Just A Girl I mean, there are several states in the US where the age of consent is 16. You can also legally marry a child of any age with the child’s parents permission in most states in the US. So it’s not like we’re much better than Canada in that department..
Thankfully my 10-year-old is cool with me and her dad going through her phone. We've talked to her about how people can pretend to be who they aren't and try to trick kids. She's very aware and on the lookout for creeps, and before she starts talking with anyone, she has us check to make sure they are who they say they are (i.e. that they're really one of her friends that we know), and she knows that even adults can be fooled sometimes, but that we're less likely to be. On the rare occasion that she talks with someone she doesn't know in person, she lets us know where and to whom, and has it in her own profiles that she's 10 and her parents keep an eye on her account and will call the police if anyone says anything inappropriate. I think that, if parents talk to their kids and don't act like only kids can be fooled, then it's amazing how open kids will be back. She's got friends more secretive with their parents because their parents don't talk so openly with them and who act like only kids make mistakes in judgement.

I thought we were soft on crime in Australia but Canada takes the cake. Here she probably would've had to go to a juvenile correctional facility until she was 18 and been reviewed at the end of that. Then possibly off to adult prison for 10-25 years. The crime was particularity horrific and cruel and the public would've cried out for justice.

My husband grew up in Medicine Hat and I was born there. That crime is incredibly notorious within Alberta and most people I know are not impressed with how lax Jasmine's sentence was.

i lived two blocks from this family's house growing up, the son was a year older than me. i remember the memorial service we had for him & the family at an assembly in school. i still walk past the house when i visit home and can't help but stare at the basement windows that the son's best friend first saw the parents' bodies through. so sad that such a young kid had to be the one to discover the awful scene
she should of gotten more years in jail. she KNEW what she was doing i don’t care how old she is. her record shouldn’t be erased she planned and went through everything. she needs to be reminded what she did. i do agree our country does not do any rehabilitation which we should like other countries but that should be case by case.
We have the YCJA here, she was rehabilitated and changed her name after. A newspaper article a few years ago came out saying that she felt remorse and how she's now a successful, functioning member of society.
That record needs to follow her everywhere she goes. It's a big enough gift to give her rehabilitation and freedom, but erase it? No way. That sends the wrong message to all the other 12 year olds. It's great they took care of her, but she needs to be made an example of what your life will look like if you do something so horrific. She killed her little brother, and that brings her crime to a whole new level, imo.

When I was 16 I was on a cruise and a 20 year old was interested in me and at that time I didn't think anything of it because I thought it was just a four year difference but then I told one of the cruise employees that a 20 year old was interested in me and they told me that's not normal and if anything happens to tell her and now that I'm 22 and looking back on it, I realize how weird that whole dynamic was and honestly that cruise employee was the real mvp for being the one to tell me that it wasn't normal and looking out for me.
My first boyfriend was 20 when I was 16. I was with him for four years... he was nice yet had a lot of issues. I can't believe my parents let me date him!!! When you're 16 you don't think of these things.

When I was 14, i had a guy interested in me that I thought was 18... turned out he lied to me and was actually 21. My cousins boyfriend, at that time, threatened him and i never heard from him again.. thankful that he stepped in when he seen that something was wrong..
I like the idea of rehabilitation vs punishment, especially for child criminals. However, she definitely should have received more time, and should not be allowed to have her crimes erased from record.
She actually went to my university, and another university in my city under an unknown identity. I also heard that profs were speaking about this incident while she was in the classroom and they didn’t know it was her.

I'm fairly new to this channel.....started watching a few months ago. Going back to some older videos. Came across this one.....my mom grew up in Medcine Hat but moved to Calgary. I still have a bunch relatives that live there, including my cousin who was on the police force. Unfortunately he was one of the first officers on the scene. It was the worst thing he had ever seen. He took 6 months off and lots of therapy. He's still a police officer but in a different city now. Thank you Bailey for sharing these stories in such a unique way. I usually watch when I am getting ready as well. So glad I found this channel. Love it!!

I was just starting my emo/goth faze when I was about 12 and I was very dark but this.. THIS I could never imagine doing, maybe had thoughts of SELF harm and depression but never would I do anything to harm others. This girl was twisted.
I feel so bad for the 6 year old that found them dead. He just wanted to play with his friend, and then ends up finding them dead. So brutally, too.

Thankfully my 10-year-old is cool with me and her dad going through her phone. We've talked to her about how people can pretend to be who they aren't and try to trick kids. She's very aware and on the lookout for creeps, and before she starts talking with anyone, she has us check to make sure they are who they say they are (i.e. that they're really one of her friends that we know), and she knows that even adults can be fooled sometimes, but that we're less likely to be. On the rare occasion that she talks with someone she doesn't know in person, she lets us know where and to whom, and has it in her own profiles that she's 10 and her parents keep an eye on her account and will call the police if anyone says anything inappropriate. I think that, if parents talk to their kids and don't act like only kids can be fooled, then it's amazing how open kids will be back. She's got friends more secretive with their parents because their parents don't talk so openly with them and who act like only kids make mistakes in judgement.

I thought we were soft on crime in Australia but Canada takes the cake. Here she probably would've had to go to a juvenile correctional facility until she was 18 and been reviewed at the end of that. Then possibly off to adult prison for 10-25 years. The crime was particularity horrific and cruel and the public would've cried out for justice.

i lived two blocks from this family's house growing up, the son was a year older than me. i remember the memorial service we had for him & the family at an assembly in school. i still walk past the house when i visit home and can't help but stare at the basement windows that the son's best friend first saw the parents' bodies through. so sad that such a young kid had to be the one to discover the awful scene

We have the YCJA here, she was rehabilitated and changed her name after. A newspaper article a few years ago came out saying that she felt remorse and how she's now a successful, functioning member of society.

That record needs to follow her everywhere she goes. It's a big enough gift to give her rehabilitation and freedom, but erase it? No way. That sends the wrong message to all the other 12 year olds. It's great they took care of her, but she needs to be made an example of what your life will look like if you do something so horrific. She killed her little brother, and that brings her crime to a whole new level, imo.

When I was 16 I was on a cruise and a 20 year old was interested in me and at that time I didn't think anything of it because I thought it was just a four year difference but then I told one of the cruise employees that a 20 year old was interested in me and they told me that's not normal and if anything happens to tell her and now that I'm 22 and looking back on it, I realize how weird that whole dynamic was and honestly that cruise employee was the real mvp for being the one to tell me that it wasn't normal and looking out for me.
My first boyfriend was 20 when I was 16. I was with him for four years... he was nice yet had a lot of issues. I can't believe my parents let me date him!!! When you're 16 you don't think of these things.

However, she definitely should have received more time, and should not be allowed to have her crimes erased from record.

I'm fairly new to this channel.....started watching a few months ago. Going back to some older videos. Came across this one.....my mom grew up in Medcine Hat but moved to Calgary. I still have a bunch relatives that live there, including my cousin who was on the police force. Unfortunately he was one of the first officers on the scene.
It was the worst thing he had ever seen. He took 6 months off and lots of therapy. He's still a police officer but in a different city now.
