I grew up an hour from this lake & we would always go there as kids. Now it's pretty much dried up. But it's shocking how normal it was to find bodies in this lake. There was so many accidents & people being dumped constantly. Everyone knew/ knows & we just chose to swim in body infested waters. So creepy.
Right,my uncle used to scare us kids when we were little and say that something or someone would come up from the bottom and get us if we didn't listen😂 every time I found out that we were going down there for the weekend on a holiday,I didn't want to ever go because I was scared to get in the water 😂and I also didn't like the ants because I always got bites from them 😂
Totally agree. It is relevant to the study individuals development and should not be ignored just because it was a part of their life before they started committing such awful criminal acts.
Ladies! I can't stress this enough. If you end up at a bar, and have to leave your spot for any reason: 1. Take your drink with you OR 2. Buy a BRAND NEW drink when you get back. Do NOT drink out of a drink left unattended. I don't care if it's full!
Totally. The "introductory tape" was recorded in '93 and he wasn't caught until '99. It would have taken awhile also to put that all together. It's seriously unreal that police never found any bodies.
*Bailey, I commend you for all of the research you do. This one had to be ridiculously hard. Pleeze, don't apologize for using humor to get through the story. I appreciate that humor, met me tell ya!*
It a way to relieve stress from situation. You can't control it. Its like me when I yawn at the doctors office or a funeral. I use it to calm dogs when I groom. When they are nervous they lack their lips and when they yawn I know they are trying to relax from a anxious situation, but it sure make me tired afterwards.
It honestly disgusts me how little the police did. Cynthia literally TOLD them about the bodies in the lake and yet they didn't search it. It's a shame that the women ,who suffered months of harassment and assault then was killed, couldn't rest easy and their bodies wouldn't be recovered.
I love how when she tells these true crimes stories, she makes it sound like she’s gossiping about old friends or something it’s awesome I love it and I love how she adds humour! New to these videos but I can’t stop watching. You’re amazing at what you do girlfriend ✨💛
I wonder if that woman’s husband ever came back to her after finding out she wasn’t lying and that she had actually been drugged and tortured for two days? I can’t imagine how she feels after seeing a video of herself through terrible attacks. The whole situation is horrible. I hope she’s okay today. Also, it HAS to be awful for the families of victims that were never found. They really should drain the lake, even if it is costly.
I'm from New Mexico, and believe it or not, back then, the lake used to be a lot more full than what the pictures were shown, it's even lower than it is from the photos, the water keeps dropping at a huge rate, so eventually the lake is gonna be empty.. so if they were to still be able to identify human remains in the lake, if they find any, then I would be positive it's from the murderers.
Seaturtle Poppy what I’m assuming, not much.. I mean if people were to keep an eye on it, it wouldn’t be as low. We’ve had many droughts and even the Rio Grande river here gets pretty low. The river this year in the summer was really high, but currently it’s pretty low, at least where I live. I just think that what they need to do to resolve this problem is close the dams when it rains and then it’ll fill up a little bit more
Andrea - it seems like a few cases are finally solved when something dries up - usually because a car was found or something. I wonder if people there felt safe dumping bodies in the lake without considering it could dry up in their lifetime.
who is binging ALL Bailey's videos in July 2020? LOL-- AND NOW IN AUGUST! September going strong! OCTOBER, YA'LL!! XOXO NOVEMBER! Just going on and on! And for all those who come after, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday of your Choice! And a BETTER 2021 FOR ALL!
I’ve watched every single MM&M episode except this one until just now. I had heard of this case before and it was so disturbing, I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. I finally felt like I could and Bailey told the story with so much less disgusting detail that I was able to listen to the facts of the case without vomiting and having nightmares. Thanks Bailey!
The fact that they never looked in the lake but allowed the toy box to become a tourist attraction is just chilling. Like they wanted to show off this shed. But not search for bodies. Like what.
it’s much harder to find a body in a lake than other bodies of streaming water. it’s murky, strong undercurrents and there’s a lot of debris already at bottoms of lakes, as well as aquatic scavengers. there are people who drown in lakes all the time and they’re unable to recover their bodies.
So I just googled the size of the lake, it's 40 miles long... 57² miles. It used to be bigger back them too. However, the lake is continually getting smaller so maybe some day...
Marryam Naz It’s silly that people think she’s excusing the killers when she mentions they had a terrible upbringing, she’s being a thorough storyteller. Her videos are always very respectful towards the victims and their suffering. I love that she always takes jabs and trashes the killers, she’s so petty! 😂😂
There's a few documentaries out about him, and one was saying that when she got the keys and unlocked herself, she called 911 only to hang up because she got into the fight. Nothing exciting ever really happens in that town, so after she escaped and the cops got to her, they checked the 911 records and there was a suspicious 911 hang up from his house before they got the call and that's when they went to check the house out after the fact.
I watched this shortly after it came out. I still think about this at least once a week. Terrifying. Thank you for telling this story. Probably one of the biggest cautionary tales ever.
my heart breaks for those women that suffered so much. and it angers me that the police did pretty much nothing and REFUSED to search the lake when cynthia literally told them.
It matters on what machine they have to search, how deep the lake is and if they were to drain it then where is the money coming from to do so, she said it her self the area wasn't great which mean less employment, less money to use for the town. It's easy to point the finger, like it or not there are other elements involved they didn't just "Refuse to search the lake." I hope one day they can search but blaming the police sound ridiculous when you ignore the reality of it.
as a psychology student, i love how you mention the upbringing of the criminals. it gives context and you can really see why he turned to horrible crimes like this. it's called imitation, as a child you're seeing how your parents/people around you are behaving and treating others. so quite naturally, with an abusive upbringing/background he'd be extremely damaged mentally. hence why he turned out this way.
my sis is also studying psychology but she's has this ideal that "you can't blame others for the way you turned out" so that really bothers me- but i really like how you explained it!
I am not a psychologist, but a 35 year follower of true crime and I have come to the conclusion that evil is born. Whilst some depraved torturers and killers did not have an ideal upbringing, others did, yet still killed ie.. Jeffery Dahmer, Ted Bundy, etc. Many people suffer catastrophic abuse and neglect during their childhood, yet are able to come through as stable and compassionate, (empethetic even) productive adults. Nature VS Nurture.
@@staybent9380 I agree with this. If this guy had had a stable and healthy upbringing, I think everything would've definitely happened a bit differently, but it's likely that the part of him that was murderous and sadistic would have always been there. It could've just been set off by something else, and possibly later in life.
@@staybent9380 it's not one or the other it's both, it's not having empathy and the abuse that leads to this. There's also cases where people live normal lives then change after a head Injury, which in that case I'm guessing the brain damage has to do with the part of the brain that deals in emotional regulation.

