Ahh. Dynamat. Brings back memories of my early 20's.
Yes it does. Especially at $20 a sheet. And would cut tiny pieces to stretch it out. Lol
No Matter what brand is used...This "Ha-y-N Cowboy" did his research & got what he felt suited him. Clean installs is key for clarity.....Maika'i Kanaka!
ALOHA & MAHALO NUI!!🤙🏽
Mahalos 🤙🏽🤙🏽
It great seeing the OG Silverado getting some love
I admire anyone who does their own work....I admire someone even more when they do my labor for me.
you should have put the dyna-mat on the inside of the bottom part of the door to keep the exterior skin from vibrating.
Yes and cover all the holes.
Should have covered all the large service holes in the doors. Also put the dynamat on the inside door skins. It’s absolutely a must. If you cover the holes you get a much better bass response and much less outside noise.
I wanna do same to mine but these years chevys were notorious for water getting past window seals and would hold water if fully sealed. Plus I do alot of mudding and offroad but think I'm gonna stop doing that and get the ole 87 going again
I gave my 2011 Silverado the same stereo treatment several years ago and it was the best thing I have done to the truck. My head unit has wireless carplay and is fantastic. BTW the word for the screen you were talking about is "capacitive" touch screen. Great video.
Been watching channel for some time now and do enjoy the content. For this video I felt like I should offer some pointers:1. For optimum sound quality, would be best to also apply sound deadening to outer door skin. 2. Instead of electrical tape, order some Tesa tape.
Keep the content coming.
Get a separate amp for ur sub. Not gona get all into it but the 100by 4 is barely enough for ur speakers alone. The sub with it is jus killing it even more.. an always pay attention to rms only to make it less confusing!
Agreed. An underpowered sub will burn out quick. A simple wiring kit & Amp will fix it. Otherwise, awesome build.
Yea with all that dynamat I thought you were going with 2 12s lol. Nonetheless nice build.
The deck actually has a built in amp for a sub also. It’s a one of a kind Sony. Lol but yeah. It’s kinda silly
@@jeremymatwyko6755 if under powering a sub will burn it out then if you drive around with your volume knob at say 10 out of 40, does that mean you will burn your sub out?
Hahahahhaha
If under powering your sub will burn it out, does that mean you have to always run it at full power?
Hahahahahahah
@@bradysimpson Technically, you are correct... driving with no volume won't do anything to the subwoofer. But at any increased volume, it will cause clipping/distortion, eventually causing the sub to fail. Why go through all this work, not install an Amp, and have the sub evntually crap out? Lol
That transition from the song in the truck to the audio in the ending shot was flawless, nice execution, man!
I have always put hushmat. On inside of the door panel on the outside door skin behind the speaker itself and I have always loved the quite ness of my projects I have done
I’m running the same things radio and speakers in my 14 Sierra. Absolutely love it.
That’s the exact Sony head unit I am using and I as well got it from crutch field it works awesome
Crutchfield rocks!
That is my dream setup I’ve always wanted to just go balls to the walls with that sound detonating. Make sure to let us know if it makes the ride any quieter down the road once you get it all put back together! Keep up the precision love watching your videos
Pac audio rp5-gm31 is the correct aftermarket harness you should be using for your model truck when switching to an aftermarket radio. It does all the data communications for the gm lan networks (data communication wires that run through factory radio), has factory accessory for your radio, and retains your door chimes. Highly advise using that harness, especially when doing a clean install like this. Nice work though! Good stuff on finding those accessory wires
Do you have a place to go to find the right harness needed for other cars too?
You have a lot of guts to do a project like that, good on you. The radio could have cut out because of the ten minute shut off for accessory power. I been in love with Tuff Stu forever. Your kids are cute as can be.
Thanks for watching! Good point on the shut off.
Hey there! Just a pointer for you in the future or your subs, but for an extra $20 bucks Crutchfeild will make a plug and play wiring harness and it makes everything so much easier and it is 100% worth it, if you sell the truck and want to keep your radio the stock will still hook up.
Thanks for the tip!
I didn’t see if you did, but you should put a piece on the exterior sheet metal. You do not have to cover the whole thing, but a piece right in the center of that door panel will stop a lot of vibration and sound.
Much respect for taking a shot at it on your own! 👌🤘
Now you just need to get rid of those baby trucks and get you a dirtymax!
I was thinking the same, but Cummins,.
Nice build but yea I'd run a separate amp to power that sub. That built in amp is just enough to power your mids. Not the sub you'll notice a big difference running a separate amp
You know.... an interface module would have made life easier.
Any suggestions on where to get the module for this particular head unit
Amazing is what it is Hawaiian, love your channel👍🏽 I'm a Chevy person myself. Keep up keeping up braddah. Nice to come across your channel. Blessings🤙🏽
🤙🏽🤙🏽
15:20, I saw common kings radio and in my head “Yessah”
Mis respetos para este hombre debería tener un taller de instalación de sonidos para autos 👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Love the OG Silverado
Throw a 500 watt- 100 watt amp and a simple 4 gauge-8 gauge wiring kit on it. Your sub will burn out so much quicker as it sits right now.
