My brain: It's about drive, it's about power, we get hungry, we devour
HELL YEAH. WOOF WOOF
@@dicequeenDi🐺⁉️🤨🤨
Savage Worlds brothers/sisters, our time has come! Cyberpunk RED is invited too.
SAVAGE WORLDSSSSSSSSSSSSS
May the algorithm share this video and concept with as many people as possible!
There is solid gold out there and a secondhand market that likely has plenty of game books that have been languishing on a shelf. That's how I got my entire collection of old world of darkness books for about 100 dollars. It started as a fascination with Werewolf and then I had to read them all.
AYYYYYY that's a great deal tbh
As someone who has had trouble getting into TRPG again, this is something I'm definitely looking forward to. Finding a new system, and a new way to create characters, stories, memories is certainly something that I'd like
Love the videos, keep it up, Di
Thats part of it too! I hope to bring that feeling to everyone. Remember! #PostDnD
D&D has a lot of shortcomings. Just a lot of "wait a sec. Why does it work like that?" I'm so excited to see what the community brings
There's a WHOLE world out there
I never played it table RPGs, but I understand how important this is. Right now, this is pop culture, OUR pop culture, and we need to protect our culture. Let's go.
We need to stand up to corps. To hasbro.
This is the best thing I've seen to come out of this whole OGL 1.1 situation. Fuck yeah, #postDnD for life!
I believe this is how we all really win here massively, for real. I cant stress the importance of this type of video enough right now. We need to show others the way to their new obsessions with their next favorite game-worlds and systems. The time has come to open doors to other TTRPG's. There will be many that will not know where to start, hence why this video series you plan to make is absolutely essential right now.
Much like 4e->pathfinder, this schism will cause untold GROWTH in the industry
My excitant is MAXIMUM for this series. I cant wait to see more games that are not attached to the identity of D&D
i think i'll also be doing a series called Quickstart to get people going with new games. #PostDnD is a bit more about theory and direction, but in the same wheelhouse
Looking forward to more! A lot of your takes have been a breath of fresh air. If one good thing came out of this WotC debacle, its finding new TTRPG youtubers I never knew existed!
that ; - ; really means a lot. thank you so much. "a breath of fresh air". i'm definitely going to carry that.
You crack me up. I'm loving this new style. I also appreciate the leadership you're showing. It wasn't long ago you were just a fangurl like the rest of us.
I'm still a fan girl at heart! I'm just trying to do bettee
You have made a great series of videos in the past couple of weeks - because you have so much passion.
It's all I got fam
Idea: if you still want fantasy, look into the OSR. Labyrinth Lord, Old School Essentials, Swords & Wizardry, OSRIC. The retro-clones are all worth playing.
I getchu. Not much of an osr person but I vibe with playing a Blue Mage in lablord
I never comment except that Di literally called out the call to action. So I have to speak my piece and support her on the algorithm.
We can totally find new worlds. Heck 5e isn't even its own world - all the supplementals take place in the Forgotten Realms (TM?).
And my favorite stories - my self-taught shaman and my surprise (adoptive) parent paladin weren't even WotC!
We can totally find different stories, systems, and support with each other.
Call to actions are stupid but are (1) effective and (2) necessary to play with the algorithm. Especially when you're small-time like me
Thank you. I've Known for a long time that this needed to be made, but I've never had the skill. I actually made my own complete system and copywrote it, but didn't have the skill to market or edit it.
i dont think i have the skill myself either, but if i have a platform i gotta use it, y'know? ; w ; if all i can do is gather ppl up, i'll do that much
@@dicequeenDi half of skill is doing the work, and that part is a lot harder alone. You've gone a long way to bring challenging concepts to a community that's only now ready to think about them. Your loved ones should be proud of you.
I like your energy about this.
I suspect your recommendations won't be to my taste, but I"m not a D&D guy to begin with... so it will be an interesting listen.
who knows? my taste is pretty all over the place. try me xD
my top 5 atm
1. savage worlds
2. icrpg
3. troubleshooters
4. fabula ultimate
5. 10 candles
This is some good stuff.
