When the victim grabbed her shotgun, pulled the trigger and it wasn't loaded- thats one of the saddest moments in all your videos. Her entire body would've just sank when she realised.. the poor poor woman.
The worse thing was also that I believe her husband survived...I'm not positive, but I remember when this guy was loose....he's actually one of the reasons I went into the military...

Right like before I knew about what he did I thought he was a little cute but after finding out what he did I lost all interest in him and discusted.
My mom actually met this guy while she was working the night shift at a hotel. She checked him in. Just thought he was a homeless guy because of how he smelled. She didn't know until later that she had been exceptionally lucky.

I took a psychology class and highschool and we talked about head injuries, and yes! Head injuries can severely affect ones thought process, especially when the part of the brain that is most affected is the frontal lobe. Head injuries are also most severe at a young age, so this makes sense. Personalities can change very quick due to head injuries, for multiple reasons.
Exactly, I don't know why people have such a hard time understanding this. I hope that in the future doctors and scientists will discover a cure for these brain injuries, and not put them in jails. Richard is just another victim, a victim of his circumstances.
Wanna know a fun fact? I went to high school with Richard Ramirez’s niece 🙃. She did a presentation on him too (shared family photos of him), and she also interviewed her uncle in 2010 while he was still on death row.

Rachelle Chacon yeah I think he really looked up to his cousin, kind of the way that I think it was Edmund Kemper III who looked up to that one experience with the magician. The guillotine obviously didn’t cut off the girls head and he mentioned it many times in interviews after he was incarcerated and he cut off the heads of many of his victims.
he didn’t know it was wrong he was a kid & every kid looks up to their older sibling/cousin
diana specially if his head got all dinged up as a kid it could have affected his decision making skills, empathy, learning ability anything.

I was a year old when this happened and the night he was caught was about a mile from the house I still live in. My dad nailed our windows shut and we all slept in the living room together so he could protect us. He was never a gun person and said if he had a gun he wouldn't feel safe, so he cut one of my softball bats in half and nailed a bunch of big nails into the top of the bat, which was something he was much more familiar with. Still gives me the creeps to think about how close this all this was to us.

you’re absolutely right about traumatic brain injuries being related to antisocial behavior! i’m a psychology grad student and we learned in a neuroscience class that injuries to certain areas of the brain can permanently impact reasoning, decision making, impulsivity, aggression, and other aspects that can lead someone to become a criminal.

I watched his series on Netflix and felt physically ill at times listening to his story. His story and the story of the death of Gabriel Fernandez are the only two I’ve listened to that I actually got sick with. Very heavy indeed 😅

@@jessedurnin8135 As many victims that tried to fight back or scare him off, I highly doubt pointing a gun loaded or not would have been enough to scare him off. I’m a working dog trainer who specializes in behavior modification (dogs that aren’t wired right, aggressive etc) and while I’m no human expert it sounds like he had something along the lines of what I would compare to a hyper fixation in my line of work. The subject becomes fixated on the “target” regardless of rhyme or reason and you would be surprised that a lot of normal behaviors go out the window. Freeze fight or flight kicks in and in most of those cases it usually manifests as the “fight” mode sadly.

He left his foot print in so many places!! The detectives are EXTREMELY smart for almost finding him through a shoe!
To elaborate on the shoe point. Every description they got on Richard mentioned he wore all black. SO taking the shoe brand (which wasn't big then) and getting all shoes in that size that were black they got to find out there was ONLY 1 pair that was in that description sent to LA so it was an easy sign if San Francisco media didn't share that info.

My grandfather was a lawyer in la when that happened. He met the night stalker and said that no one scared him, the only person who scared him in his whole life of working with Criminals was the night stalker. You can actually see my grandfather doing paperwork in a documentary about Richard Ramirez

I’ve heard this story before and never heard about James literally a true hero
In my psychology class, we talked a lot about the parts of the brain and brain chemicals. We also talked about things that can alter the brain and how it functions. My teacher liked true crime, so she talked a lot about sociopaths and psychopaths and the differences and even showed brain scans and things. A study was done on murderers with psychopathic tendencies and did brain scans on them and many of them had tumors or brain damage in their frontal lobe, which (if I am remembering right, correct me if I'm wrong) is the part of the brain used for decision making and emotional responses. However, this isn't ALWAYS the case, but some of them are the way they are because of this damage.

As a person who lived in LA in 1985 going through this was a scary time. Ramirez chose the houses he hit by their color. He entered yellow houses. There was some reason he chose yellow houses. I don’t know if they ever stated the reason but those of us who lived in yellow houses were on extra alert. Just thought I would add to that for you.

I crossed paths with him at Algemacs restaurant in Glendale. He sat at the counter and was staring at me. I was squinting at him, when it came to paying, he said. Anytime I see a picture of this monster it takes me right back to 17 year old me in 1985. Everyone was terrified, triple checking locks on windows and doors, trying to figure out if there was a pattern to the houses he chose. This person will forever be linked to nightmares. May he NEVER Rest In Peace.

NayNay H. I was 20 then and those guys were absolute heroes in my book! They actually didn’t know who he was, they were just trying to protect the driver of the car. One of the guys said in an interview that if they had known they had the Night Stalker they would have beat him to death!