Also if you wanna get extra, you can throw a amp on your door speakers and make them even sound better
Seeing that smile on your face reminds me of when I put my subs in. Awesome video looking forward to what’s next.
Love watching your vids honesty havnt in a while and just was looking up audio videos and came across it. Somehow always come back tto your channel always good content 👌💪
I have a 2011 extended cab like yours and one thing i really wanna do is take dash out and completely wrap to be like the newer trucks with padded vinyl or w.e it is.
Had that issue with the accessory wire and I used the clock wire on a second gen Tacoma!
Hey bud! Nice job on installing the sound deadening materials! I was watching closely on when you hooked up the amp, I noticed that you didn’t install a fuse from the battery to the amp. Probably should take a look at that….. and installing the correct gauge wire to the amp is also important as well. Crutchfield is an excellent source to help with that. Other than that, nice job!😊🍻👍
Thanks for the tips!
@@LonestarHawaiian whats the name of the paint of ur truck? or did u repaint it?
@@Jabez.21 It's a "Dark Ming Blue Metallic" original OEM paint.
@@LonestarHawaiian lol wow u reply so fast w manz but uh do yk the paint code? i actually have a cateye n im tryna paint it and I really liked the paint from ur truck.
If you install sound damping mat on inside of door with the fast rings for door speakers it will make a dramatic difference.
Next time use an Idata link interface and replace that Sony with a Kenwood, top it off with the proper gm harness kit and it's plug and play once you solder the harness kit to the head unit wires. No need to run extra power wires. Pro tip if you use Kenwood, you don't have to deal with the pesky vss (green wire) if you have DVD. My kids can watch movies while in motion.
Nice work man
That truck deserves better speakers 😥
In my truck I install a set of image dynamics speaker components in the front and coaxials on the rear
Love it
I'll take a look. Thanks for watching and for the recommendation!
Thank you for posting this. I threw a bunch of walmart Sony Guts in mine haha..not bad.
Pretty awesome. One thing you could added was the boom mat. It's basically a foam box for the door speakers helps with mid range bass. I have them paired with my jl audio 6.5 and it's more bass than I thought
Bit late to the party but to find an accessory on power source theirs a blank pin on the bcm distribution block by your left foot under the cover that you can put a spade connector on which is where I ran mine from
Did you connect the yellow wire from the head unit wire harness, straight to the battery with a in line fuse?
Wow Man i like so much your videos and most the positivity you have for every brand new day, So wish you all the best with your HapPy Work.... You are really blessed 🤗
This makes me appreciate the Bose system that came in my 08 a lot more, my friend had that same head unit in his truck and it was great
I have the same bose but one went out and I’m sad about it I don’t know where to get another one.
The Bose system sucks
@@tacos1308 did you try one of the gm parts sites? Or maybe a dealer could get it for you
@@zackbell4045 I’d have to check but l update you
Full leather swap is gonna be sick!
Before you put the seats in .... get rid of the jump seat and build a custom center console? Thank you for the content great job as always
Stoked on this one!!
Nice job but you needed to dynamat behind the speaker (the backside of the actual door skin). You did the outer rigid part, not the part that vibrates. 👍🏻
The acc switch is by the gas pedal .... you can tap the wire there so when you shut the truck off it can stay on until you open the driver door its late and i hope i explain it well enough lol
Love watching your videos my man, to me you’re like the Hawaiian MacGyver because how you figure things out! Aloha.🤙🤙
Going to need to extend to reach it, but i hooked into the powered mirror for my accessory power for my radar detector on my 08 silverado! Goodluck!
What I used to do for carpet when I pulled it all the way out like that, use a pressure washer outside and then let it dry in the sun and it’s brand new
A Hawaiian Texan... I have found my brother in arms
Pac rp5 gm31 is what ya need to retain steering controls. Gives you acc and navigation outputs.
Theres actually an adapter to make aftermarket door speakers fit properly! That's definitely good to know lol. I got 2 self tappers holding mine in rn 😅
You definitely are gonna want a mono amp for that woofer man. There is no filter on the rear speaker outlets from the receiver for one. The frequency response of that woofer is probably only 30-300hz. 2 if you try and turn it up high on the unit to get more output you will definitely distort and possibly blow that woofer. Get a nice 300 watt amp and learn how to gain set the amplifier. Not trying to be a tool, but just want to save you the headache. To run all 4 speakers and a subwoofer off of a single din receiver is asking a lot of the receiver so maybe even a nice 5 channel amp to leave room for expansion.
Thank you for the comment and your knowledge. Super helpful! 🤙🏽
How much matting did you use? Car Play has to be connected via USB right? If so is there a way to run a USB through the back and up through the center console to avoid a wire hanging out the front of the unit?
Love the interior work! Makes me want to redo my 08 LTZ. One question on the radio though, why didn’t you want to wire it up so it stays on for the 10 minutes or so after the key is turned off?