If you want a good idea of what the landscape will look like Post D&D, take a look at how things were in the late 90's, when TSR was grinding itself down (before WotC bought them) and then look at things when 4e hit the shelves.
While Paizo was, effectively, an alt-D&D that lots of people went to, there was still a veritable explosion in other games and game systems. Hollow Earth Expedition, Savage Worlds, Ubiquity and others all sprung onto the scene when WotC was in the process of getting buried. And it wasn't just new games either, RIFTS and Hero both got a shot in the arm, prompting a sort of rebirth of those games/systems as well.
My point is that we are looking kind of towards the same thing in this Post D&D world. While it will be different, it's not entirely uncharted territory and there's PLENTY of room for all sorts of publishers and games to grow.
With this in mind, I'm glad that you continue to be a voice of encouragement. Even if we don't agree entirely on things, I'm still very appreciative of your efforts; you're doing far more than this old grognard could ^_^
i'm VERY excited to see where it's all going to grow. i'm just trying to gather all the lost strands and hopefully help to make the community more secure and out of hasbro's hands ; - ;
I will never be prepared for jank, but I can pretend to be.
My life is Jank
This looks fun. The channel "Wintry D&D" (soon just Wintry) is doing something similar. That already led me to Ryuutama which just looks adorable. Now I want to go on a journey that is also a story being told to a dragon.
oh that's amazing! i'm glad to hear other people are looking into this too! i'll give em a msg and see if they'd like some help on the journey
"most of them are star wars" shout out to the fantasy flight star wars games. It has narrative dice and a high ceiling for system mastery without needing to get too into the weeds to make a good character
LMAO. most of em are star wars. but there's... not-wars xD they exists. shame about ffg tho

D6 with tarot cards just brought dead lands back to my memory crazy game loved it
YEAHHHHHHH DEADLANDSSSS. Good taste
@@dicequeenDi I have yet to play an OG version of Deadlands. I did play a bit of the Savage Worlds version, which isn't bad by any means... but the game mechanic that is Savage Worlds just doesn't suit the sort of atmosphere that is Deadlands.
I'm thankful for this series because of my relationship with my GM. She actually really hates being in the player seat and likes the freedom and creativity being a GM gives to her. Yea we've been using the D20 System Rules for about 2 years, however we've kind of morphed it into our own homebrew ruleset by now.
I want a new system that used the same dice (or more wacky shit to roll honestly. Although the Dice on Tarot Card Ideas is brilliant). The GM loves Homebrew and any ideas I can feed her the easier it will be to convert our game over time.
ay! glad for her! someone that LOVES gming more than playing is hard but i often feel the same way
True that the change is usually DMing yourself first. My friend disliked 5e so much he ran Unisystem for our group.
yup. you gotta be the GM you wanna see in others
I’ve been following the channel for just a few days, and I’m absolutely glad I found this channel. You’re doing a great job. Keep it up.
; v ; thanks! i'm going to do my best and i hope you stick around~
I'm living for this series, love your videos
Hopefully this series will help push everyone outta this box
Keep it up Di! (as someone who had not horse in the D&D race, but loves her small -ish systems.. I can recommend some, and I highly encourage people to
1) look at thstories they want to tell
2) Find a system which fits that (or try a lot)
3) Have fun1
For a small game I like in particular, Spell RPG uses scrabble tiles to cast magic!
My first suggestion to new games: Black Void. A quotes "esoteric" RPG with a healthy dose of cos.ic horror about mankind in ancient Sumeria getting sucked into a cosmic butthole of the infinity of chaos of the other side of the veil (hence black void) and getting scattered to the four winds. First, Sumeria and middle eastern influence is great. Let's all get out of the swords and sorcery European bubble of fantasy. Second it goes for a d12 system with negative modifiers so the math is less dramatic. Nobody has way to many hit points it is toned down on the min-maxing. Three, a nifty point based system where you just spend on the abilities you want on your character without getting pigeonholed into a mmo party role. I have played both rich kid with to much money and actual monster scorpion half breed. The class system is what you want not how the game wants you to play. Plenty of great games but this is one of my favorites.
