Actually, back when Starlin was the only author of Thanos involved stories, his relationship with Death was also Oedipal in nature. The 2013 Thanos origin series was a complete and ill-conceived reboot. It had previously been established by Starlin that Thanos had only seen his mother (Sui-San) ONCE in his entire life, on the day of his birth when she immediately flew into a rage and attempted to murder him. Thanos's father (Mentor) had her confined until she recovered her sanity, but she never did. To protect Thanos from the emotional trauma of having a mother who was clamoring for him to die, he was never allowed to see her or any image of her. Reared without motherly love, Thanos grew up without the ability to show affection or any positive emotion. Thanos was eventually exiled for having made abominable scientific experiments. Thanos soon recruited an army of mercenaries, returned to TItan and bombarded it from space, incidentally killing Sui-San. It was in his exile that Death first made herself visible to him. Beholding her visage, Thanos felt an unfamiliar emotional stirring which he interpreted as "love". Thanos never learned what readers already knew -- that the form Death uses when presenting herself to him, was that of Sui-San. Thus, Thanos's compulsion to serve Death is not that of a suitor pursuing a lover but that of a child seeking the approval of his mother.
Thank you, so many people focus on the 2013 Origin story without realizing his relationship or lack of with his mother, is a major factor in his future relationships with other characters. No, he's completely wrong. In the 70's and 80's it was firmly established by Starlin that Thanos is subconsciously projecting an Oedipal complex onto Death. The visage of her that Thanos beholds is that of his mother, Sui-San. Before his reboot origin series, the canon held that Thanos has only a vestigial memory of his mother's appearance since she was confined to a cell immediately after his birth (but not before trying to strangle the infant).

In the name of Love: Paris started the war in the Iliad, Anakin turned to the dark side of the Force, that King built the Taj Mahal, if you have never had it you can doubt its power but just look at the motivations of the best literature or one of the Seven Wonders Of The World and then dispute its effect. Thanos, as-the ultimate Nihilist, has one of the best stories in comics history.
While I love mcu thanos I actually prefer comic thanos's motivation. It's kinda like a Greek tragedy, a fool who could only find companionship in death and so he will forever cause destruction in futile attempts for her to return the love he feels for her.
Yeah it’s not a big deal that you haven’t. You can’t call a made up comic book character a “simp” anyway because he’s not real. PLUS even if Thanos (who is basically a God) was real to call him a simp is laughable.
the closest I have seen Thanos simping be used interestingly was him taking revenge on Jedah because Death again Thoted him into helping Ultron fuse with Sigma... & then then, it was MvC Infinite
I love how Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite took advantage of this plot, made it so Death actually went after a competent partner for the task of murdering the universe (Jedah Dohma from Darkstalkers), AND STILL PLAYED THANOS LIKE A PUPPET TO DO HER BIDDING. At least in this game, Thanos noticed her tricks and decided to get rid of her in the end
MatAle Albiach you sure can just don’t cram 35+ people that barely do much to the story. I never understood why didnt go the route with Adam warlock. They seemed to set it up
I think it would have been possible to do his obsession with Mistress Death as a motivation well, just difficult, and they quite arguably did the smart thing by not even trying.
The idea and concept of Thanos and Mistress Death in the comics is extremely cool but the execution of it is really silly and watered down sometimes in my opinion. Like Thanos willingly being a non-stop rejected simp, puppet and slave of Mistress Death and then her cheating on him with Deadpool and even his own son Thane and Mistress Death betraying him, treating him badly, leaving him and then enslaving him again and again really makes Thanos look so silly, stupid, childish and watered down despite him also being a menacing supervillain/dark lord who is capable of destroying everything. The relationship between Thanos and Death is like a toxic femdom relationship and sometimes it gets so weird, gross and uncomfortable. I'm really glad that the Disney Marvel, Kevin Fiege, the Russos and the writers of those movies gave us the MCU Thanos who is a bit different from the Comic Thanos on some things including the motivation where the MCU Thanos is a dark savior type of character who wants to save/correct the universe in his own twisted and morbid image. The MCU Thanos is menacing but he also commands respect. I like the Comic Thanos, I definitely do not hate him but the MCU Thanos is definitely better.
This is why I didn't like the reconned origin story. Death says she doesn't need millions dead at his hand, but Rising specifically shows her grooming him to do so. Before Rising, I always concluded that both of them were really separated by each other's need to be the "lead" in the relationship. Death is an eternal being and Thanos is just long lived mortal, so in her eyes, he's the one who should be more subservient just in the way of status. Thanos, on the other hand, always seems to put his power hungry desires "slightly" ahead of his love for Death. It's best seen during the "Quest" story line at the end when he gains the Infinity Gems. He can now do what she wants and more (and he's more than willing to do so), but the fact that he surpassed her makes Death think Thanos only wanted a "love slave." In contrast, Thanos's power hungry attitude blinds him to her actual grievance. He sees nothing wrong with elevating himself to her level (or above it) to give her what she wants. In this case, even him doing what she wanted from him doesn't impress her, because it lowered her status in the relationship. It's a double standard on both of them, so (to me at least) it explains Thanos's frustration better than the Rising story.
