- Here's just the simple truth: Schools should not be sexualizing our elementary children beyond the reach of their parents. For those of you who are still sorting it out, this is not about banning books. That is a false, deceptive, manipulative statement. This is about age-appropriate opportunities. Why would we expose them to sexually explicit material apart from parental involvement?

A counselor told the mother of my best friend in high school that he was gay. When he came from school that day, all of his belongings from his bedroom were on the front lawn and he was locked out of the house. He had to walk to the closest gas station to call MY mom, crying. He stayed at my house for a week until we made sure he was safe. Because he was not safe from his parents. He no longer has a relationship with any of his family.
So yes, it is about the students safety and privacy. And yes, stop speaking about God and Bible - that's how they tortured my best friend.
Not everyone is "good Christian." You don't know what they will do. But you have been asked to protect children, and you said No.
In other circumstances, not telling parents about this life changing situation can lead to unsafe outcomes as well.

@wren2239 in other circumstances the child could talk to their parents from the get go, without it turning into a dangerous homelife. So, please elaborate how a situation would form, that would put teachers in a position to lie about that to parents?

Honestly if parents are that out of touch with their kids . Then not the teacher's responsibility to tell them more than their curriculum. God doesn't belong in school as this American not everyone believes in God and not in the same way. If you became a teacher to teach then teach. Leave this rest behind. It's not yours to deal with.

No wayyy, you have to respect a students wishes, and not reveal information to parents that the student doesnt want revealed, and you aren't able to bring in a religion into a government learning facility and preach it like facts O:

@@deutel Well yea, if that was true there would be some sort of scientific evidence or proof that these events occured other than a single book recounting the events. By that logic the Lord of the rings is real even though there is no evidence of anything in the book, and evidence proving otherwise. An example of evidence that goes against the statement that humans were created to be in gods image is evolution which we have clear evidence for and can be observed in a lab with bacteria colonies, yet a lot of Christians deny evolution even though there is hard scientific evidence.
yes. you should do this to protect your students' identity. religion is taught in the home. religion is personal. it is not something you do in the academic setting.
Our country is losing our values, parents have every right to know what is going on with their children. How can a parent help their children out of home when they are in school if their teacher can communicate to the parents what is going on. Do we not understand that they are trying to control our home’s children and our values. I want to thank you for being strong to speak out and warn us . May God continue giving you strength and courage to be this caring person for your students.
because you people are the type of people who would send your kid to some "reform" camp to try to "cure" them. you people dont deserve to know whats going on in your childrens lives because you are the biggest threat they face.

This world is truly evil and the people behind today's education are even more dark! The parents should be the primary guide for the child while the school is just supposed to teach them what they need to know to survive in that society from an educational in historical standpoint. They need to leave everything else up to the parents who hopefully are believers and will teach their children what God's word and will is for their life. I mean this whole thing with loving who you wanted men with men and women with women it's just plain sick it's a psychosis.