Noone can hear, what you will lisening in the car. I was, few years ago, put in my old Lancia kappa turbo, audio sistem for competition. To much strong and put lots of akustic folies in car. But its nessesery if you want butyfull sound. I have compression sub, Infinity and 10 speakers. In my Chevrolet too, I was put sound system and sub, red line Ground zero,. But... I am one audiofil and like good sound 😁 , so... I am so glad, you are happy!
So happy for you now that it's almost completely done. I bet your super pumped with the final results! Take care and I'm looking forward to the future ZL1 upgrades?
Glad to see you doing some great upgrades,id like to see you dye the headliner black next, it would complete the look I think you are going for...
You had me up until 11:50.....and the Oscar goes to.....
Let me tell you something. I have thought majorly about doing a interior rebuild on my 2011 Silverado. Didn’t know who would be interested or if it would I be a hit and I’m kinda sad I didn’t do it ☹️
Not sure if you can but something I would look into is installing a backup camera. You have it all pulled apart so now would be a good time to do it.
If this sony head unit is capable of running a back up camera I would like to know.
Thanks and awesome videos love your channel!!!
Get rid of those 6.5 kickers and get ds18 red tips for 10$ more but really worth it loud and good sounding speakers
I have the same head unit in my 07 with JL speakers. I found with mine that with high volume it would shutdown. Ran power and ground direct to head unit. Same issue. I found that with the pac31 interface for onstar you have to bypass speakers wires and run them direct to the speakers. The interface can’t handle the power.
Do you still have those morimoto headlights because I would love to buy those off of you. I have an 07 silverado and is in need of a major headlight upgrade
Nice job mate but I didn’t see any sound deadening go in the inner door skins. Cheers 👍🦘
the only annoying thing about hooking the radio up to that power source is that the radio turns on, back off and then finally back on when you go to start your car after accessory mode
If you're in North Texas you should come out to Ennis 5/2/2021 Bluebonnet park for the Bad Boys on The Street Audio show. You'll be able to hear much better audio than kicker.
🤙🏽🤙🏽
Awesome install Braddah Chad. Everything looks great!🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I missed one lol..... Salute, always life motivational.
not a jealous man but that garage! lol
Yooooo, there are new Silverado Headlights available... full led headlights and they resemble the new headlights. Take a look at them!
O lord. I just got to end of video. 🤦♂️ yeah man you shouldn’t do anymore radios. Lol you do great work tearing apart and adding sound deadner but that’s it
You should have done the metal on inside of the door while you had everything off
I watched a few episodes trying to figure out What lift you running? What all came In the lift kit? Thanks!
6 1/2 " components! Dedicated midbass & tweets, your gonna love it my boy!!! kenwood/ Pioneer the better components!
But yeah anything with some power beats the hell out of factory equipment!
Dude freaking sweet 🤙 this is gonna be NICER than the trail boss soon 😂
I have an LS, same as you.
Will be doing the radio upgrade as well.
Been looking at the modern Sony xav-ax7000.
Wish you had the steering wheel controller, wondering if I'm gonna lose that trying to upgrade.
Ha, if your just now putting a stereo on the OG... then yeah think it’s safe to say your not an audio guy. Made me laugh, keep up the great content!
Did you get the iDatalink Maestro Rr to intracellular the radio with the truck. It's highly recommended. Also, ground the parking brake wire from the radio so you can play video anytime.
Look up MTI Acoustic for a custom subwoofer box. I think you'll like it...
I hooked my acc wire to the misc Ignition fuse under the hood but will probably relocate it.
Could you give an update on the head unit? Pros and cons? Thanks
You should try a kenwood head unit
You used an amp kit for the head unit? At bare minimum, you should have used the kit to power a mono block amp for the sub alone. Better would be to add an 4 channel amp for the door speakers alongside the mono amp for the sub to get some good mid-bass to fill out your frequencies.
Your shoud put a rear view camera. They make a tailgate handle with a camera on it so it looks factory..
Very cool
I wish I had your skills. I know tons about car audio. Now if I knew how to do what u do installing everything I would save thousands on paying people to do it.
yessah
Great job.keep up the hard work..
Looks sick my guy!
Just bought a truck 02 Silverado gotta replace the front left speaker so I’m changing both of the fronts ofc but I also wanna change the head unit but idk what to do on a budget
you need a lifted tacoma my brada. awesome cars tho, and great video
It’s been a while I haven’t seen your videos didn’t know you moved to Texas wow !!
There is a separate kit you can buy from Idatalink..if you have factory steering wheel controls. Crutchfield should have offered or recommended a wiring harness that would solve all the wiring problems. I did the stereo in my 13 all alone..
Oh, im also rocking 2 10s with 1500watts in mine, and I like that it's contained in the truck, not heard 2 miles away. Though I am seriously digging the idea of a full dynamat install on the interior🤔
Luv da end of da vid bro da blessed sunset only on da west side my home sweet home🤙🏾
What wiring harness did you use and clip for mounting the radio?
Did you fix the annoying little rattles in the front door panels of your crew cab? my 2021 went right back the dealer
Good luck with the Walmart Kickers, I added them to my Silverado and only lasted 10 months
I put those Ds Kickers on my homies bike.... they hump... it seems like a bit of over kill with the dynamite for such a small system though
Add a reverse camera next !
