    People laud over Wayne Bennett for his 6 premierships. What people also forget is that 5 of those premierships occurred a long time ago when the Broncos had all of Qld to themselves and a virtual Qld State-of-Orgin team on the field every week. The first Broncos team in 1988 was made up of the cream from the old BRL because the players wanted to be in the elite competition of ARL. Sydney was divided into 9 teams at that time. Granted the St George proved his astute capabilities but put it into perspective.

    Brutus's attack on Julius Caesar on the senate floor was also a "Brutal" sacking of sorts... Frothing senators (Roman equivalent for board members ) assured him of their full support, lured him to the senate,.. and then daggered him from every conceivable perspective.. Parra's metaphorical knifing by comparison was swift and lethal,.. even clinical.. No mop or bucket required...The amazing thing is that Brad had been technically dead since the first of may but no one mentioned a bad smell in the locker room?... Caesar's crime was declaring himself a god based on his many military victories.. Brad's crime was a loss in belief that crept in when his two most decorated generals fell gloriously in battle..., Staying on a year or so too long after the last drop of juice has been squeezed out of the lemon is only human..

    11 years to achieve just one thing... but failed to do so.. It had to stop somewhere... got the Eels close many times,.. The team even climbed the premiership mountain a couple of years a go but couldn't plant the victory flag.. Windows open and you either climb through or watch them close...
    Harsh?.. yes,.. but this is professional sport..
    Brad walks away with a 1.5 million golden handshake for 11 years as head coach without winning a comp.
    He was supported by a club for 11 years and he simply had to find a way to win a Grand Final.... at least once!
    On the other hand Ricky at Canberra has an almost identical record to Brad over a similar period of not winning a comp (last and only premiership back in 2002).. and he gets the keys to Canberra and the saccharin, sycophantic backing of NRL 360 talking heads... That recent episode where they blew smoke up Ricky's tail pipe and declared him Caesar of Canberra for life and beyond scrutiny was simply sickening...
    So maybe winning a comp within 11 years isn't really the criteria for keeping the head coach position at all..

    • @StultifiedGraphics
      @StultifiedGraphics 23 дня назад +6

      Agree but he deserved to finish out the season. at least get his top 2 stars back. He was off contract at the end of this year anyway, literally 2 weeks ago they said his job was safe and they will support him to the end. The Eels board is a joke. This wasn't right.

    • @khanager2814
      @khanager2814 23 дня назад +1

      Maybe it’s because most people who know the game realise how hard it is to win a comp and don’t blame the coach solely for failures. 17 teams in the comp mate, all being square that’s a premiership evert couple of decades.
      The major points you’re not getting are: (1) the coach does not determine the teams success entirely (2) you have to have a better replacement coach in mind. Eels board have sacked a very successful coach with no replacement earmarked and without really considering that with good teams he’s constantly helped them reach finals footy - only a year where they’ve suffered injuries and where their roster is notably weaker have they struggled under Arthur’s tenure.
      Happy to talk about it but as your comment was barely literate I’m sure that won’t be fun. Facts are Eels have done very well under Arthur and hopefully people start blaming the boards as often as the coaches - while the media won’t admit it, it’s very rarely the coaches’ fault.

    I don’t get this whole; ‘Ten years and no premiership’ line.
    There are 17 teams in the NRL. Even supposing that each team won the premiership once, that’s SEVENTEEN YEARS between premierships, not ten!
    Anyone who thinks that it’s reasonable to expect any team to win the premiership at least once in ten years is not thinking it through. Blaming the coach and holding him solely accountable for the team’s performance is just foolishness.
    Sure, great coaches get great results, but not always. Craig Bellamy’s run at Melbourne is sensational, but he would be the first one to say that the team’s successes are not due to him alone.
    How a team is performing depends on so many different things that making one man or woman solely responsible is simply irrational. This action from the board is like what politicians do; take some action to make it look like you’re doing something worthwhile.
    It’s a means of justifying your own position and salary, nothing more.

    How is this a weird thing? Blokes had 10+ years with nothing. Every year our injuries somehow cost us? Clearly something isn’t working at training, we lead most games and lose (by big margins). He kept playing his terrible son game after game when we had young talent waiting. Average as signings (he’d have a say) and doesn’t pick the best team possible week in week out. Sivo needs to go🤦‍♂️ drops our wingers/ centres weekly on a rotated roster 😂😂

    Cleary out, Panthers win, Ponga out, Knights win, SJ out Warriors win, Walsh out Broncos win, theres not excuse to lose that many games without your star player. Losing 5 out of 6, and most of those losses you’re getting pumped, haven’t won a premiership, yeah move on

    They need to get rid of Trent Barret from the coaching team, every team he has been a part of has gone backwards quickly. And bounced back shortly after his departure.

    Seriously? How long did Cleary, Griffin, n Barrett lasted under Gus? I think Gus just wanted the Eels to keep Arthur so the Eels will finish below the Dogs n make him look better. If Gus was the manager at the Eels, Arthur would have been sacked a long time ago for under performance n achievement.

    The problem with having Bennett at your club is the inevitable fall once he decides to leave after 2-3 years. He needs to be your permanent coach otherwise whoever comes after him is going to have a bad time. Just watch, Phins will totally implode in the coming seasons following Bennett's departure. Same decline that happened to Bunnies.

    If I was Parramatta, I would either consider signing as coach, just on one year terms, Jason Demetriou or Michael Cheika. With clauses. Make the eight in the first year, you get another year. Make the top four next year, you get two more years.

    Goose is always perplexed. Only his opinions and views are the accepted by him. It's been that way since ARL folded and became NRL. Wayne Bennet will coach Parramatta.