I run a game inspired by House of Dragon on HBO. I use Lavender Hack + Barrow Keep Den of Spies + Keep on the Borderlands. Just had to add some dragon parking onto the castle. As long as the dragons are not to big.
holy shit great taste!
@@dicequeenDi thanks
TINY DUNGEON is great for rules lite, FORBIDDEN LANDS and THE ONE RING, and probably anything by Free League Publishing right now
Free League is a powerhouse of just releasing games. Last year I got like... 7 of their products in the mail??
Have you looked at Stars Without Number? It's an OSR-compatible sci-fi RPG and the core rulebook is free.
I personally love using Stars Without Numbers hp system whenever I'm forced to run dnd

Most of the systems I've played have been outside DnD (Vampire, GURPS, AFMBE, BESM, etc) but I'm always down to find new systems to play around with, so rock on.
Oh, and as a recommendation, my personal favorite system that I rarely got to play was the OG Deadlands (the "Reloaded" version uses the Savage Worlds ruleset so it doesn't feel the same IMO)
AAYOOOOOOOOOOOOO deadlands! also the rest is just great taste. i'm really glad to see people out of the box
Looking forward to checking out #PostDnD. Love your channel so glad to have found your content.

Great intro to the series, I can’t wait!

Good job on this I sent an RT on this!

Well I'm on board! There's a game I played a few years back called Overlight that might be something to explore! Ngl though, I'm in the middle of GMing 2 Pathfinder games xD at least it's not the game that shall not be named xD Vampire the Masquerade might be the next one for us.
overlight is real good but there's not really an existing community for it ; - ; plus the devs dont seem to give any support for it which is rough.
Really looking forward to this
; w ; thank you for always being here
I'm currently in a process of initial playtesting for a game system I'm making. The quick description would be: war gaming with strong role play support in settings of high fantasy that can also vary from low to high technology
ayyyyyyy! sounds good! feel free to post it here
@@dicequeenDi this is the google doc I've been using to work on my system: docs.google.com/document/d/1Y2v3e8Rn1AgNbWEsvORI1SZoBUe57fDdFKQXJHB7FSo/edit?usp=sharing
I'll stick with DnD for the time being. Not because I have any loyalty, I only just got into it this past year. Entire group hadn't ever played a TTRPG before and decided to give it a shot. Bought all the manuals, the 3 extra books, a starter campaign, and picked up a bigger campaign book since the guy gave me a discount as a new player. We've played a total of 2 sessions when this debacle dropped. We decided to use the books I already bought and homebrew the entire rest of the campaign. After we finish Phandelver it'll all be stuff out of my head until the next guy in the group picks up DMing. So long as we can create our own materials without giving Wizards another dime I think we'll have a few years of mileage out of these books before burnout hits and I'll start browsing other genres.
do what you gotta do!
I was afraid this would happen, Hasbro did the same maneuver to the Brony fandom, and I really hate that it played out the same; albeit quicker for sure. I am, however, excited to see how your content will evolve and rise like a phoenix from this. There are hundreds if not thousands of TTRPG out there, hell I think someone made an MLP one. I look forward to what comes after the dungeons have crumbled, and the bones of once might dragons are lain to rest.
fun fact, there's at least THREE my little pony ones, including ponyfinder lmao
@@dicequeenDi I expected nothing less
Funny thing is, I see this video in my Subscriptions list... as I'm working on my own system! That being said, I don't know if someone else has created something like what I'm doing, it is very difficult to avoid accidentally copying ideas, and even then I don't know if this is something I'll want to publish in the long run! But I wanted to try my hand at it and see what my friends think!
You got this!
~~go, go, go, to the polls~~
all-go-rhythm comment.
I don't know where I am going after 5e. I know one group I am in is starting a CoS campaign using 5e rules, and another table I am starting is going to use PF2 rules.
Who knows which ship I will land in. I'll likely still play 5e while finding another system, perhaps SW 2.X
I however am not going to give WoTC any money, nor will I see the D&D movie. D&D as a brand can die, but us as a community will continue to live on. I am optimistic of the TTRPG future as I might be able to form a group arounf Kamigawa, or Tenra Bansho Zero
sword world 2.5 is HIGHLY recommended. you can find that on the reddit!
and yes! LET THE DND MOVIE DIE
Older D&D will live on too.