Back again. I recently moved to Elephant Butte to be a campground host. A lot of the locals like to mention this story. Also the lake as drastically drained ( out of 100% full, its only at 7% as of 2024) Bones were found off the shore (which was under water back in the 90's) So I bet this will come back up again as they actually find more. Also the lake has a whole settlement under it. 2000 people were displaced back when it was being built (1930's I think) Being a native to New Mexico, I can not believe I live here now. It is a very small, tiny, quiet town. The locals love to bring up this story though.
Exactly like there may be victims that have to deal with this their entire lives and people have had lives taken from it, but he gets twenty four years?!
TorCs my hometown, it was incredibly disturbing to hear about all this when it was discovered. I have vague memories of Peggy. But it's a huge lake, it'd be impossible to search, I think at least. We swam there every day as kids. I was friends with "Jean" (Jessie) in 2002-2005ish - She was reserved, kept to herself - hung out with kids half her age (I met her at 16 in Albuquerque). I didn't even connect the dots until a decade when a documentary came on. It's so bazaar. Thanks for covering this story, it crosses my mind a lot.

Knowing their background is 100% part of knowing the psychology behind why they became the person they became.
That is exactly what I was about to say
some people don't watch criminal minds and it shows
I agree 100%.
criminal profiling do include these facts, totally agree.
Totally agree. It is relevant to the study individuals development and should not be ignored just because it was a part of their life before they started committing such awful criminal acts.
Ladies! I can't stress this enough. If you end up at a bar, and have to leave your spot for any reason:
1. Take your drink with you OR
2. Buy a BRAND NEW drink when you get back. Do NOT drink out of a drink left unattended. I don't care if it's full!
They can still spike it while it’s in your hand unfortunately
I hold mine with my palm covering the top of it
Also check for what the barkeeper pours.
And if someone buys a drink for you and brings it to you (not seeing them getting it) don’t drink it
it’s so sad that women have to be worried about leaving their drink unattended. it’s genuinely terrifying.

He *must* have had more victims before the toybox. There's no way he went over 50 years without any other crimes
I mean, yeah. Thats true
he even admits it in the tapes he played to the victims.
Totally. The "introductory tape" was recorded in '93 and he wasn't caught until '99. It would have taken awhile also to put that all together.
It's seriously unreal that police never found any bodies.

I LOVE HOW ORGANIZED YOU TELL THESE STORIES!!!! It’s a gift
Tammy Rodriguez yeah for real
*Bailey, I commend you for all of the research you do. This one had to be ridiculously hard. Pleeze, don't apologize for using humor to get through the story. I appreciate that humor, met me tell ya!*
This one has By Far been the toughest to listen and watch Yeah! I needed some humor😖
Or for her asking for people NOT to send dead bodies…why are you sending pics of dead bodies when recommending cases…insanity!
Me to amen
That's literally what makes it digestible for people.

I was reading this comment while she said it!
Andrea Vaiza - wow ... how many nervous people are keeping an eye on that lake’s water level?
Nope..hasnt changed much...
this makes ted bundy sound like a saint

I still agree with Bailey pace, they could have tried to look
Came to say this
plus the fish in the lake ate every body it came into contact with. according to tbk
So I just googled the size of the lake, it's 40 miles long... 57² miles. It used to be bigger back them too. However, the lake is continually getting smaller so maybe some day...
Cynthia you legend, a true hero :( may she find peace in her next life

Marryam Naz It’s silly that people think she’s excusing the killers when she mentions they had a terrible upbringing, she’s being a thorough storyteller. Her videos are always very respectful towards the victims and their suffering.
I love that she always takes jabs and trashes the killers, she’s so petty! 😂😂
are we gonna ignore the fact that if cindy didn't appear at that moment the police wouldn't have cared about what the girl was telling them?
So did her upbringing! Not just the police but society in itself
@@Jc-uf4ig well when the police are part of the problem, this is the ridiculous part
not "literally"
Its not that they refused. Its too dangerous. Its also incredibly expensive. Dont demonize them for that decision
as a psychology student, i love how you mention the upbringing of the criminals. it gives context and you can really see why he turned to horrible crimes like this. it's called imitation, as a child you're seeing how your parents/people around you are behaving and treating others. so quite naturally, with an abusive upbringing/background he'd be extremely damaged mentally. hence why he turned out this way.
my sis is also studying psychology but she's has this ideal that "you can't blame others for the way you turned out" so that really bothers me- but i really like how you explained it!
There's also cases where people live normal lives then change after a head Injury, which in that case I'm guessing the brain damage has to do with the part of the brain that deals in emotional regulation.
i wonder who started the satanist cult
I feel bad for any child having a bad life, I don’t feel bad for the adult who chose to take it out on others 👍
