asked like 5 questions. All il say is this, MIDAS pre amps are good. UAD Pre's a really good. If you want more REALLY good spend 4X the amount on a Claret+ or OctoPre With that said unless youre also using top tier mic's and recording in a top tier space. it won't matter. An you can get brilliant results with it.
Hi, thanks for the video. I am struggling trying to expand a SSL12 connecting a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 via ADAT. The SSL360 software, which seems to be the equivalent to the Apollo Console sw, apparently recognizes the eight new inputs, but no bars appear on their meters when using mics. It seems somehow the sound is not reaching the SSL12, but I can't find the reason why. Could you please help me on this? Thanks a bunch.
Hi. Not yet. I figured out how to create an aggregate device through Mac setup pluging both units to the computer via USB, but I still want to use the ADAT connection. I would appreciate if you could help me. Thanks a lot.
@@icm1975 In this set up you can basically ignore the SSL12, keep it in the aggregate as its useful but the scarlet has the better ADAT options by a long shot. Now depending on what ADAT unit you have you need to know if like my behringer it has to be set as the clocking source. If thats the case set the Clock Source of the Audio Interface to ADAT, next set the Sample Rate to either 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. (dip switches on the unit) to what you want or are working at. Once that is done you should be able to see the additional ADAT inputs. if you have two units you need to set up for both to get the 16 channels of input at 44.1 / 48k
@@Unders Hi. I still have not worked this out. My Focusrite unit is the Scarlett 18i20, no switches, just an ADAT input and and ADAT output. So far, I am dong fine by the aggregate device solution in Mac, but I am still curious on how it can be done, like you do with the Behringher, which seems very simple and easy. I hope one day you'll have the chance to try using these same devices to try my case, but I understand it might not be feasible for you. Thanks anyway for trying to help and keep up with the good work of sharing your knowledge.
So I have an Apollo Twin X and just ordered the Echo Fix X3... I want to be able to take advantage of the 4 individual tape head outs... would this solution solve that problem? I'm not sure I understand why/if I would need the optical out that the Apollo Twin does not have. Thanks!
Thank you for this video. Very useful!! 👏 I bought the Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic to use the outputs on my apollo Twin X, but I am not getting any signal from those utputs. I am not even sure I set it up properly. I turned the ADAT to Line on but it still doesn't seem to work. Do I need to do something manually on my Daw or am I missing something? Thanks again!!
Twin X like my "vintage" twin here only has optical in. So can ONLY take inputs. It cant add 8 additional outs. The Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic (I think i dont have one) have ADAT to Line, So there's internal routing to send the extra ins as outputs. How you set that up, I do not know as ive never set up that unit. Feel free to ask focusrite to send me one so i can make a video 😆
@@Unders thanks! I don’t think it’s possible to use those outputs, so might have to return it. Might be a good idea to add in your video you’ve never done this, so that you don’t misguide other people by advising it’s possible to use this outputs… As for the test unit, feel free to ask FocusRite yourself. It’s your channel, I am sure they can send you a test unit!
It’s literally before even 2min in ✌️ As for “never done this” it’s literally my setup. I however don’t own the same equipment as you specifically. Best of luck to you 👋
Hey man, thank you so much for the video number one my first time coming here. I really appreciate you doing that and I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind answering a question for me I’m a drummer and I’ve been recording with one mic and two obviously running with the bass guitar player I’m out of channels. I have the Apollo twin also I don’t think I need outputs as much as I need inputs. I’m just trying to record more microphones simply. Thank you very much. If you have a chance to answer that, I would appreciate your brother to run kick two overheads a base and guitar input. I’m simply trying to record with more microphones. That is all will my Apollo twin and additional eight input like this Behringer you’re using work for me to add more above the kit.? thank you so much
That would do it. Just note with this unit phantom power is either on or off. So not ideal for mixed mic set ups. But that’s what it is for the price point. There’s the Focusrite for more complex routing and options but at 3-4x the price. Still cheaper than getting a new I/O though.
@@craigsweeden1376 I would stick to one or the other yes. Theres people out there who say its fine to run say your sm57 and your 414 with phantom power going to both. I was taught differently and shown specifically how this can have detrimental effects to some mics. An as i mainly use line input synths myself anyways ive never looked at each an every combo to see what's viable.
Not in this scenario no. As I hope I explained you need both ADAT in and out for that kind of signal flow. Unless you spend a lot more on somthing with internal routing.
Cool vid. I’m new to audio. My question is in regards to conversion. Is the master doing all the conversion for both or each their own cause I like the conversion on my Apollo twin X but I have an old interface laying around but not with the best conversion .
i've got a 8 channel mic pre for input expansion. im getting signal to my apollo x via adat. but when i record in protools it only records the step sequencer and not the drum machine and digi synth?
Thanks for this adat overview. I have a question about the UA apollo twin if you don't mind. I am planning to purchase the twin if it can apply it's fx to the incoming adat channels in console software. Can it do that I wonder? Or is the fx processing only for the 3 channels of the twin. Thank you
No on the processing. Unison needs to run through the hardware and light pipe ADAT is just incoming data signal. It’s the same even on the massive I/O units the ADAT can’t be processed in the way in like that.
Hi I’m stuck and you have the same Apollo twin x I have on my Mac and I want that option of using the Adat bi directional so which focusrire model do I need is the Scarlett octopre 8 channel the one or is it the clarett+ octopre 8 as The price is different I really only need an additional 1 out put so if I use the other output on the twin and get the cheap behringer would that work