@@calvanoni5443 this is the truth. OSR will always have a player base
@@dicequeenDi once I am done CoS and playing the begging box I'll likely move onto sword world. I'm not sure which is easier to get into, but building a magic user felt difficult because the rules are so spread out in SW2.0 CR I
I personally am excited to see what rises up and impacts new ideas will have on the TTRPG gamescape since WoTC is no longer seen as the "standard" in the space. Yes, it sucks in the near term, but it's a net positive no matter how you look at it.
In the long term we grow and expand
there's a bunch of channels that feature indie games that I follow and add those games to my steam wishlist. i think there will definitely be a market for people window shopping for a new RPG. i think just a quick sum ups of mechanics will do as GMs will likely want to do the fluff themselves unless the TTRPG is lie a specific scenario.
and maybe outline what players can do with their characters and what they can do with their builds.
Obviously i shouldn't tell you how to make your own videos, these are what i personally be looking for. to me rules are a moveset, and i can flavour functions to be whatever i want.
PostDnD will be focused more on community direction and theory, while another series like Quickstart will be for actually learning how to play.
@@dicequeenDi ah okay! Both of those sound good to me
There are a whole lot of systems out there if there are a lot of good games that I am hoping would get more players because DND has honestly taken over most of the industry ever since 5e came out. If I remember 50% of the industry purchases come from Wotc which is insane.
In regards to outside of tabletop that's not dnd
Off the top of my head stuff like Lancer (Art by the person who did kill six billion demons) Scion 2e, Fabula Ultima (Especially if your looking for something like FF14) maybe Soulbound or exalted?
Fabula Ultima is GOD. legit one of the best rpgs of the last 2 years
thank you for this, found you a few days ago as well, can't wait for this series! :D
I can't wait to give it to yall!
I'm excited for this series! The past few years I've been trying a lot of smaller/fan games and I'm excited to see some more games to try out!
Games I've been playing in case you're interested in hearing: Pokemon Tabletop United, Mutants and Masterminds 3e, Fight! 2e, Dragon ball Universe Tabletop, and some other small ones
How is Dragonball Universe?
I haven't heard of a good DB TTRPG
ngl PTU is a bit too much. part of its problem is that it tries to perfectly replicate the video games and makes calculation a butt.
personally? I suggest Pokerole. it attempts to simulate the anime over the actual games
@@dicequeenDi Honestly I completely agree, my friends and I use an automated google sheet which makes the calculation way easier to manage. We've been looking to move away (they confirmed they're no longer updating the game) so I'm gonna look into Pokerole, thanks for the suggestion!
@@priestesslucy As a system it's pretty fun to use. The entire system is on their website which makes it really accessible. It's extremely crunchy so it takes some time to get used to (highly highly recommend using the automated sheet, makes learning way simpler).
It gets as close as you can to replicating the anime while still being a unique system. I absolutely love the transformation mechanics as they basically made every single transformation in the anime a form you can achieve (it allows for a ton of character customization and progression).
I can't recommend going on the discord though, as the community there tends to be slightly toxic (which probably makes sense given they're dragon ball fans lmao)
Hope this helps!
@@trailmixvids it does help a lot.
As much as I am down for crunch in fantasy and scifi (being a 3.P and Saga Edition kind of gal) for Dragonball I would personally default to Wushu for rule of cool fast and loose play.
Glad to hear there's a solid crunchy system though!
Does it play well at all the power scales Pilaf to Buu?
Thank you for this series! Hotly anticipated :)
Hope you enjoy it!
This sounds really cool, just the knowledge of more ttrpgs existing is nice, been watching overviews/reviews on a lot of random stuff when I went looking for sword world and fabula ultima, I saw some stuff about ninjas, Goblin slayer, Mechs... I saw a lot of random anime stuff... There is so much stuff out there, even if 90% isnt what I am looking for maybe just 1 of those might really click not with me but with my players (of future GMs perhabs I dont want to run it but they do)
Sword World? Fabula Ultima? Now that's some taste. You might also be interested in OVA rpg from Wise Turtle
Can we just recommend systems? I have 2 I want to recommend.