You would think someone powerful enough that found out Lady Death’s actions would want to wreak havoc, and make her pay with her existence, causing beyond calculable levels of chaos.
Not only everything Drake said. But his MCU plot makes no sense. He could have made infinite planets, food, blah, blah, blah to solve the same problem.
If a villain's plan is morally correct and logical to the extent that they are actually presented as a good guy, are they even a villain at that point?

In the name of Love: Paris started the war in the Iliad, Anakin turned to the dark side of the Force, that King built the Taj Mahal, if you have never had it you can doubt its power but just look at the motivations of the best literature or one of the Seven Wonders Of The World and then dispute its effect. Thanos, as-the ultimate Nihilist, has one of the best stories in comics history.
I was waiting for someone to make a video about Thanos’ simpitude. Thank you, good sir.
Great Vid drake ..Thanos is the god of simp nation lol
Comic Drake is giving me some "How do you do fellow kids?" vibes.
Thanos thirsty asf
While I love mcu thanos I actually prefer comic thanos's motivation. It's kinda like a Greek tragedy, a fool who could only find companionship in death and so he will forever cause destruction in futile attempts for her to return the love he feels for her.
Can we all agree that death belongs to the streets
When you remember that mistress death was a male that the beyonder turned into death to replace the death he killed.
... so?
Thano:*wipes out half the universe*
Death:SIMP
I’ll admit... I’m 45, lifelong comic reader, action figure collector and video game player... and I’ve never heard of the term “SIMP.” 🤷♂️
Yeah it’s not a big deal that you haven’t. You can’t call a made up comic book character a “simp” anyway because he’s not real. PLUS even if Thanos (who is basically a God) was real to call him a simp is laughable.
Cause you maybe one
death is basically like an onlyfans girl for thanos, basically a golddigger but instead of money, it was the genocide of universes
9:02
Thanos writes his name with planets.
Galactus: "Delicious. Finally, some good fucking food."
the closest I have seen Thanos simping be used interestingly was him taking revenge on Jedah because Death again Thoted him into helping Ultron fuse with Sigma... & then then, it was MvC Infinite
I mean just look at death
This is why I don't like Marvel Death, she is real B. For Christ sake, take a page from DC Death and be neutral.
DC Death > Marvel Death
Yo when old thanos is non-existed, due to young thanos electing to not go down that route, death just shrugs off his death. She a real B.
@@abloodcorpse3318 She also at that point dump him well over 15 times once even blocking him from dying.
Comic Thanos is insane, he is not meant to be relatable, i prefer him to mcu
YOU AINT NEVER LIE
Imagine if darkseid were simp too and loved death of the endless
Well Darkseid did simp for Wonder Woman once
The only necessary video on youtube
I love how Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite took advantage of this plot, made it so Death actually went after a competent partner for the task of murdering the universe (Jedah Dohma from Darkstalkers), AND STILL PLAYED THANOS LIKE A PUPPET TO DO HER BIDDING.
At least in this game, Thanos noticed her tricks and decided to get rid of her in the end
Death really a Grip Reaper. That grip got Thanos going wild
Darkseid laughs at Thanos.
Imo it would’ve been way better to introduce death and the real reason why he wanted to do the snap. Then show cosmic entities
You can't expand the universe so big in only one movie. Too much is too much
MatAle Albiach you sure can just don’t cram 35+ people that barely do much to the story. I never understood why didnt go the route with Adam warlock. They seemed to set it up
I think it would have been possible to do his obsession with Mistress Death as a motivation well, just difficult, and they quite arguably did the smart thing by not even trying.
Damn, I saw this idea on Twitter a few weeks ago, now you talking about it just gives it more validity, Thanos is the ultimate simp
I like the Comic Thanos, I definitely do not hate him but the MCU Thanos is definitely better.
i'm glad that the russo brothers changed his motivation in the movies.
Is going from a simp to a moron really any better?
@@alexturlais8558 Yeah, but his thinking makes sense
@wanka wanka because that's not how overpopulation works. You can't solve it by killing a bunch of people
@@Kdot6_16 it makes no sense. At best, it'll work for 40 years. At worse, it'll make things worse.
True
You don't mess with Death, doing that gets you on the Living Tribunal's bad side
That's horrible, it's a self contained tragedy.
Thanos is a walking metaphor.
Not only everything Drake said. But his MCU plot makes no sense. He could have made infinite planets, food, blah, blah, blah to solve the same problem.
If a villain's plan is morally correct and logical to the extent that they are actually presented as a good guy, are they even a villain at that point?
@@EnclaveHater07 lol which is exactly why they didn't do it that way. Hollywood isn't big on sympathetic villains
Thanos: the virgin simp
Deadpool: the mega chad
Great video as always, hope things get easier on youtube.
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!!!!!
MGTOW Thanos could make Death feel attention-starved.
Simpvengers: E-Girl Donations
Someone needs to make fanart of this.
And this is why Darkseid is still the best, he would not take Death's crap for a minute.
Thanos slew all of his children? Messed up. Then again Ego did the same in MCU
Not the newest Thanos. He defeats thane and lady death finally says she'll accept him now. He smacks her hand away and denys her.
That was cool dude, thanks.
The tittle is everything.
I mean you’re not wrong Drake
