@BAIYUE1 cantonese speakers, hokkien speakers, mandarin speakers and hakka speakers are all Han Chinese. All of those languages, and many others, are different dialects, originally coming from middle-old chinese.
Han Chinese do not speak 'one language', even the word 漢語 refers to any of the languages I mentioned, and many more, not only mandarin.

Mandarin is westerner and northerner, Cantonese is southerner, Min is also Southerner, Southerner includes Guang dong , Fujian , and so on, they are Han Chinese that is where my ancester from , u understand? I speak English doesn't mean i'm a White people. Right? How funny are you.

In Xiamen, they might. I am a Malaysian expatriate in Melbourne, when I went to XM, I could understand their Hokkein, in Taipei too. Mainland chinese are so envious of Malay Chinese in that the latter can speak English, Mandarin, Bahasa plus at least 3 other dialets. Are they Malaysian comedians?

@rmx200x It depends on who speaks it and their level of education, age, and native language. Also, language is an ever-changing thing, even the TV news anchor American English spoken in the 50s is different from those spoken now. Yes, it seems HK Cantonese is heading that way, like omitting the "t" sound. My Chinese teacher in HK said I also miss some "t" and "d" sounds, but I am the relatively "better ones" in my generation. I grew up speaking that way and can't help it.

i don't think it's a matter of education. people have the right to choose what they want to speak and it depends on where they are born. in China, Mandarin are set as official language while Cantonese , Hokka and hokkian are all dialects.but of course, in school they are supposed to say& write 买药(mai yao). i guess hongkonger and taiwanese would write traditional chinese 買藥.

in Cantonese, we dont call Cantonese as Canton, we call Cantonese as Yuht Yu, which means the Yue Language, Yue descent are the Cantonese for sure, Hokkien are Min Nan yu. Notice the Yue in 100 BC and the Yue today used in Cantonese writing system, the chinese character is similar.

@fattization I am from HK and I am not laughing at the Cantonese spoken by Malaysians (or anyone). In fact, I think the Malaysian Cantonese sounds really similar to the Cantonese spoken by older generation in HK. I feel it sounds very familiar. HK Cantonese has a lot of English words mix in and merges some of the different vowels; Even nowadays the Guangzhou Cantonese has a lot of mix words of Mandarin (sigh).

If you say 1 ethnic speak 1 language, what if an African or Indonesian speak Mandarin , are they still consider as HAN? u makes no sense.

WRONG. Only the Tanka and Pinghua are true Baiyue descents and were assimilated by Han, they are true Baiyue descent.
Cantonese is an mixture of Han and Baiyue. If you think that the Cantonese are
Baiyue because it has the name Yue, than you Hokkiens are also assimilated Minyue.