@@Unders thanks so I’ll just be better getting the same behringer you bought I can record the line inputs from the behringer into the Uad console I just want to then send an out put from the second outs puts 3 and 4 out the twin into my Octatrack that should work ?
Question Please: Would This Method work with my scenario below. * I have an Alesis 24 trk Hard Disc Recorder (HD24-XR model which has the higher end AD/DA convertors) and I was wondering if I can use the Light Pipe outs (24 total outs that are in 3 groups of 8...and 24 total inputs ) to be my interface with my DAW. * I would like to use the TRS balanced audio into the Alesis Hard Disc recorder and then take the light pipe out signal of the Alesis unit and use an audio interface (or use some device) to convert the signal to USB to use my DAW. I would do the reverse on playback so that I can mix old school through an analog console with vintage outboard gear...Hoping.........Thanks in advance... Phil NYC Area
YEAH BE OCH I NEED MORE I/O! Sorry was tracking rap for the last 3 weeks Not one of my genres of choice but pays the bills Anyway Have a Audient asp880 on the way About $1300 US for 10 year old tech but the “if it works don’t fix it” fits here Something nice here is the aes, spdif analog DB25 allows Simultaneous use of eight channels light pipe and DB25 analog ins and outs Onboard patch point switching for outboard gear, Front side switches for both sample rate 44.1-96 and impedance against the pres @ 200-1400-3600ohm respectively of course pads, combo Jacks for inputs, the ability to bypass pres for outboard if you choose the patch point buttons for each channel and front panel jfet DI built in so no radial needed for hi z guitar, bass ect.. Just very versatile box A bit more than I wanted to spend for adat expansion but the converters and preamp quality even compared to the new Apollo pres are worth the price of admission So so much better that the Berhringer 8200 I was running, if your paying for Apollo don’t kill quality with these cheaper solutions I passed on getting another Apollo X rack in favor of this The unison pre UAD plugs are good but the real deal is better In hybrid I use both plus the now available UAD native right in protools I was waiting for Audient to release a Asp900 or 980 but they’re recent offering of the evo makes me think it’s not gonna happen and the asp800 or 880 is a better choice given my experience and personal opinion, good luck!
I am doin a podcast wanting to add channels, i have a apollo twin. I can do that right? I don’t need the 4x? If so what do i add? I know you just explained but i just want clarification before i buy something
the twin will let you add inputs sure, I went with the behringer because I only can benefit from those inputs so anything more fancy like the clarett is wasted - top 4 items here - www.thomann.de/gb/thlpg_lv3lsv64u3.html ADAT interface, Audio interface, Cabling, Data Cabling.
I could see my digi003 Adat inputs in UAD console of Apollo twin . However I can not see the same in Logic Pro x session. I must be missing something ?
I have my connections correct but I’m not hearing sound with Apollo bieng master and Scarlett bieng slave with 6 outputs going into monitors for 5.1 setup
What Apollo and scarlet, because that’s not going to work without ADAT in and out. My twin in the video only has in which is why I make a point of saying you can’t use outputs with only ADAT IN. I’d you’re on Mac you can make an aggregate device. In audio settings and sync the two that way.
I’m kind of doing the opposite. I’m using an Apollo x8p (8 mic pre’s) and a Focusrite (4 mic pre’s) all running into Luna. The Apollo will be the master. Im only concerned about inputs, not outputs. I’m kinda of a dumbass when it comes to connecting this hardware, so bare with me. All I have to do is plug an Adat OUT of my focusrite and IN to my Apollo, right? Is the ADAT cable the only hardware I need? Do I need any TRS cables for anything? Can I use thunderbolt? Great video, people like you keep us gearheads from going insane. Howdy from Texas
Yes. If all you want to do is add the extra inputs. Now I don’t know what focusrite unit it is so make sure it can be used as a slave for ADAT it will be in the manual under the ADAT info. If you’re on Mac you can plug both into thunderbolt and make an aggregate device avoiding the adat set up. They do work very well now days. But at the cost of using multiple ports obviously.
@@Unders I checked. It actually only has an optical input, so it would have to be the master. Is that a problem? I have a Scarlett 18i8 btw. I don’t think I can use both interfaces simultaneously via thunderbolt though
I have a question and maybe you can help. I make hip hop beats and I mostly sample from vinyl and chop up samples. I use a MPC X which has 8 outputs. For my daw to record my beats into is Logic Pro on a m1 Mac Mini. I found someone selling a UAD Apollo twin interface very cheap but I know it only has 2 inputs and I like to take advantage of my 8 outputs on my MPC by separating sounds on different channels. My question is if I buy the Apollo interface and use a Behringer Ultragain ADA 8200 for the extra outputs to record into Logic? Can you explain how that would work? I’m use to using a digital 003 which had 8 inputs but it’s time to upgrade
Twin does not support extra outputs. This allows 8 additional inputs. I use it for MPC, drum maschine, maschine etc etc. but there is no back and forth routing with the twin. It cannot do it. You want to track the out of your MPC. Yes. You want to send them to outboard after tracking. No.
@@Unders So can use the adat from the Apollo twin to Behringer for the extra 8 inputs then thunderbolt to my Mac mini to record my beats into Logic Pro and the Apollo twin as the interface to my Logic. Sorry if this question is stupid but like I said I’m trying to update from an old digi 003
Absolutely not. The MIDAS pre amps are good. The UAD ones are better in my eyes sure. But there’s always something like the claret pre if you wanna spend the extra 600. Me I’m using the line ins so really not fussed.
Can you mix and match A/D devices to an ADAT device that are from different manufactuers? specifically, the presonus devices I've had, do not play well with others? is there something wrong with ASIO, or is ASIO4ALL a better choice so the two devices play well together, or is it a design flaw in ASIO or in Presonus device. I cannot find any answers to this.. All the ADAT videos, do not cover this issue.
Yo sorry you sent this the day i took 2 weeks off. The answer is yes on MAC as you can make aggrigate devices. For windows i do not know i've not used it since 7 came out. Now ASIO 4all has never been my friend either, ive always had better results working with native drivers, M-Audio with my Delta 1010 way back when. And the UAD system as shown is complex but so versitile an solid. As shown totally different brands but it simply doesn't matter.