Vampire the masquerade (20th anniversary edition): Very simple system based around being a vampire in the modern day. It only uses d10 and as a bonus if you learn how to play this game you will also know how to play most other white wolf RPGs since they are quite similar.
Warhammer 40k rogue trader (2009): its a d100 system based around you and your friends going planet to planet and winning them over to the empire of man. Not as beginner friendly since there are a lot of small rules to keep track of but once you get over that initial hurdle its quite fun to play.
I've never been much of a vamp kid. I blame all the groups I've joined being a lil more extra that I'm accustomed to xD
I love how quirky your character is
; w ; I try so hard to be normal only to fail
Hype meter at full.
I'm sure you've got a list, but did you have anywhere you wanted further suggestions for systems for later when the well runs shallow? Sounds like that might be more for the other quick start series you've talked about though.
Ngl. I'll be honest, my well of trpgs is hundreds long. I'll be fine unless I shit out like 1 a day
I'm just waiting for the BESM Vtuber game to be released upon the world
Wait what. Is Guardian guy making it or you?
If you want a cool and weird one with cards, keep an eye out for next time Through The Breach goes on sale or up on Bundle of Holding or what-have-you. No dice, just a deck of poker cards shared between the group (the GM doesn't touch them) and everyone having their own smaller set of cards they can use to replace whatever they flipped off the deck (a gameplay mechanic called Cheating Fate).
wait.,... they turned through the breach into a board game??
@@dicequeenDi This happens all the time - you're thinking of INTO The Breach, that mecha video game. THROUGH The Breach is an RPG tie-in to a wargame called Malifaux. Kind of a Steampunk/Victorian Horror/Weird West/Alternate History/Urban Fantasy mash-up.
...
Which I realise makes it sound more chaotic than it is.
Tarot cards eh? Well it does have at least 20 something cards so this does sound feasible. I have been playing Pathfinder for awhile and am open to other systems. Thanks for the video!
hahahaha i'm memeing but... hmmm... tokyo nova /does/ use tarot cards...
Personnaly, I haven't played D&D since about... 5 years. I've played other systems, mainly pathfinder 1st edition (I highly dislike 2nd edition, every characters end up way too similar for my taste because you have to min max a lot to have a chance to survive) Shadowrun (every editions, they all have something really nice and, in term of cyberpunk universe, it is in my opinion the best by far, way better than vyberpunk itself) and Legend of the 5 rings (very different system where most of what you'll do is investigate to discover what happenned either naturaly or not in a crime. Was it an oni who killed that minister or was it just murder, if it was murder, who did it and what clan is she from? Was her clan involved? If so, what will be the conscequences for that whole clan? Very interesting but harder to get into to be fair)
I am SO glad to see videos that are moving away from the whole d20 system.
Let's play GURPS Space, Traveller, and Cyperpunk 2020.
Woah some old flavors there xD not even CYBERPUNK RED like others. Much respect
@@dicequeenDi I watched some videos comparing the two, and I didn't see enough improvement to warrant the switch.

@@dicequeenDi Sure, Red more retro, but retro is good.
There are a ton of fantastic TTRPG's out there, that not only cover the fantasy genre but all other genre! If you need any help finding other games I'd be more than happy to help!
The issue is many people are adverse to change.. This has happened before to GM's who wanted to used different systems, but the players would be like Why I don't wanna learn that.
@@129das Indeed, and thank you for the reply. You have a valid point. I feel that should not be a reason to not offer people the chance to see other TTRPG's. If people want to play D&D, that's perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong with playing what you want. I feel going forward people should think about were there money is going. Maybe instead of buying the WOTC books they should and check out some of the awesome third party content that's out there. If people are open to checking out some of what else the TTRPG landscape has to offer, then we should be welcoming of that. This is an understandably rough time for all those involved. As a community, we should do our best to help each other through this troubled time.
I appreciate the offer!