Ive set Behringer to 48khz and in UAD Console clock to ''ADAT''. I can see now the virtual channels and signals coming through them. When i monitor my instrument, it works fine. Showing signal path on ADAT 1 channel in UAD Console. Issue im having is in Ableton during recording. I've selected 3/4 input channel to record bass guitar cause i can see the signal when i play on 3/4 channel.
Having a patch bay would be completely valid if you have more gear then inputs and want everything always set up. Absolutely.
My questions:
Thanks for this video very helpful for me who was wondering how to not spend $3000+
This is the way, it’s a limited way. But a good solution for a lot of people
Great video. Very insightful. Have you explained anywhere about connections to a rosetta 800 and apollo? Or should I ditch the rosetta?
I also have an ssl big six
Can I use the old Digidesign 003 with an audio interface by going ADAT out from the 003 into an Audient ID14 MKII?
If it supports taking in an ADAT and if one supports working as an ADAT device sure. Ive not got time to look up the spec for each right now.
What is that 2u rack mount your cables are being fed through
"Brush Strip Cable Manager" They're for servers 👍
Thanks for this. It's very helpful.
Some of your ADAT channels look to be paired into stereo in your Console. How do you set that up?
Select both channels and right click, once selected an option to link the channels into a singular stereo channel should appear, simply select "Link" and you're good to go.

@@Unders Very Welcome brother!
Dont forget that one has to be the clock master. If you have an apollo with just the 1 ADAT then your 40s needs to be the master clock.
@@Unders Ok so if I understand this In order to expand the apollo I need to make the pro 40s clock internal and the apollos adat? I would have thought it was the other way around. I guess how do you decide which one is adat and which is internal?
@@ajrmusic91 im like 99% i covered this in the video. In short if the interface does not have both in an out in cant be the clock source.
I just had a quick look, but i dont really know what it is. So id need to read up on how it works. Dont know off the top of my head mate sorry.

Luis.
Are we talking about the UA control interface here?
@@Unders Yes, the software.
@@delsurmusic Trying right now, But i can't replicate that. The only thing i cant think is if Display is set to post fader. But that wouldn't account for mute not working.
Do you see cross talk on the channels as well?
yeah, well explained.
If you want more REALLY good spend 4X the amount on a Claret+ or OctoPre
With that said unless youre also using top tier mic's and recording in a top tier space. it won't matter.
Sorry i get 1000+ comments here a month an i missed this till now. Got it sorted?
Hi.
Thanks!
Truth be told I’m unfamiliar with the unit. But the Apollo twin lacks the ability to sent signal out via ADAT.
thanks!@@Unders
How does this affect the latency of the UAD? Does it at all?
No UAD runs at its same latency.
Might be a good idea to add in your video you’ve never done this, so that you don’t misguide other people by advising it’s possible to use this outputs…
As for the test unit, feel free to ask FocusRite yourself. It’s your channel, I am sure they can send you a test unit!
It’s literally before even 2min in ✌️
As for “never done this” it’s literally my setup.
@@Unders Thanks brother! Meaning either condenser or dynamic mics but not mixed correct? Thanks for your time bro! Take care man!!
Would the Behringer extension work fine if I just wanted to use its line ins/outs to connect outboard analog gear?
Not in this scenario no. As I hope I explained you need both ADAT in and out for that kind of signal flow. Unless you spend a lot more on somthing with internal routing.
Cool vid. I’m new to audio. My question is in regards to conversion. Is the master doing all the conversion for both or each their own cause I like the conversion on my Apollo twin X but I have an old interface laying around but not with the best conversion .
Im not sure i get what your trying to put forward.
You can activate independent 48V in each channel?
With the Behringer? no. Other units sure, just cost 2-3X more.
i've got a 8 channel mic pre for input expansion. im getting signal to my apollo x via adat. but when i record in protools it only records the step sequencer and not the drum machine and digi synth?
does the ADAT inputs added to the UA console have the same zero latency recording as the UA apollo inputs?
Yes. or recording multichannel would be absolute hell.
@@Unders thanks for explanation 👍 I just could not find the answer anywhere and you solved that for me, thanks a mill 😁
Hi I’m stuck and you have the same Apollo twin x I have on my Mac and I want that option of using the Adat bi directional so which focusrire model do I need is the Scarlett octopre 8 channel the one or is it the clarett+ octopre 8 as The price is different I really only need an additional 1 out put so if I use the other output on the twin and get the cheap behringer would that work
as said in the video, the twin cannot do what you want, for signal to go both ways you need 2 ADAT ports.
@@Unders thanks so I’ll just be better getting the same behringer you bought I can record the line inputs from the behringer into the Uad console I just want to then send an out put from the second outs puts 3 and 4 out the twin into my Octatrack that should work ?

I would like to use the TRS balanced audio into the Alesis Hard Disc recorder and then take the light pipe out signal of the Alesis unit and use an audio interface (or use some device) to convert the signal to USB to use my DAW.

About $1300 US for 10 year old tech but the “if it works don’t fix it” fits here
Something nice here is the aes, spdif analog DB25 allows
Simultaneous use of eight channels light pipe and DB25 analog ins and outs
Onboard patch point switching for outboard gear, Front side switches for both sample rate 44.1-96 and impedance against the pres @ 200-1400-3600ohm respectively of course pads, combo Jacks for inputs, the ability to bypass pres for outboard if you choose the patch point buttons for each channel and front panel jfet DI built in so no radial needed for hi z guitar, bass ect..
Just very versatile box
A bit more than I wanted to spend for adat expansion but the converters and preamp quality even compared to the new Apollo pres are worth the price of admission
So so much better that the Berhringer 8200 I was running, if your paying for Apollo don’t kill quality with these cheaper solutions
I passed on getting another Apollo X rack in favor of this
The unison pre UAD plugs are good but the real deal is better

I’m use to using a digital 003 which had 8 inputs but it’s time to upgrade
Twin does not support extra outputs. This allows 8 additional inputs. I use it for MPC, drum maschine, maschine etc etc. but there is no back and forth routing with the twin. It cannot do it.

You want to send them to outboard after tracking. No.

This is great but wouldn't the Behringer downgrade the audio quality due to its preamps?