I'M GETTING THERE. THIS IS THE FIRST IN THE SERIES
Hi Di! I'd like to plug a system that I'm helping beta test, the Story Shaper System! It's goal is to be extremely simple and versatile, using only d10s as dice and minimal flavoring everything. If you'd like, I can post a link to their github here!
Sounds great! feel free to do so! i want my videos to also be a platform to find new games!
A comment for the algorithm.
I'll take it!!
Also I think this is a great opportunity to make some interesting game recommendations, maybe try out some new ones. Into the Odd, or FFG starwars are very easy systems for new people
i dunno if ffg starwars is the _easiest_ intro as the dice are fairly proprietary. and unless i got a 1:1 face chart, it won't be easy for someone online. great reccs tho!

Initial character development, background, and past event development in D&D is boring and lame. D&D characters are flat and boring.
I can say things like it depends on the players and how you do it-- but ultimately that ISNT dnd. That's what we bring into it, not what it gives us. So 100% agreed
@@dicequeenDi I love the old Heroes of Legend supplement by Central Casting. It had tables for rolling up, birth, heritage, culture, origins, childhood events, occupations, hobbies, adult events, personality development, miscellaneous life events, contacts, acquaintances, etc. It seems ironic that TTRPGs are character-driven, but oftentimes spend little to no effort on actual character development. It's just rolling ability scores and then buying armor and a sword. I agree that it would take game developers a lot more time to create all of those initial tables for event/background generation, but the outcome of a well-developed character with a rich background would add so much interest to the character and allow the DM so much more material to use in stories! Instead of ChatGPT, maybe someone will create a CharacterGPT to help out with writing character background stories.
Yo! Not much a commenter, but this is a movement I can get behind. I don't have twitter, so allow me to post my experience as a GM for over a decade playing different systems here. Maybe at least one person finds this useful. The following systems are ones I have tried out so far and really liked
- Cyberpunk 2020 or Red
Made By RTalsorian games, it is a D10 system set in a dystopic cyberpunk future. If you are familiar with the game Cyberpunk 2077, then 2020 is the system it is based on, only jumped ahead in time to 2077. 2020 is old, but still played by fans. Bit dated, bit on the crunchy side, but a classic.
Red is the latest edition of Cyberpunk taking place in 2045, still before the videogame timeline. It is very recent, way more streamlined, and extremely welcoming to new players. Some say in places it has been over simplified, but I've been running/playing it for a while, and it is an absolute blast, highly recommend. Character mortallity can be on the higher side
- Witcher TTRPG
Made by RTalsorian as well, it is the official tabletop ruleset for the game. Based on an earlier iteraton of the same system as 2020/Red, it is a low fantasy/gritty game system. It is faithful to the lore, and can be exciting, the combat is quick, and absolutely deadly. Cons I can think of is the layout of the core rulebook can be a bit confusing at first (PDF version is recommended) And the system, especially the combat is crunchy, but for those who live the videogames/books it is based on or just want to use it for a gritty fantasy in their own setting, I recommend giving it a shot.
One additional note is that my experience regarding Rtalsorians customer service and community management was nothing but positive. They release monthly free(!) dlc for their games, their discord server / subreddits are extremely welcoming and friendly.
- Stars Without Numbers
By Kevin Crawford, i have limited experience with this compared to the previously meantioned, but that experience was positive. a D20 system, that is unaffected by OGL, it is a space RPG with a very fun lore. It is great for anything from Mass Effect to Firefly
- Alien RPG
Playing this for a short while, but so far it is a great space horror game capturing the mood of the first movies
Hope this helps! Currently learning Pathfinder2 to transfer my DnD group first impressions are good, but can't tell you about that until I ran at least a few games
They're really good reccs! And good on picking R Talsorian xD
Careful now, WOTC published several editions of Star Wars RPG but the one you WANT to use is the original RPG from West End Games. I think most of yall should look back, to Pre4thEdition RPGs. V:tM, Call of Cthuhlu, Dead Lands, West End Star Wars, and some new ones like The Expanse. Most don't know about Scared Lands, check that out for sure!
My personal favorite are the star wars ffg ones personally
